I find myself not wanting to intrude on what I can only imagine are groups of people with far greater understanding of the game and universe than I. Or, there are people that just want to blame a loss on someone that doesn't do what they think should be done. Early on, I had someone spewing idiocy at me in chat over my trying to cap the base after killing a dragon single handed, when the rest of the team did absolutely nothing. Apparently it was my fault we lost because I should have just thrown myself at the enemy's guns.

I am new too this franchise, an adult, & have come from a long commited player of Eve online. This game is hard on new players like myself. It is not overly intuitive, & I made several mistakes initially trying to figure out the logistics. Have been playing a couple of hours every day to learn.Newbie players are not welcomed in my experience when playing with better players, they take fun out of rattling newbies. As have improved(a little) experience has improved somewhat. I am not keen to be chastised verbally over a mic, its embaressing enough to have it typed out for all to see. This is a great game, & I intend to continue for now.Would like to use voice if only to learn battle tactics, but am reticent. This game will die if new players are not welcomed.

I only use voicecomms if I play with friends.

If I am not playing with friends, I am playing with music, and thats why I would deactivate every kind of ingame voice instantly. I could not hear other people anyways, and I dont believe they will like it if I blasted loud metal over it.

Bad experiences with voice chat, alongside a broken headset. I sat on it.
Feth talking to people, anyway. Too many idiots from what I have experienced.
If I don't use a mic, then I can more easily resist becoming as dumb as, say, the majority of people I used to run into while play various Call of Duty games (after 3, that was fun and polite) on XBL. Or maybe rude, not dumb. Possibly both.
I'm quite happy just typing what I have to say.Got a problem with that? Deal with it.
And I mainly play as part of a team nowadays. Or, rather, I haven't played on my own for quite a while.
But I still choose to type rather than waste money on a new headset. That I'd barely/rarely use.
Although the people I play with and listen to on Team Speak are kinda nice, so it couldn't hurt so much to talk back sometime...

Why don't I use voice comms? Mainly because it's a pain the backside, that's why. Most of the other MMO games I've played had some sort of VOIP built into them so you could at least listen to whoever you ended up grouped with, even if you didn't have a mic or didn't feel like speaking. That's the way to do it - make it easy to use, and people will use it. IMO, there should be a way for a PUG team to chat amongst themselves. The fact that MWO steadfastly refuses to integrate VOIP is incredible. And no, C3 doesn't count: its yet another program to clutter up my hard-drive, with a user-surly interface that is thoroughly non-intuitive. I don't want to wrestle with a 3rd-party app when it's time to drop, I want to play the rutting game.

Simple and easy reason, i find it harder to play while lackin comm. chatter.
Why, not only i have to anticipate oposing side i have to check minimap/map for my own, anticipate my own team movement and play accordingly.

Because last time I joined the "official" MWO voice chat, I was subjected to some pretentious **** prattling on about how anyone without a cutting edge rig isn't a "real gamer", and was actually telling us that the devs should raise the system requirements to weed those people out.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll join voice chat with people I know, but I've long since given up on it with random strangers.

Already posted this in one of the numerous other threads about this topic:

I generally dislike Voicechat outside of the combat situation at hand where it is needed because I get annoyed real quick by people talking about stuff not related to the game we're playing. I don't care about your problems with your girl nor do I care if your boss is a ****. I have a bunch of problems in my own life which I talk about with my real life friends. When I'm gaming I'd like to have fun not hold other peoples hands while they whine. Thus I very rarely join clans because most of them have a strict always be on TS or you're out mentality.

Hence I also do PUG in MWO, which will be totally fine as soon as they figure out how to get voice chat on for pugged teams aswell.

The other reason I'm pugging is because creating a group in this game is stupidly complicated because you have to find the people to group with by some out of game means (this forum, other forums or a TS server [which I don't like]). This game really needs a lobby (maybe with language seperated channels, but not necessarily) with chat to easily find people to group with. Heck even Diablo 1 had this already 15 ******* years ago.

I don't listen to "Great Commanders" over voice or text chats. Voice com only with friends or clan mates.

If they wish to make team play as must have, I would prefer system that Battlefield 2 had, immo it's perfect with quick chat options, map\orders and squads.

I simply don't want to talk to people when I'm on the pc. It's chill out time from my life.

I'm a team player, I'm alright at the game but it just doesn't appeal.

If it was properly integrated and I could just be chatting (or more likely just listening to) my team, i would use it. Finding out comms channel, switching out of game, changing TS or C3 channel, switching back in, all for a 10 minute game? No.

I don't do organised teams because i play maybe half a dozen games a week. Not worth it.

I admit that I am an "older gamer" at 47. I've stopped using voice on most games because of the foul mouthed brats. Heck, I don't even want to read the text for the same reason. The MWO crowd seems more mature overall though. I'll probably give it a go once it goes open and two of my equally old buddies are on with me. We'll have to look for an "Old Geezer" group.

I will have to agree with you on that. I am 49 and have played video games since Pong came out mid 70's.

When Starseige and Mech Warrior came out I played them to death and loved it.....then we got internet and I played online.....not sure which one it was but it was fun. Until...............chat. That ended it for me.....and most of it was from teens....kids no older than 15 who's voice still crackling from pubertity calling you an F'n this and F'n that. I quit after a month and never went back.

Plus dial up made lag a ******....anyone here remember dial up lag.......man that was a bummer...stupid mech just walking in place while you heard the other team pounding you to death...:-)

Anyway, I would not think I would ever use a voice chat...I don't use it on PS3 orXB360 due to the language....and can't see much changing.

Plus at my age...I don't want to listen to you....sorry but I have listened for near 50 years....I just want to play as best I can and enjoy it.....and if not joining in a voice chat etc helps....yippee.

After all...this is not reality...it is just a game. No one really dies.

Oh...and if anyone does create an Old Geezer group...count me in as a Founding Geezer....we may be slow...we may be old... but we paved the way for ALL video games. Long Live Asteroids.....and give me a coin op Defender anyday

I am glad to see that Mech Warrior has returned...been waiting years for it. Best game ever made I thought!!!! And at my age...plays at the perfect speed. I get dusted in Halo.

For me, it's simply that wireless headsets are expensive. I play on a media PC. At the moment I live in a one room apartment with my girlfriend to this is the most efficient use of space and it's nice to be able to watch movies and play the occasional game with her on it.

Same reason I'm using a low budget wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo.

Aaaaand a random place for my first post.

trouble is, since pug is random there's no way to tell which they are until you listen to them, and if you are forced to repeat this process again... and AGAIN... and AGAIN for each pug match at the start, your patience runs out VERY quickly.

so like most others have said, voice com? they are for listening to my clan mates and friends i know of...

i am not interested in listening to some random who may or may not be intelligent or even sane...

Now, if we TRULY want to push the voice com as a workable solution for pug... then at the minimum things that i can think of:
A. an IFF list integrated to the friends list etc, that allows us to block a person from conversing with us... either through audio or chat.
and it has to REMEMBER this list, so we don't end up doing it over and over again each time we see the person.
B. a way to share the list around our clan mates (optional)
C. a hierarchy structure for the voice com, so we can retain VOIP with clan members while still listening to the current match VOIP feed and choose one or the other for any given moment or at least some way to switch feed easily.

because otherwise, if that's not an option then VOIP to clan members take precedence first and we'll just stick to the VOIP we've been using within the clan.

i am not cutting off the feed from clan members just for some random pugs chatter who may or may not be useful at all.
