I'd really like to be able to have my entire windows interface MechWarrior themed. What I have in mind is making windows look like an in cockpit computer interface might look.

Mostly I'd want it to be kinda utilitarian and military looking with Battletech looking fonts and colors. It'd be really neat to reskin things like the start button with a mech appropriate version.

Presently I'm running Vista still but I just got my copy of 7 and plan to install it in the next couple weeks when I have time to do a full wipe of my hard drive (I want to start fresh).

If anyone wants to point me in the right direction to try to make this interface myself please do =) If I had the time I'd spend a couple hours looking it up on google right now.... as it is presently all my "free" time is consumed building my mech cockpit =) It's really starting to come together as of today and I'm pretty happy with the results thus far. I'll post pics when it's ready!

cool story bro. lets get guys from their art team to make you a theme just cause you wanted it. nevermind the time it'll take out of their busy work schedule or the extra development time this project will accrue.

however, if you want to make it yourself with input and help from the community, i suggest you do a better job on the thread title.something like "help me make a mechwarrior windows theme"

best regards.

@cinco

Chill dude, the guy never asked the devs for anything. He just stated that he'd like an OS theme AND is willing to make it himself.

@cinco

Looks like a normal request for assistance from anyone interested in helping him to me... no need to go ballistic on the guy.

@Corsa

Great Idea, Im no artist, but I have some great Ideas for the direction your looking in. Possibly Mod the start button and taskbar to be part of a graphical cockpit, add buttons to linked to commonly used programs, heck we could even change desktop Icons to look like splattered bugs on the windshield lol.

Don't forget to change your Windows startup sound to:

Reactor online
Sensors online
Weapons online
All systems nominal

Or else regardless of how nice it looks, it'd never be close enough to what it should be. =P

@Hayashi
Thats a freekin great Idea... Going to do that right now.

You know, I got to thinking about how the voice in the Atlas drop said all systems Online, thats not such a bad thing. It could have been talking about Life support, Gyros, and the hoola girl :D

Bad cinco! This is not a Steam/CoD/WoT forum...go here and perform the necessarily atonement (ala drink something).
:D

So let's get some resources listed so peeps can take a crack at this (I haven't messed with a custom theme in ages, normally I change the desktop pic and that's it).

Rocketdock - dock animation, custom stuff
Dreamscene - 3D/video background wallpapers.
Win7 Startup Sound change - untested.
Mothership - How MS wants you to do it.
Desktop DreamScape - make your own vids for background themes (hmmm...seems too easy)

Ubuntu has some interesting options as well (imagine that)
compiz

Oh and imagine @1:44 of this vid, that cube being the innersphere map -

Was wondering myself if they were going to come out with one, or "Official" desktops for MWO.

I grabbed a Hunchback screenshot,and made it my desktop. Then made all the other In Game Screen shots into my screensaver.

@ cinco seriously, relax. Take a deep breath, and think before you post.

Please read this http://mwomercs.com/...ing-ettiquette/

There's really no need to be so combative. We're all ,mostly, mature adults here. And at your age (Roughly 28?) I am sure you can figure out how to interact with the community in a more positive manner.

Cheers.

Your desktop icons would go in a weapons bar. You computer usage stats could be the heat, speed, coolant and jump jet meters. The start button would be a toggle switch on the console that brought up the start menu on the bottom left status screen. Amazing stuff could be done with this idea.

Proceed to dustoff site for extraction.

This would be another one of those things the Devs can do after the release, to offer for a small fee. This can also be carried over onto things like a Windows Media Player Skins and the like.
Btw, loving the Constructive Feedback all the 'good' forum members are offering.And I have to say that I love the Mod that added the Label of Resident Grump onto cinco's Avatar. Posted Image

I'm wondering how much of the game files will be installed on our PCs, & how much will run from the servers. The Elder Scrolls games' sound effects were in a format that Windows could understand, so you could use them as part of your Windows soundscape. Post-release, we might find we have all the mech sounds we want. ;)
