Cosmetic stuff I'd pay for:
  • Mech paint job. 1$
  • Customized cockpit internals. 1 - 5$ Depending on personal crazy.
  • Hats. I don't care if it falls off while I accelerate. Atlas with leather aviator goggles. 3 - 5$ Milk 'em.
Game stuff I'd pay for:
  • New/Special Mechs. Since everything will be available to everyone anyway - let people pay for a new Mech a month or so before everyone else. 5 - 10$
  • Permanent Lostech weapons/stuff for customization. These things should have high repair costs at the best of times. 2 - 5$ Milk it. We will pay.
  • Maybe, MAYBE I'd pay for fancy components like CASE or MASC. I'm not paying for 'modules' though. 1 - 3$
  • Random consumables. Extra coolant flushes, extra jump jet fuel, stuff like that. Multiples for 1$
  • The usual - XP, C-Bills, Lowered repair costs, Higher salvage rates, Bacon. Keep this cost simple, 1 - 3$ for a period of time.
  • Bacon should give you one free engine hit, hell maybe 0.3s of engine invulnerability from the first critical. 'BACON!' tag.
Meta-game stuff I'd pay for
  • Custom bar/club/hall for organised units. 10 - 50$ Make them design it for you.
  • Fancy Mech bay 1 - 2$
  • Fancy Dropship 1 - 2$
  • Extra Mech storage capacity 1 - 5$
  • Premium content? I'd probably pay for Clan access eventually. It'd be a great way to get dedicated players involved - Honor system, pay to win players should be disappointed.

This game is free-to-play. They've already said that they aren't going to sell anything that gives a player an advantage, and I guess that means mechs and weapons. But these guys have to make money! So let's help them! Tell them what you WOULD buy. Please don't post here what you wouldn't buy here, so this can be an entirely positive thread for the devs to look at.

This is one of the main reasons I play league of legends. The F2P/P2W model is horrible, and adding aesthetic customizations (and even more if you can make them yourself and go crazy about exactly what you want on your Mech) to a completely F2P game, is an excellent business model IMHO.
It's an uncommon business model that players appreciate a lot, and makes it easier to reach a professional competition level.

You want to win? Practice.
You want to stand out of the crowd and make people stare at you Mech (And if you're really good, even gaining some reputation as the "(insert color/design) (Insert model here) of (insert your title here)", I.E.: "The red camo stalker of death")? Pay, and be awesome.

The player made paint designs would be a HUGE asset to give players the feeling of being a true pilot, differentiating themselves from your average cannon fodder.
Who want's to be one more of the bunch? Even with preset paintjobs it could become boring and repetitive as the playerbase grows bigger. If it's reasonable to do it, please, do it.

The other 2, they are good, but (at least to me) they aren't as attractive as your first point.

Would pay for entire mechs (with stock weapons and equipment), hangar space for ones I don't want to sell, extra techs and specialized techs/engineers as well as certain Clan technology. Also would pay to access a complete 'in game' market system where other players could sell/trade owned hardware or salvage.

Would also consider paying for transport to other systems if I can't purchase my own dropship.

I'd pay for "victory dances." That would be both entertaining and practical. I would also pay for rocket launchers to be included. And maybe the ability to mount catapults on the Catapult and fling Bulldogs, Demolishers and Condors at the enemy. Maybe even load up your scouts and deep-strike them into enemy territory.

I wouldn't even look at taunts/dances/etc. Too annoying.

My list:

Custom decals
Custom avatar
Additional character/mech slots
Boosts for salvage and/or C-bill rewards from missions
A private, customizable area in public zones, like a commander's office without having to be a commander.

Victory and taunting animations would be very rad. Gladiator matches would benifit so much from this if they include them. I would pay $2 for my mech to do a little river stomp.

Paint and camoflages in general would be cool. They could have basic functional camos, but the really neat ones can be charged I would pay for having my mech decked out in gold ^^.

Also I remember in city of heroes a long time ago you could fiddle with the colors of your super moves: So why not change the color of your lasers, gauss trail, or missle smoke.

I would like to have some way in seeing what all those would look like before buying them. Some visual in the online store would be fantastic.

Not a good idea changing the colours of the lasers, gauss trail n such. They should be standardised so they can be recognised easily when fired.

I'm a cheap ******* and you'd be hard pressed to get me pay for anything...

But if there's room for Elementals to appear in the game(during the Clan invasion perhaps? Not too familiar with Battletech), I'd be hard pressed not to shell out cash for the opportunity to climb onto mechs and stick a claw into their cockpits.

I'd pay for my unique name of my mech to be visible to other players

So if I decide to call my mech FORUMUSERKILLER (off the top of my head) People would see it.

