it would require a whole new kind of strat, really, too. it'd be an interesting concept. here's hoping the devs can get something rolling

OP meele weapons = all player have meele weapons
OP meele Weapons for cash = 80% of the players stop playing
meele weapons for all = all players use meele weapons
so you can say: meele weapons kill Mechwarrior
and...
you want to have meele weapons... i think that this is no option in this game, we are not at Armored Core we are at Mechwarrior
what would be an option is like this:
physical armor Dmg and massive dmg into intern structures by jumping on the top of the mech.
by reading a book this is a awesome stunt with a chance of 50% to survive and kill the other

You do know melee has always been a staple of BT right? You do know that there are many ways to do melee and not just armored core/gundam style right? You can make it slow and clunky, hard to use, yet still rewarding. You can add in self damage for attacking without a melee weapon. Melee is basically the one advantage that IS mechs had over most clan mechs on the battlefield.

I know it was in the TT but this doesn't work the same as the TT game.
Even though I'd dearly love to kick a field goal with a Jenner in my Atlas.

If it will be implemented right it can be usefull in some cases and balanced, I am sure it would not result in "all mechs will be a meele combatant only"
For example:
For Meele combat you could need not only hand equiped mech, but some aditional armor on fist.... so it could cost some weight.
If you have a weapon on arm, you can damage it during meele attack and it could stop working.
And finaly the controls. For example via freelook for hands movement (backswing) and with special trigger for punch... so if you will be lucky, you can hit hard your opponent while running against you for example but it will be pretty tricky and definitely not an option for all players...

True, but it looks to me that we're post-Clan, if you know what I mean
I realize the value of melee from the novels, but I have to say that coming off the old MW games that seeing axes and other melee weapons on the tabletop mechs made me do a double-take. Even knowing it existed in universe, and that melee weapons are even in the names of some mechs, it is still something that I didn't truly associate with MW for the longest time. The tabletop mechs I have that sport hatchets and chainsaws still look a big absurd to me.
I'm still not a huge fan of 1st person melee in games. Some games have done it well, though I feel that more have failed at it, but I'm still not enamored with it and I, for one, could live without it in MWO.

We are actually pre clan. Quite literally right before the clans attack. They still make melee mechs at this point (see axman and hatchetman) and even after the clan invasion. We have the yen-lo-wang in now and it feels really weak without melee. Melee needs to be part of MWO eventually.

They could also add in an ammo system wher you buy "fist armor" from the ammo section in the shop that depleats with each punch.

I understand Death from Above is sort of in already. That's sort of a kick.

And swords and axes just feel... weird to me. It just doesn't make sense. i don't care about realism per say (hey, I'm in a 45 ton robot!) but I feel swords and axes just doesn't make sense at all. Now, horseman's picks and maces? That seems like a better fit.

Weapons don't rally have their own stats, they only add 2 tons to the total mech tonnage, which the mech tonnage divided by I don't remember is how much melee damage you do.
