Hopefully, "being playable" will be among the new features introduced on the 16th.

I'd hope to expect a working game, i've seen them fix none of the old issues and instead implement new problems.

Just to interject, to all those that assume they need more funding from the open beta to continue development, you are again placing yourselves at the center of the universe. Game development is divided into "milestones". Each milestone is to be delivered to the publisher at the appointed date and time and following the delivery of the milestone the publisher gives the developer (in this case PGI) a part of its budget. A game with a 2 million dollar budget will never get that 2 million dollars right off the bat. PGI has the funding from the publisher to finish development and they dont need to go open beta just to drum up more profits.

what is "a hero mech" exactly?

and yes, the open beta coming now is more from the publishers hand than the dev's. its a shame though because in the public eye, regardless of what you call it, its the games official release.

Best thing to do at this point is a player made, kickass web tutorial that you can spam in chat every single game. And dont troll/chastise afk players since they will probably be looking at a website trying to figure out how that big hunk of metal works (since theres no tutorial mode with target practice etc).

This. 2 days since patch and the game is still unplayable . .and open beta on Tuesday? I am more concerned about the success of this game than features at the moment.

In the uneducated public eye perhaps the game is officially released. The large bulk of the public is educated and is aware that this is a beta, not a release. The uneducated ones are the most vocal.

The game is 95% stable, just because it doesn't run for YOU doesn't mean it wont run for the next guy.

Has nothing to do with system specs. And BTW it doesn't even run properly for the next guy and the up to fourteen guys beside him at the very moment.
If you think it's 95% stable by now it seems you haven't been online since tuesday!
It HAD been around 95% stable prior to the actual update. But they choose to shoot their software badly and it seems they can't pinpoint the issue.
Having to kill the client through the taskmanager everytime you shut down, the current server instability, vanishing armor and equipment on a newly beought 'Mech, Memory Allocation Error not beeing addressed for weeks...
Yup, the game is 95% stable and ready to be presented to the masses. They'll love it so much that they'll throw their wallets right at the monitor...
It's much easier to commit suicide jumping right into a live minefield.

If this is the case than pressing to rush out the Open Beta at the current state does even make less sense though...
And you didn't consider what the publisher wants. They doesn't print their money in the basement themselves...

Sorry.... WHAT!?!

Pauls comment on reddit:
"While some companies have used the term Open Beta to be in line with launching their product to the general gaming populace, it is not the case for our title."
Sure, the majority of your educated large public bulk will instantly notice that MW:O is very different from the products of other companies...
You seem not to live on the same planet we do...

You just gave me a quote that proves my point. If you were trying to argue against me you just shot yourself in the foot.

You also assume that they will simply leave the game as is all beta long and not patch it at all?

"And you didn't consider what the publisher wants. They doesn't print their money in the basement themselves..."

You clearly have no understanding of how this works, a publisher doesnt demand instant returns, noone does. They give money to a developer and in return expect profit ONCE THE GAME IS RELEASED.

Spend 10000 dollars on a university education in game development and then come back and try to school me.

As an aside, another game that expected money in return for beta and was wildly succcessful: Minecraft

I WANT TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT WHILE THIS DEBATE MAY BECOME HEATED WE ARE ALL STILL BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN ARMS HERE,

As open beta gets relatively closer we should keep in mind that the game will not be officially released until every planned item has been implemented. In the following months we will see a large increase in players that will need to be told that the game is in beta. If we act like the game is finished we will receive poorer reviews from the public than if we openly state that the game is not finished.

I hope that we will stay honest in our assessment of this game and praise the features that have been done correctly and ticket the items that need work.

They say "Open Beta" but they release the game to everyone and start taking people's money. That's not Open Beta, that's Release. It's even being marketed as 'come play this game, pay us money, etc'.

In the games current state, each patching producing more performance and stability problems, still missing content (like item descriptions, lobby chat, game modes, etc), the quality of the current client is a Beta quality, but the game is being launched next week.

It's not a good sign for PGI or MWO.

this last patch made the game more stable, not less. other than the patch before that, i can't think of a patch that made the game worse. you're QQing about nothing

Say that about my dozen or so support tickets, created after each patch between about June and now. On average, excluding the last patch, I've had to re-install about 5 times after each patch just to get a working install.

Also, if you can't think of a patch that made the game worse, it doesn't mean they didn't exist. Just take a look at the forums, look back to the time at each patch release and you'll see the hundreds/thousands of people who had worse performance patch after patch.
