I actually didn't mind Victor. The only things I didn't really like about him, aside from the extremely pro-Davion bias of about every BT author, was the whines he had about ruling and the inability to man up and kill his uber-{Dezgra} of a sister. Ugh- hated Katherine Steiner-Davion! Manipulative, treacherous, and just a horrible person- basically Cersi Lannister without the brother lovin'.

Alaric Wolf in the Dark Ages is the vat-kid of Katherine and Victor's genes.

Inces*

You clanners should basically know it better than our IS. Gene-born =/= 6ually born > no inc.est in terms of non-biological birth.
And in the meantime your Kahn Ward has shown Katherine "the way" of the warrior and she him "the way" of diplomacy

:P

Regarding the storytelling. Yeah, the Authors pushed Victor Steiner-Davion more to the Davion but I did not see him as a pure Davion.

said it yourself. We are just worthless, only to be used and once you would be done we would be destroyed (if Japanese culture holds up to its old standards). You know saying that the combine only wants to USE the League does not make me think any better of you.
Not destroyed. Assimilated. The end goal of the Draconis Combine is its manifest destiny of leading the Inner Sphere into a new age of glory with the Coordinator as its First Lord. I am of the opinion that the people of Rasalhague deserve participation in that new era.

How exactly to get there, on the other hand, is a rocky path that must be paved with the Inner Sphere#s political realities in mind, so for the time being independence was quite simply the best solution and should be considered a "win-win" for both sides, no?

It is confusing how you see such a massive difference between being conquered by the Combine as opposed to being conquered by Clan forces, though. In the end, if you see one side as using you, then you should at the very least apply the same reasoning to anyone else occupying Rasalhague territory. There is only sovereignty or servitude, no in-between as you seem to suggest here.

View PostThe Advisor, on 30 August 2014 - 12:39 PM, said:

Um nnoooo it was because the Coordinator RECOGNIZED the Independence.
With the Coordinator being the Rasalhague district's legal ruler, him recognising the region's independence is the same thing as him granting it.

The ronin went into rebellion because they were dissatisfied with the Coordinator's decision to remove Combine forces and families that had lived and served on FRR worlds for generations. The claim that the independence was a result of the FRR's ability to resist the ronin (with help of loyal DCMS units under direct leadership of Kenrai Theodore Kurita) is ludicrous.

About the Ghost Bear thing, everyone in Rasalhague was pretty happy. No complaints here.
Apparently not everyone.

"Unlike most members of the Amaterasu, who can trace MechWarrior heritages back centuries, Danni Haag's ancestor first became a MechWarrior during the Clan invasion of the 3050s. A citizen of the Free Rasalhague Republic, her ancestor was horrified when Clan Wolf, along with Clan Ghost Bear, nearly swallowed her beloved state that only 15 years earlier had gained its independence from the Draconis Combine.

As the years passed, Clan Ghost Bear slowly began to seduce the population of the Free Rasalhague Republic into believing that the best course for freedom and protection lay in joining them. Danni's own ancestors wholly supported the union of the Free Rasalhague Republic and the Ghost Bear Dominion, which eventually led to the formation of the Rasalhague Dominion. However, from her earliest years, Danni was horrified that her people had sold their souls for supposed protection, and joined the small but vocal minority that still seeks to overthrow the Ghost Bears and gain true independence.

Forced to leave the Dominion because of her beliefs, she came to know and admire Katana Tormark, who promised to aid her in the future if she would pledge her loyalty and service to Katana now. She has quickly become one of Katana's most capable and ardent supporters."

Thats one of Billions of people. Round up 0,00% of the FRR population. Further she left the FRR to join Amaterasu which makes her equal to a merc.

It mentions a "small but vocal" resistance movement, which must mean there is more than one person (else there would have been nothing to "join"). I fail to see why this should not be treated similar to the resistance against the Draconis Combine and the Lyran Commonwealth.
Some of Rasalhague's people simply seem to place much value on their independence and their own culture. This is only consistent with earlier behaviour.

Also, the Amaterasu are not a mercenary regiment, and Tai-i Haag signed up in exchange for a promise to liberate her people, not for money.

Actually Marack, it's only sex for procreation that doesn't happen often in Clan warriors. Casual sex, even or especially between sibkos, is common according to the Jade Falcon trilogy. While the warrior caste are forbidden to procreate via sexual intercourse, it does happen- look at Aidan Pryde's daughter for an example. The offspring are considered freebirth, but it does happen.

You know what? I hate Hanse Davion the most alongside Katherine (because of the FedCom civil war). That cunning backstabbing fox...

The Dragon's virtues may be difficult to understand for a gaijin. Someone not accustomed to the unity of the Kuritan people may misinterpret purpose and a sense of belonging for chains. A problem the Combine has faced on countless worlds it had liberated from the decadence of the other Successor States.
