Where can I apply? As a believer in the Clan way of life, I am all for rules, regulations & general order. I have created & ran forums in the past & would be happy to assume the responsibility if you so choose.

Might I also suggest that we install some rules of conduct? No leet or chat speak (U, ppl, that sort of thing), no swearing, no ad hominem attacks, all that?

There is a Code of Conduct already in place. While it doesn't mention leet speak, it does talk about vulgarity, etc.. here's the link:

I don't see it stickied in the forums. :)

But yes, I know there is one, but you have to go looking to find it (and be honest, how many people have actually read it?).

And complete with some rather odd (in my opinion) rules. Though I do like the blanket ban on sexual slurs. I know of far too many places were such slurs are used indiscriminately.

Holy ****, that is the most in-depth set of forum rules I've seen in a while. Should keep the forum nice and mature if these are enforced properly.

Personally I would love to say people in Vancouver should be picked so we can go to meetings, but I know that isn't realistic.

Lol...they're not hiring employees to work on the game. They're looking for forum moderators, i.e. fanbois who want a little "power" in the form of being able to move / delete posts on an internet forum. Forum moderators don't participate in game design...

How many forums do you visit, that have the Code of Conduct stickied? It's not hard to find, it's (in my opinion) a fairly prominent link, where it's 'traditional' to have important links (you did read the privacy policy, and the ToU, didn't you?).

Most of them, actually. The number that doesn't I can count on one hand and still have fingers left over.

And yes, I do read the private policy and such, but I think I'm the exception rather than the rule.

Interesting.. I have the exact opposite experience, in that most of the forums (especially game related ones) that I frequent, do not have the Code of Conduct stickied, just a link to it off the site.

I'll be the first to admit that I've been spoiled like that.

Officer in a few player organizations, Current and past.
Moderator for chat at Kongregate.

Willing to help out if you need me.
Recently disabled, so I have time on my hands. :)

One thing you will want to address in your code of conduct is
allowable links and outside sites. Be specific as you can
since you have an anything goes part of the forums.
This is from past experience. You may think you have it
covered with the other items listed, but you'd be surprised.

I am willing to be a moderator if required, I have plenty of time to devote to it and a reasonable ammount of modding experience.
However if I don't get it, I don't mind. I'm not desperate for the stress, just willing to help the community.

A while back there was this test that was done where there were 100 people who were to join a chatroom for 100 days straight. On each day, only 1 new person was made the admin so that at the end of 100 days each person got a crack at being an admin.

99 of the people chose to invoke some form of forced moderation on another, be it a muting, kick or day-long ban. It was later determined that many of the people did this merely to get back at someone who had done it to them. It hints that finding a good moderator, one who is willing to hear out both sides, but adhere to the standards the forum has set, is rather rare to find.

Yeah, good moderators are hard to find.. you want someone who is passionate about the subject, but at the same time.. you don't want someone who will let their passion get in the way of 'fair' decision making.

I wouldn't mind being a moderator, although I have absolutely no experience with the ban-stick :) lol.

If there's still a hole to be filled in the mod-roster, I'd be willing to volunteer my services.

Thanks for the insight, Aegis. Interestingly this is very much what I already thought of most forum users.

Actually, it is what makes me think that those who yell "me...me!!! ME!!" the loudest are probably the peeps
I wouldn't want as a moderator at all. Most peeps lack the skill of having a proper discussion without flaming
someone, and surely don't have the skills of objectively watching an ongoing discussion without (!) biased
interference.

This said, I'm pretty confident that the guys here know how and whom to choose a mod or not.
