Welcome Arch Liche. Please send me a PM with your email, gaming expereince, and expectations from the team.

I won't repeat what I've already stated. When you have a chance please head over to Mektek.net and pick up a copy of the MW4 for free package and TeamSpeak from http://www.teamspeak...?page=downloads. You want the latest client. There is more information to come as I get things organized.

Guys, this is Hanyit. I messed up my pilot name and remade the account. Just posting that everyone should think of Hanyit as me from now on. Look to see the RTG in game!

For Sword and Heart,

Hanyit Greyhame

Edit: And guys, what house is are the Royal Terran Guards affiliated with, if any? Begining to make a sig, and need to know what iconography should be in it

Hey, I'm happy to see the RTG will still be around. I remember you guys from way back in the VnR days. Hopefully we will see another stock mech league form up.

Hey im sort of new to mechwrrior on PC. I started on Mech Assault on the Xbox and wanted to play on PC. Found Mechwarrior 4 merc for free on the PC this year and have been playing around with the game. I feel that i can learn to play better with the right group as my skills are quiet a deal less than perfect. I also live in Australia and was wondering if this is country specific.
Thanks for Reading

Geektron,

Good to meet you. To be honest I was not expecting interest from the other side of the planet. Most of the team is based in the US so any matches or practices we have will most likely be 12 hours out of sync for you. 10pm here may be 10am there. I have to look at the time zone map to be more accurate than that. If we get more international players then this may not be as much of an issue. We'll just have an off hours team with a seperate command structure reporting to the head boss. The thing has me the most worried are the Bandwidth caps I heard about in Australia. Aren't you folks on a strict 128kb bandwidth to the rest of the world? That could cause some serious issues with gameplay in general.

"This office. When I was a cadet I remember standing on the recieving side of the desk taking an earful from the XO about military dicipline and keeping an eye on my Monkey. That was so many years, and Commanders, ago. Time. Time claimed those younger years from me. Time lost on the Battlefield. Time playing pranks on the FNG who was unwise enough to fall asleep in the RecRoom. The same time that ate former Commanders and soldiers alike. Some we praised as mighty warriors as they hung up thier helmets and entered into retirement. The fallen who's remains are anonymously marked by the giant war carcuses that neither side could salvage. Everyone one of them passed through this office. And now its my time to stand on the business side of the desk. All the honor and responsibility of running a unit, reigning in the Monkey, and filling Maxx's beer request are mine to own. Well, no sense on dwelling on the past."

Racer Picks up the intercom and tunes to base wide broadcast, "Now here this. If anyone sees the Monkey please escort him and the beer back to the Rec Room. Officer Maxx, please report to the Rec Room for receipt of refreshments."

Racer switches off the intercom. "Now that I'm XO let's see what Warder was hiding in his Private Stash."

"Hanyit Greyhame saunters into the room: Hey guys, what's up? And why is the monkey swinging from the fridge? Wait...Better question: why is the fridge hanging from the ceiling? Did someone give the monkey sugar again?

"Meh, whatever" he said as he went over to the game console and slotted in a copy of Battlefield: 2000. "I'm beat, anyone want'ta play? And please not the moneky, I want a chance...."

I recieved an email from Orko_One the other day and guess what it contained. His rework of the RTG logo. You can see the image below. Orko, for those of you who do not know, is a member of RTG though he hasn't been around to introduce himself yet. He is a madman in a Hellhound. He is also a fantastic artist. Please post what you think below. This does not need to be the final design. And yes, we can shrink this down for our mechs in MW4. Maybe we could use it for the new game. But I'm guessing that we'll need to pay for the privilage.

Second, we need to come up with a comms system of some kind. The old website is no more. I am not a web aurthor so don't have much of a clue where to start on one. Alternatively we could make a go of Facebook or Google+. The only thing I hate about that is, well, I hate Facebook and the whole volunteer to be monitored by the secret police thing that they have going on. Also, it opens up the possibility of every team member getting into the personal business of every other team member. I do know that trying to conduct business and manage a team from these forums will be challenging at best. Personally I would like to have a functional site. Does anyone have any skills that we can exploit?

Finally, I would like to schedule some MW4 shake down time with everyone. I am aiming for the evening of Saturday Dec 3 at 10pm Eastern Time US. This will give everyone a chance to head over to Mektek and pick up a copy of MW4free and work out the bugs. I do have a TS server up and running that we can all use. Make sure that you download the version 3 of teamspeak for your current OS. I'll pass along the TS connection info through email. I do not want to post the info here on the open servers.

I like the new emblem quite a bit! And good luck on the MW4 games, It is currently impossible for me to access multiplayer, because my router is unable to port forward..... Look forward to us getting more organized in the coming weeks.

@RacerX if you would like, I have some small capability with making websites, mainly Weebly :) Contact me if that would help...

Yea im not to sure about the band width thing but i've played games like modern warfare 2 where i was still getting good scores and having the most ping. But im not sure if that was just random luck or something else. i think that there arnt many auzzie merc groups being formed and its hard to tell when theres no real indication on the location of where they're originated.

I would avoid using a social media site for a unit site. You can google "free guild sites" or something to that effect. That would make for a good stop gap until you guys set up your own domain and hosting again. I was a fan of Dave Waino's (RTG Warder) Suomi Warder stories, so I hope he pops in here. In the mean time, here's a blast from your past: www.rtguard.com.

@Hanyit - If your router does not have Port Forwarding or some similar function then it may have an option called DMZ. Essentially this will open all of the ports for a specific computer. Most routers, even the cheap ones, have some feature to filter nothing at all. When you are done gaming turn off the DMZ or remove your system from the DMZ. I used to have to do this way back when I owned a Linksys router.

@Seth - Yeah, that is a blast from the past. I almost thought that the old site was back online. However, I think some company owns the URL now. I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a "free guild site." Shoot me a few links and I'll check them out.

@Huron - All skill levels are welcome. Being a new means you have 100% room for improvement. :) In the mean time head over to Mektek, download the game, and play through the single player just so you can become familar with how mech combat is different from other FPS games. Also, it will give you a chance to get used to the controls. You may be able to use an Xbox controller however I've never tried. Most of us old folks either do Keyboard/mouse or have a joystick with throttle control and X/Y/Z axis. It's the torso twist that throws folks off for a little bit.

@Geek - I'm open to see how things go. If you've got the best connection then maybe we'll use you as the host. For all we know the new game will be hosted on dedicated servers. If that is the case then game on. :D

@Warder - Yo Warder. If you, Samari, and company are out there lurking please feel free to jump onboard. I would have sent you a personal invite however I no longer have a valid email for you. Orko and I even got you a new ride:

Did some research, did not know about DMZ. Guess thats the only way a MiFi will actually be able to port forward... Thanks for the help RacerX! Look to see you in game soon!
