For the record, I've only started the process of gathering everyone together and Kiel did a stand up job putting a forum together for us on MekTek and numerous others have really stepped to the plate. If all I do is manage to get all of the Highlanders gathered together in one place and keep them working with (or at least not against) one another, I'll consider my job done. If we can't form up under the Northwind Highlanders banner, I hope we will at least form up multiple units that remain closely allied with one another and stay true to the Highlander name. Highlanders don't fight Highlanders. At least, not at the demands of some Great House.

Actually Highlanders do fight Highlanders, but its always been because of a difference of opinion within the ranks.
And once its over, we forgive and forget, pick the other person up and buy they a pint and laugh about it.

I have no divided loyalties. My loyalty lies with the Highlanders, period. What I won't do is trust one House over another because one is supposedly good and the other evil. Only Highlanders look out for Highlanders. Even if the actions seem forthright, a House that is doing something in our interest is only doing it because it serves some purpose of theirs first.

I'm just going to go ahead and be honest; this thread frustrates me. We already have a recruiting thread here in these very forums, another one is silly and redundant. It also has the added effect of screaming out to the general community the untrue perception that we don't have our crap together. Furthermore, we've already established a place where the Highlanders that have expressed intrest can discuss things like leadership, roles, regiments and any other business the Highlanders might need to discuss. Mostly because of superior user-level options, that place is MekTek.

Any and all discussions about unit organization and planning should be taking place over there, for the closed forum functionality alone. Open forums, like these MWO forums, aren't the best place for logistical planning between a small group of guys competing against everyone in the community that can read those open forums. Just sayin'.

I would like to encourage everyone that is interested in discussing the logistics of the Highlanders to do so over at MekTek or another similar area where discussion can be relatively private.

Plodder, I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm, and I'm not trying to denounce your energetic approach. In fact, I like it and I want to see more of it! I just want to help focus your energies into areas that are needed at the moment.

Ok fine, I wish some would have said somthing sooner. I do wish there was a roll list for all to see, I do not think the recruiting and other stuff should be mixed, we can have as many different threads here as we desire. If any new guys come to this tread, then, they read the 1st post, and get directed to go to the "recruiting post. Many folks will not take the time to go to a meeting at mektek, I will, but many "we want" will not. They will still want to be involved "here" at MWO. I am all for Mektek, but we need a voice here in my opinion, for conversations like this. I would not like this in the recruiting area, would you? I can shut this down, and might if I do not get any feedback. What if I were to say "Following canon ideas for this unit is proposterous!" Or, "If we don't follow cannon!" I think that conversation is good, informitive, even helpfull, but ya see, us mercs, have this as a home, The Mercenary Recruiting area.

On the contrary, that is entirely the point. Anyone not interested in taking the time to register in all the appropriate places and cross all the appropriate "T's" is not really interested in being a Highlander. They may have an interest in playing a mech game with a bunch of dudes, but they most certainly DO NOT want to be a Northwind Highlander. To that point; anyone not prepared to take the measures nessesary to ensure success is not someone I have any particular interest in associating with. In life, or in a game.

That's true in lore, but I also feel that a Northwind Highlander stands proud as a special breed of GAMER. There is definitely room for debate on that topic, but that would all be beside the main point here. The primary point is that almost everything you're asking for has already been established.

So, to be a particular type of soldier, one needs to be one like you say? You cannot be interested in the history, lore, love of the scott's pipes. So to want to be a Northwind Highlander means what? I am not saying that mektek is not a good place for the leadership and all others to concentrate their Highlanders efforts, but to have all their efforts there seem a bit one sided. Are you the leader? Do you have a history of guiding a community through to success? I hope so. I know very little about this sort of thing, but I know people a bit. I think we have an oppertunity to engage a new generation to the Northwind Highlander tradition, first through the recruiting, but then through a seperate place "HERE" on the MWO forum. Yo GO MWO GO GO GO!!! Yeah!!!

Hey plodder, we got more than a 6-way conversation brewing over in the mektek forums. I'd encourage you to take the time and make the effort to sign up there and see what we have accomplished over there. Im not saying that we are the end all and be all of the Northwind Highlanders, but we are trying pretty hard to build something that we think ANY Highlander could be proud of.
