I know im really late to the party but i will say this, I am surprised how well the caesar is doing, especially for the fact that of all places the armor is lightest on the left and right torso, on a mech that carries an XL engine... just some food for thought.

I'm just puzzled by the overabundance of high-tech, limited availability choices. You can pretty much buy two 3025-Atlases for the price of a 70-tonner with an XL engine. If we are going to have limited or no access to advanced tech at the start, we're left with the Guillotine-4L or the Cataphract-1X &-2X. I voted for the Cat because I could see myself driving one early on in the game.

Gotta go Cataphract. It's a powerful Liao mech that's seen plenty of variants since it's release. Similair to the Caesar, but the Caesar seems to have been abandoned by the Davions.

I don't know why anyone voted for the Excalibar, it's just not a good design, and the art might be impossible to make look good without completely redesigning it. Also it's very rare.

i do like the Excalibur, Gauss rifle with lrms is one of my favorite weapon groupings. Yet i had to vote ceaser. I have always loved this mech and the falconer. gauss and ppc priceless.

Ceasar or the Cataphract. Excalibur should only make an appearance if there is melee. It is like having an Axman or Hatchman. They are not the best unless they knock someone's head off.

Cataphract because according to Sarna the 3D was introduced in 3025, so there will be more of it than the Caeser which was not introdued til 3049.

Since the capture of Tikonov by the Davions it is a Davion Mech.

In the BT timeline prior to the clan invasion of the IS,the majority of mech chassis available are designed to be role specific.The mechs are hard wired to accept a particular weapon and would be costly and time consuming to alter.
So with that in mind.... All hail Ceasar !
