I would imagine it would be a nightmare to put that kind of implementation in, not to mention raise balancing issue's.

Personally, I would love to see it, but I'm not sure if i want the devs to steer off course like that presently.

I´d love to see my Hatchetman.
But i think it would be best if Melee would come with the Clans. Would be a lot of Balancing, but i think it would be worth it.

How? We have other weapons. Melee is also not a scary concept on a pedestal that some make it out to be...it's been in a lot of games.

I personally do not like the idea of melee attacks.

I must admit, the mental image of a Centurion clotheslining some poor Commando into the dirt is just beautiful. So is the image of the same Centurion taking a swing at an Atlas and getting his head handed to him. If they do implement it, I hope that the animations are extremely cumbersome and slow, but when you actually land a hit, somebody ends up in the dirt.

The problem is the mechs. Yes, other mecha games like Armored Core had them, and if they were to implement it in it couldn't be like knifing in other FPS's, otherwise it would just look...gaudy, and wouldn't fit, not to mention we don't need mechs running around killing each other in one hit. Could do it like AC, but I honestly hated the way it was implemented. A royal pain to aim with not to mention when you did hit your weapons just magically went through them and did some damage. I would guess it would be a nightmare to code in the collision if they were to make it realistic, for example a clothes lining Centurion =P

As long as they have the Shadowcat I'll be a happy agressive camper.

I'd have to say no, it's the last thing i want. It would cause the game to move into more of an arcade feeling of gameplay. The exact opposite of what the devs have said about the way they want the game to feel.
However, i think there should be some degree of melee damage. So say if you were to stand toe to toe with another mech, and swing your arms, then i believe physical damage should be done. To both the culprit's limb and victims armour at point of impact, whilst also cause the victim to stagger, or fall if light enough in comparison to the culprit.

why would no one want melee? is int the sight of a hunchie sawing a atlases fat head off good enough for ya?
or think of this, spiking a jenner right up the middle with a spear and then cutting all his limbs off and salvaging him?
or just hitting a mech that fell over with a flail over and over and over?

now wouldn't that be a awesome sight to see a awesome flat on the ground with a big viroblade hole in him!

Give me melee! Ti T'sang - 60 tons - Triple Strength Myomer - Get it hot and it goes as fast as a Jenner.

Has a big axe!

plus - if that commando is right in front of you and is below where you can aim effectively...a single keystroke should be able to kick the ******

removes the unrealistic tactic of light mechs running right up to and underneath the guns of the assault mechs if you can kick effectively.

It sounded like they certainly plan on adding melee somewhere down the line. I'd have to guess it'll stay limited to a few melee-specific weapons (no punches/clotheslines/anything elaborate), plus the crash physics already planned ingame. With that in mind, balancing shouldn't be a terrible issue.

It would be a nice alternative to "bump, oops..BLAM" point-blank fire.

Hatchet/Axe-man for the win!

Other than that, maybe intentional tactical-ramming to topple your opponents to help your teammates get in a few extra hits while they enemy is down.

A punch to the cockpit for mechs with hands, but that may be a bit of literal overkill

Charging is a melee attach that is already part of the core plans for the game.

Beyond that the devs have stated that they would like to implement melee IF they can work it out without too much trouble, but it will not be in at launch.

My suspicion is IF they implement it, they will only add hatchets and give melee weapons their own hardpoint type, and only give it to select mechs that have melee animations made for it, like the hatchetman, axeman etc. . . But I am sure they are not even going to start looking into it until they have the clan stuff all sorted out.

Adding new weapons with their own tonnage, they can just be balanced against all other weapons for the weight. They don't have to worry about the effect of suddenly letting an atlas kick the light mechs that have been pestering them for so long. . .
