agree Tryg as I play BF3 and use vent so I spend money to use it with team members I rarely get to play with and sometimes get team swapped by pesky servers

An in-game voice chat is key, one that allows the option to mute players who like to blast there crappy music or talk **** to fellow lancemates. If theres not an in-game chat it would just be a drag to have to constantly change skype/vent/mumble setting before every match just to have comms. This game is the type that voice comms with teammates is necessary in-order to win, without it youll be running blindly in the wronge direction rendering you useless to the cause. If the game has in-game-voice will it be up and functioning for open beta??

I have used Voice com since THE beginning. Was on the Betas for Shadowfactors Battlefield Communicator, which eventually became BattleCom. And as well.... RogerWilco. Eventually used M$ Gamevoice which from what I hear came about cause Micro$oft bought out Shadowfactors Battlecom Rights. These days it is TS 3. Used Ventrillo etc etc etc....as I am sure many have.

To date, I have yet to see 1 builtintothegame voice com app that was of any decent quality. I`d rather the game devs did what they do well = build the game. Leave the voice com to the 3rd party Experts. TS 3 is an amazing app.

I gotta vote for in game voice.

Some of the vent software and the like is a bit too complex and requires a lot of prep. Having to get to know the team outside of the game with messangers and the like.

I prefer voice like in TF2 where you just press a button and talk and you talk to your team(or if the server has alltalk on, to everyone). What's the typical battle in this game? Four against four? Probably limit it to team talk rather than alltalk (unless there are private servers then give the hsot hte option to turn on alltalk).

It would probably be best to have in game voice, AND also allow the vent and such. This way people who dont' want to have all that extra software or don't know how to use it won't have to, and people who do can.

I hear all you ts/vent users, and agree, they are great program's, but I am currently a pubber, not affiliated with any team, and wish to simply drop into a random match and be able to communicate with my team members easily and simply without having to hunt through channels, find other like minded individuals who aren't total dicks, and act all social and ****. I just want to drop in, and interact with my team, no hassles. Many other pubbers feel the same way as I do, I'm sure, which is why we NEED in game voip. If it doesn't affect ts and vent users, it shouldn't be a problem. Just because you use a certain program doesn't mean we should ALL use it.

I vote IN GAME VOIP!

Ingame voice is a neccesity in a teamplay based game like MWO. Yeah, there are alternatives, but only for premades.Just joining a game means text only for coordinatuon.

Its good to see this topic on the forums.

Voice comms are also a community builder. The simplicity of being able to talk to a person you just randomly dropped with can bring the long term result of meeting your next clan/guild/merc unit member.

Merc units should want integrated voice for this very reason. It's a great way to make you as player known, as well as your unit known in the community. Unit members that are just hanging playing matches lone or small groups (2-4) have better access, and are more accessible to lone pugs and other merc units.

Only played a couple matches and was really bummed out to find that MWO doesn't have in-game voice chat like a lot of the other games I play. Because I really don't like having to use third party voice chat like teamspeak and all that. Takes too long to find players that way.

I've not voted.

Could be either of these, depending on whether I'm playing with a friend or two or solo pugging:

Preferably in-game, but only if it's really well-done.
TS/vent/mumble, whatever me and my buddies/corp set up.

Voice comms would be a huge pain in the arse. Crying 12 year olds, ragers, mic spamming, etc.

Comm jamming is a fantastic concept. Has any game ever had that?

More than one ASCII based real time Battletech MMO game has implemented coms channels for team to team typed messaging with jamming and scrambling and even capability to hack into your enemies coms and "listen in" back in the 1990s.

It's more of a feature suited for a 24 hour scenario than pug combat simulation matches, but it was cool.

While "more secure" 3rd party coms are nice for obvious reasons, unless you have a whole team to drop together on the same TS, then you're likely to be doing your own thing while all the rest of your team tries to figure out the plan by silent osmosis. Is there anything different with a lance or so doing their own thing? Teams only win that are working as teams, and saying "stay together" on team chat before everyone frustratingly runs off in 3 or 4 directions is a recipe likely guaranteed to run many vets off looking for their pew pew entertainment elsewhere.

Can we start with a good ingame voice chat and go from there? Even players without headsets can hear orderly direction unless they are deaf or just don't have any speakers at all.

This is the bane of in-game comms, but is the price I'm willing to pay if I get to have comms in MWO.

Also, on the comments about ECM jamming comms, the idea is interesting, but rendered useless as soon as noticed: many will just switch to Ventrillo, TS3, etc. Crystal clear comms or no comms, in my opinion.

If done correctly, players should be able to mute annoying players just as easily as they can add them as friends.
