I think character creation would be fantastic. I kind of like the ability to advance my character through interaction with characters and then in combat with mechs.

Voted no, but in the future if they have an amazing game done with all canon mechs in the game and all TT rules applied with tanks, infantry, bunkers, turrets, naval vessels, aero, dropships and all the other stuff from the game, then maybe I will worry about what color my hair is or what color my eyes are. Wait I already know those things since I am the pilot of my mech I just need a mirror to attach over the monitor and I can go wow look at the amazing pilot.

Of course I want more characterization... Either you want more or you click OK until its over, no one could argue that it ruins the game.

when i 7x zoom in 10m away to make sure i hit you in the cockpit, i wouldnt mind seeing the look of horror on your face as you watch the ac 20 round or whatnot impacting on the window.

Creating an actual poly character might be overkill or a ways away. But being able to create a portait avatar that people can see with your profile I think is a must to distinguish your pilot(you). Maybe not for beta or even launch but it definitly needs to be in the game. Heck maybe even let us upload self portraits.

A simple thumbnail pic will suffice for my game face. As it has been said several times, I just want to shoot other mechs. If the devs want to enhance it later, fine, but don't make "walking in dropships" a priority over cool new mechs to shoot at.

I think it is a great idea if for no other reason then being able to put a face to the name you end up hating with a firery passion, and you know that will happen

Self portraits or even custom portraits. Hee, that would get funny.

I'd be down for character creator, EVE's new one is great, I love it, just wish it was used more. I think it would really add a more social element to the whole lobby thing especially if we could have companies made and have company drop ships etc. Have to do it in a way that isn't breaking immersion but that'll be tricky to begin with, we're going to be jumping whole systems in seconds instead of days/weeks.

Travel to the jump ship via drop ship back and forth takes a /long/ time in lore.

I notice here that there are alot of Eve Online players here aswell, I suppose it is the same thread in a sense Since the makers of MW have been on very long lunch break. Where you are a pilot and you strap yourself in for custom made mayhem. And the option of tailoring a pilot the mech is ideal. After all, isnt that what some of us old clanners use to do. BioEngineer ourselves to our Mechs... Something worth seriousily looking into, in having an edge for combat. :(

I've never played EVE Online, but from the screenshots and vids I've seen, I definitely agree in that MechWarrior Online should have something similar. I mean, think about the name of the game for a moment: MechWarrior. The "warrior" is not the mech itself, but rather the pilot. Otherwise, why not just call the game "Battletech"? Or "Mech Warfare"?

The amount of character customization that would need to be available for character creation to be immersive enhancing as opposed to do immersion breaking is too much.

Spend time making mech customizations, that's my avatar, really. Having a human face is way, way down the list. I'd rather have insignias or nose art with the same amount of customization in say, a Bethseda or Bioware game on their faces and races.

In all honesty, I don't think it would be "too much" to implement character (pilot) customization. As I've mentioned before, EVE Online has this and, mind you, a majority of the time in that game you're out in space looking at your own battleship as you traverse different solar systems and fight against other spacecrafts. Yet they still managed to squeeze in character customization. MechWarrior Online is running through the CryEngine, so I'm pretty sure the game engine is able to handle this feature.

Now to be fair, I'm not asking for high customization features like you would see from an MMORPG, though it would be nice to see it at the level of APB or EVE Online. And besides, most of the characters will look somewhat similar anyway because they're military soldiers, not warriors of fantasy, so again, we don't need anything too extravagant. But at least have a few tattoos or other distinguishing characteristics that define their faction allegiance, or even if whether they're IS or clan.

EDIT: Scratched out APB. While it has great character customization, it's way too in-depth for a game like MechWarrior Online.

Yep, I have faith they could absolutely do it.

But every minute that some 3d Artist has a human face on his screen, and is rotating it left and right and adjusting eyebrows, is a moment that he's not placing "Realistic scratches" in the first exposed missiles on my missile rack, or adding yet another pinup variant for nose art.

But sure if there is a guy who's going to get fired for not having anything to do, put them on face design. Paul, perhaps.

Folks, this is not EVE, you dont need learn skills for fight. If you want to skill, go to play WOW.In all Mechs pick up the joystick, fire up lasers and go to them! The only thing I want is the appearance of characters, Mech color, your logo or flag.

The game has many other priorities, no need to clutter the wishlist with character creation and ponies...

I would like a character creation aspect available in the game , but I don't think it shoud be required to play. The idea I have would be to develop the character within the scope of the BT/MW universe and wiithin the house one chooses as a means of advancing in game. I know there are many whose only goal for the game is to blowup mechs, and they should be able to do that. Howeve, there are many of us for whom the BT universe is the ultimate playground who would love to really "roll around in the mud" and explore more than "boom boom "factor. Even if this aspect is never realized I'm going to enjoy what elements there are in the game!

Voted yes. But I don't need a visualized character or direct interaction with the environment. This character would simply serve as skill carrier with some fluff. And this is going to be implemented anyways (we will have pilot skills and House or Merc allegiance).

It's a Mech Combat game. We don't need digital barbie dolls to dress up and give new outfits, "Oh look, she's almost digitally naked! SEKSEE!" :) .

The only people that see you are tired, dirty techs and winning enemies that see a bit of strawberry jam if they crush your cockpit. This has absolutely NO concern with playing a MECWARRIOR game. It's about blowing **** up and driving a big arfing robot, not about what new skimpy suit you put on your mechwarrior (that you don't see during play in any case).

I'm not opposed to this being an option for other people in the fture, but it's so far down the list of what the game needs in order to be a good MECHWARRIOR game that it's not even a blip on the radar as far as I'm concerned. It's NOT an RPG, it's been stated multiple times...

If people want this, just pick up a copy of Poser and dress them up to your content. It has as much part of play as a character maker in the game would.
