Zanathan, some people are simply WoW-ified, or Zynga-fied and now think of games as something different than fun platforms.

Laugh at them for yourself and ignore them, but don't argue with them. The process they went through is irreversible.

Too darn funny. XD

Defiantly agree with the 'Wow-ified' feelings in the thread.

WoW ruined (many, many) PC gamers attitudes to training for goals, working for a reward, qualifying for this or that, being ignorant of the risk vs. reward idea in most gaming, wanting to reach end point in as little time as possible, etc... the list could go on. Really, I think WoW is one of the worst things that have happened to PC gaming...ever. It has morphed the average Joe PC gamer into being a lazy gamer. It's true. Many gamers want to achieve end results quickly, don't want to spend more than an hour or two reaching an objective, and heaven forbid if they have to retry some mission or quest more than a handful of times. It's a malignant tumor on the face of PC gaming that has caused the fall of nearly every MMORPG that was released *after* WoW. Now what game doesn't allow you to reach level 10 in an hour?

No, I greatly admire PGI for their current model of buying mech and resisting the current trend of 'minimal effort = great reward' that pervades so much gaming currently. You're not going to get an atlas after an hour or two of playing. When I got my first Jenner I felt that I had accomplished something great - and all players do once they qualify out of trial status. Congrats to y'all, and congrats to PGI!!!

The grinding continues even after you've purchased your first variant in order to get to the "Elite" level. Now I am really considering disconnecting from a match before my 'Mech gets shot to pieces because I want to save the C-Bills towards two more variants... Yep, that's grinding to me.

If you are only "Grinding" for achievements why are you playing?.....

Yeah, MWO does actually fit the bill for a "grind" but despite playing truly free 2 play, and HAVING to "grind" to get mechs for XP I can say, there is no real "grind" to the game. Games that are dismissed because of the "Grind" are the games in which you get very little for a great amount of work. Games that takes months to even gain an upgrade to a machinegun.... This game in the course of two weeks I have purcased more than 14 million c-bills worth of mechs and equipment.... IF you think this game is a "Grind" go play somewhere else or atleast create your own forum to gripe away from those of us that actually are happy to see a MW game done this well.

WoW never "morphed" anyone. Those gamers, already was there. Blizzard merely retuned their game to cater to the lowest common denominator, the button bashing console gamers with ADD , to capture their simplified gaming structure and need. You all are simply not recognising the fact that the Blizzard merely adapted to the majority. The problem is not WoW. The problem is the bad gaming majority.

Having been reading the forums for sometime and having the pleasure of being invited to closed beta I seriously don't understand everyone's sentiments of 'grinding'. This is a PvP game! The whole point of it is to fight against others players. From what I have read, players are complaining about the grind of fighting against other players ... it boggles my mind. I enjoy PvP and I don't 'feel' that the matches are a grind. The same applies to other PvP games such as FPS. The enjoyment comes out of PvPing and if you don't enjoy this then what is the point of playing this game and complaining about the grind of .. PvPing?

+10 for you dear Zanathan :) exactly what i think...

ppl complain about the "grind" because they want their "ultimate killing built" immediately...the one they are used to and fits perfectly to "pwn"...

they just don´t see it that way... i personally also think that you make your money anyway by doing what you should do.... go out there and fight, with what ever you have

and be happy when you finally get some new toys to play with

To both Zanathan & Adrienne:
Ayup. 'Nuff said.

Indeed, people spend their entire lives, whole fortunes, chasing what is arguably the most repetitive and enjoyable action of all; In/Out/In/Out... :P

Idk... that feeling of relieving the pressure in a sorely overinflated bladder is quite pleasing as well. (Oh don't lie and say it isn't, you know I'm right.)

I personally like the grind because it is corrisponding with the battletech universe. There is no mechwarrior who gets an atlas in the first place, you have to show your skill on the battlefield and gain experience in battle to achieve your seat in that cockpit.

I like it because when i finally have that chassis i know i have achieved something and i have the trust of my faction. Thats why buying a founders package makes no sense in my opinion because my long time motivation would be a lot worse. Sadly in the game you will see lots of Atlas "noobs" because you can have that founders Atlas right after getting that founders package.

I agree with you there. (Sorta.) I actually bought the elite founders package and my mech was the atlas. I never remember choosing it, and, honestly, I hate the damn thing. It's slow as hell, and it's like driving a giant walking bullseye. I prefer smaller, faster mechs. Sure, you will ALWAYS have the people who think "AWW YEAH. I'M TEH 1337 DR!V3R CUZ I GOT AN 4TL45. U SUCK N00BZ!" And those are the same people who end up ******** once they realize that it's actually impossible to buy your way through this game. Epic equipment, does not a mechwarrior make. It makes an new player with potential to become better. (Plus, some people refuse to play after finding this out, and spending money. Personally, I support their decision in that. We don't have to listen to their whining in or out of the game, IGP gets it's money, and they go bug someone else. EVERYONE (here) WINS!)

The feeling of wearing tight shoes all day then taking them off is relieving too. But who is to blame for wearing tight shoes in the first place...
