Well found mate. I was looking for the History and there it is. Alrighty, now we are a proper fighting force once again (have history I mean). LOL

Anyone who is running MW4Free already drop me a note (before the 3rd) and we can un-rust while rumbling in advance.

I am -4 EST and available pretty much any night.

Holy cow jumping over the moon with my dolly Batman there is an actual site here! I should have taken a closer look. I thought it was just a screenshot. I didn't even know that there was a such a thing as an Internet Archive. Excellent find! I think we have quite a bit of material to built our new site from.

OK. Next steps. Let's see what is free at this time. If they won't meet our needs then we can always look at a paid site from Go Daddy or 1&1.

@Seth - you are in charge of compiling a list of Free Hosting sites.

@RacerX

Take a look at guildportal, It has a free function, and I believe is very cheap to unlock all features. As to when I'm free, most nights after 8 PM EST are good.

Looking at archived sites can be fun. I found your old link through the archived VnR site. You can find plenty of free hosting sites if you do a google "free guild sites" search. The downside of these sites is that you'll have to deal with ads unless you want to pay, which defeats the purpose of them. Additionally, you won't have complete control over how they look. But they are easy to setup and are completely functional. If you decide to host your site on godaddy, do a google search for godaddy coupons. I bought some stuff recently and got the domain for $2 and 30% off my hosting. I use godaddy for our site (jadefalconclan.com) and setting up the forums and site is easy through godaddy. In any case, the domain rtguard.com is available (just checked).

That bigger version of the RTG logo looks really good Racer! kudos to the artist.

I do have some bits and pieces archived from before (such as the template for our old signatures, and decals for MW4 mechs), but I need photoshop to access most of the graphics and I haven't installed that on this PC yet so I can't do much with them at the moment - and I'm rebuilding/upgrading this PC soon after new year's so it would make sense to wait for that to be done before installing Photoshop and using up a license.

I do have what I think is a full archive of the old RTG website from somewhere in the 2005-2007 range, I tried to keep a mirror copy on my PC in case the website got hacked or the host died or something. I'm not sure what kind of infrastructure it needs behind it to work, not a whole lot more than a host for the website itself I think; I'm not sure about the messageboard part but I do have multiple backups of the content of the messageboard (which used ikonboard software), the latest being 2nd August 2007.

Unfortunately I can't offer my services in any meaningful way at the moment; I still have the same illness that knocked me out of active duty way back when (that illness being M.E.), but I've recovered a bit and am studying for a degree in Computing part-time via the Open University http://www.open.ac.uk so all my energy is going on my studies right now.

Oh, and a quick thought in my official capacity as Pedant In Chief: it's better if the name is Royal Terra Guard (Terra without an n), since the idea was we guard Terra (the planet) from all threats, within or without. If we use Terran instead then it sounds a bit like we're only guarding people from Terra, or only accept people from Terra into the ranks (which may limit roleplay, if nothing else).

That's great that you kept a copy of your Ikonboard database. While I would suggest against using Ikonboard in the future, you can easily convert the ikonboard database to most free forums out there. Some things will be a bit wonky, but you will at least still be able to read your old messages.

That was my bad and has been rectified. (I was excited at the time.) :)

Welcome Grunt. At this time Earth is under Comstar Juristiction. Looking into my magic sourcebook crystal ball Word of Blake eventually overthrows Comstar seat of power and the resulting are becomes the Chaos March with the Blake Protectorate at it's core. According to our history we stated out as a Comstar unit a few decades from now. So, through some magic, vudu, Star Trek time travel, Hollywood Reboot process we are now in an alternate timeline so similar to the one we just left that nothing appears to have changed except the date.

So for now we can be a shadow force for comstar until the Clans eventually invade. Then we, according to our history, we can become active Comstar until such time that we have a falling out and go about defending Terra any way we see fit. :)

@Cru, you are a friggin Brilliant!

Unit Announcement

Normally the roll of CO would fall to Fang as he was the former CO when the team disbanded a few years back. I did offer him the CO-ship and he politly declined stating that Real Life issues would not allow him to put as much time into the team as he would like. I then extended an invitation to MadMaxx and he accepted. At this time we have only two command positions. This will most likely change as the game gets closer and the unit grows in size.

Please congratulate Max on his long overdue promotion to whatever rank is below mine. :)

@Cru - do you still have the Ranks Chart?

Lots of updates today. So I went looking for free Guild Sites as Seth suggested. I found one that may meet our needs at least in the short term.

Check this out and join up. This being free there are storage limits so please don't share any pictures or attach any signatures to your account or profile. Whatever we have I'm sure it's not much. There is a subscription fee for more stuff such as bandwidth, storage, and the removal of adds. However, since we don't have any finances I think free will do us just fine for now. Besides, for all we know MWOMercs will have its own team hosting service built in. Let me know what you guys think.

I would avoid using a social media site for a unit site. You can google "free guild sites" or something to that effect. That would make for a good stop gap until you guys set up your own domain and hosting again. I was a fan of Dave Waino's (RTG Warder) Suomi Warder stories, so I hope he pops in here. In the mean time, here's a blast from your past: www.rtguard.com.

Hey guys it's Tiger, someone stole my call sign, and btw I have the controller. Will someone keep that damn monkey with his banana away from me. I'm about ready to stuff him in Maxx's cooler. Hehehe Fang I blame you for that crazy monkey, seems he never forgot...

Seth, I sent a message out to Crusader and Warder about this game, but Cru is the only one that jumped on board. I'll try and contact Warder again.

Hey AA guess we won't be going bushwacker crazy again anytime soon, but I'm sure we'll find something or someone to pick on again. Lol

Btw, has anyone heard or now how to get in touch with BA? I was hoping we could take the twins out on a drop again and teach people the meaning of fear. Hehehe

Fang, good to see you bro...guess now you'll be the one doing the training.

I would like to thank RacerX for his vote of confidence and am pleased to able to once again serve the Guard. It has been far to long since the Guard played and fought together. For me not since I retired from the VnR League games. It had become an obsession by then and after extensive Counseling I came to terms with it.

Now that MWO will again offer us Mech wars. BOOYaah Baby! I look forward to some good solid FUN with all who fight with The Royal Terra Guard.

P.S. Now I need to just find my Coolant Vest. :)

I would like to thank Hanyit, Grunt, and Maxx for showing up the other night to help work out some bugs and to stomp some Bot trash. It was a good time. Grunt I found the below link at Mektek. Currently it is the best I can do. It appears that thier Forums are still down. There is also a link in this article about getting an Xbox controller to work with MW4. I always wondered how this game would play with an Xbox controller.

Tiger, welcome back. Go check out the website and register. Everyone who doesn't already have an account on the Guild Site please create one with the [RTG] Prefix. That way we can all maintain our current game names. I'm still working on the Forum and forum permissions. Hopefully I'll get to them tonight some time. Until then this forum will remain our primary communications vehicle.

Hi all. It looks like the new forums are online. I've posted something in the Rec Room. Have at it.

Oh, and you do need to be registered before you can post anything. I have approved all applicants except something called Faith something or other. If you applied for entry but did not get approved please let me know the name. It may be one of the names that I did not recognize.