Otherwise people would just see that it is a Centurion CN9-AL

What I'd pay for:
  • A specific Mech that I covet such as Marauder II
  • Unobtanium Salvaged ComGuard or Clan Tech for sale on the Underground Market
  • A IIC Clan Mech
  • Technologically Advanced Weapons
  • Technologically Advanced Anti-missile System
  • Technologically Advanced Cockpit Control replacement that improves Pilot/Mech performance
  • Technologically Advanced Reactor Core
  • Technologically Advanced Heat Sinks
  • Technologically Advanced Internal Armor
  • Technologically Advanced External Armor
  • Mech customized skins if the skin appealed to me
  • Pilot advanced skills learned from a specialty training program
  • Pilot improved skill of Mech weapons accuracy
  • Pilot improved skill of Mech weapons reload/recharge speed
  • Anti-mech Mines to drop/deploy in defense of avenue of approach
  • Anti-mech Mines to range fire/deploy over an area in defense of avenue of approach
  • MASC system
  • Stealth technology for scout mechs

So you would pay to win then? Everything there gives you a tactical advantage and has been stated that it wont be on the market.

I know we said no pay to win things and that include mechs, but I would pay to be able to pilot my old fav mech Mad Cat and Mad Cat mrk II. I love its design and iconic siluette and it has possibillities for several diffrent loadouts if I remember correclty. But beside that I would pay to be able to costumize the look of the mechs material, from a shiny sportscar feel to a more less light reflecting surface like those used on real military units. For example: A mech that has a camo pattern, but looks like a polished sportscar in the way he reflects light and effects. Bob-head figures that stands in your cockpit would be cool aswell. Both battletech style and IRL figurines.

I currently play World of Tanks, and pay for Premium membership (to gain experience faster and be able to exchange gold for free xp), pay to use premium ammo (special armor piercing shells) and did purchsae a premium tank (at 50$ a piece) once.

So I guess I'd be ready to pay for the same kind of things in MWO.

I play WoT also and in order to form entire companies you have to have a premium membership. I know when a group of us get together I pay for the one day premium so we can all 'tank' together. I'd pay for that.

...The only thing we have to care about, is that they make it fair enough so that paying players don't have too much of an advantage over players playing for free. It's all about balancing it. For sure, people are gonna call us Wallet Warriors (they do in World of Tanks) but I don't give a frack. I don't have my whole day to grind, and I make enough cash to afford premium "pay-to-get" content.

The only people I ever call 'Wallet Warriors' in WoT, are those who buy their way to the top and act like they know how to play the game when they don't have a clue... Get an entire group of them and you're gonna lose no matter what. If you know what you're doing I don't care that you bought you're way to the top and you won't be a wallet warrior in my book.

What would I pay for, personally?

Lostech. Specifically lostech weaponry. I think lostech equipment should be balanced for its rarity and be a "timed" piece of equipment, e.g. you but it and it expires in 1/7/30 days. You chould chalk this up to the fact that lostech is, understandably, "lost" over time as damages are done to them that are beyond technicians knowledge to repair.

You could even do "premium" lostech mechs, that have the benifit of being lostech (whatever that is in this instance) but have correspondingly high repair costs if you get knocked out, forcing you to occasionally pilot a normal mech to keep cash flow consistent.

But that's it, for me. I'll probably pay for the premium cash/xp bonus on occasion, but I don't care much to pay for cosmetic changes or anything like that. I'm also fanatically opposed to anything completely non-canon insofar as premium weapons/mechs. I don't want to see an Awesome with 50% more pod space or something bizarre unless there's a damn good in-game explanation for it, to keep it from shattering immersion.

Edit: oh, and what others have said. I would pay through my nethers for a Warhammer. Though part of me would hope that'd be available for anyone, at this point I'll settle for any reason to include it at all.

Ugh, so many pay2win kiddies in this thread, makes me a sad panda.

I'd pay for a subscription just to keep them out.

I'd also, and am going to, pay for Elite Founders simply because I've been waiting for this game for-freaking-ever, and as long as it stayed true to Battletech I'd continue to pay for it to the bitter end.

As far as an in-game store. Meh, don't really care what you put in it. Just give me a simple method of giving you money on a regular schedule to support the fact you are making a game out of my favorite TT game of all time. Seriously. Subscriptions.

Edit:

I'd love to see the Unseen become available (not as a WinStore purchase) just as much as the next guy, but I highly doubt that's ever happening.

Clan tech is a good idea for cash shop. Ultimately, i dont want it to come down to pay to win, but sought after mechs and sought after tech is really a way to make serious $$$ for PGI.

I don't like the idea of buying clan tech, it will unbalance the game and give people who can afford it too much power.

Depends on what it is but I could see as much 25$ for the right item. Such as limited edition mech that would only sold for limited time..

Access to the replay library.

Possibly a bad idea to have a 'replay library' at all, since it could mean a lot more data being stored by MWOnline.

But I think it's an unnecessary and widely desired extra - The ability to not just check stats but also replays.

Another idea is that more greatly detailed stats, with charts and such, could be made available to premium account holders.

More mech space would top of my list as the game is now and were are my pair of fuzzy dice hanging form the cockpit. A drop ship with place to store stuff so I would not need to keep vendering things or bank. Mailbox that would let me mail to other players with the ability send stuff in the mail like credits.
