Caesar, would actually solve my thread post wondering what fire support mech might suit my needs. Well, maybe not but hey least PPC's would make it in at launch.

I just checked the poll and remember folks friends don't let friends vote for the Excalibur. I think the problem is that Ceasar and Cataphract (which should be the clear winner by the way) are so similar in apperance.

The Excalibur has no short range defense if ammo becomes an issue, uses an XL engine and it is simply Butt ugly.

The Cataphract has potential, good range and short support in 4 ML's but uses an XL engine to boot and with a cost of 13+Million C-Bills...ouch

The Caesar has firepower at ranges but is a tad slow and uses an XL engine and is a tad rounded to boot.

I can BUY 2 Guillotine's for any 1 of the others and it has pretty good punch, looks alright and does not have an XL engine.

So, simply for economic value I select the Guillotine as the wiener.

Guillotine. It has an original look to it. I think the FD reboot would be great.

Isn't one a copy of the other?

Well of the mech's mentioned on the list the only one that is in anyway common is the Cataphract, it's the primary heavy mech of Liao and used in reasonable numbers by the FedCom Armed Forces. It is available in a 3039 freindly low-tech 1x variant that's pretty good for the time frame.

It also brings something to the table that is missing from our current mech mix, a heavy line of battlemech. So for fluff, lore and balance reasons my vote goes to the Cataphract.

PS the reason why the Caesar and Cataphract look similiar is that the Caesar was based on the Cataphract design. The fluff is that the project was done to hide the Axman development and testing so it had be a "quick and dirty" redesign.

I really wanted a GHR in this weight class but the Guillotine will have to do. The Caesar would be my second choice and after that it is a wash.

Probably Guilotine, but that's based solely on the look.

Caesar I guess...

Wanted to vote for the Grasshopper.

I think the Grasshopper is a for sure candidate for inclusion imo, so they post to see our opinions on the mechs.

I'm surprised ANY of these mechs are in the poll when there are other way more cool and iconic mechs in this range.

I had to abstain from this one

Let's be honest here, would the poll even have a purpose if I had added a certain 'Mech that starts with a War and ends with a hammer?

 Please Garth. Do not crush their "Wet Dream" just yet. Purolator has not delivered my "Dry Suit" and I wish to be properly dressed for the occasion. Thanks. :D

Cataphract - almost like a low tech Caesar, and it has what appears to be a... maurader arm? Strong striking at all ranges, the armor is a little light and only one ton of AC/10 ammo.

You are not quite right with two things: first, it's a Caesar who was copied from Cataphract design and could be called as its high-tech descendant; second, it's not reasonable to compare Caesar CES-3R released in 3049 with Cataphract CTF-1X prototype presented in 3025. Correct comparison should be done with CTF-3L variant of 3036:

Quote

CTF-3L - An upgraded version of the Cataphract that follows more in line with the prototype 1X model, the 3L variant is propelled by an XL Engine with MASC which allows it to move at speeds up to 86.4 km/h in short bursts. The 'Mech is armed with an LB-X Autocannon/10 as its primary weapon which is matched with an ER PPC for powerful striking capabilities at long range. The 'Mech is also armed with four Medium Pulse Lasers for close combat.

Caesar loses in mobility and armor, lacks medium range armament, but has better long range punch due to gauss rifle, but I would trade mobility of CFT-3L over CES-3R any day.

Winner: Cataphract  (but it looses in the poll due to its famous nickname I believe, what an irony)

Guillotine! Either I'm in a smiling "hey guys, DIE!" ammo independent, flying 70 ton bad mamajama, or I'm in a more polished, futuristic ammo independent, flying 70 ton bad mamajama. The other mechs in the poll might have some cool toys aboard, but this mech is downright sweet, and could be cooler, if the fluff didn't nerf it for w/e reason.

The Caesar is my favorite. The Excalibur is kind of odd, and I'm also surprised it is in first. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
