This poll is insulting and I laugh at the OP as a person and as a mechwarrior.

I will use voice when it activates with the drop group, only has the 3/7/11 others in my drop on the channel and lets me block kiddies.

I am not playing the middle school guild/clan/company garbage because I:

1 .Do not like children
2. Do not like children who say *** or *** when they mean lame as they should be shot in the face (and Neil Patrick Harris is far cooler and G A Y, so frak them)
3. think civilians who self assign military ranks are pathetic, really, all civilians are pathetic, the PX warriors are just the worst.
4. left middle school in the early 80's and I do not need the drama now
5. have no desire to hear some fat housewife pretend to be hot and talk her smack
6. have no desire to hear about peoples kids, garage doors, days at work, or what they ate

I have done the guild thing and it is always high school level ignorance being led by self-important kiddies. I want to get a mission, drop with my mech, kill people and return.

No drama.

I have a private teamspeak server which I and a few friends use but when I am pugging by myself( which I enjoy and do regularly) I will not use public voice servers az I detest listening to 12 yr olds and people talking smack and being rude to their team mates.

The only reason I don't use voise chat is the same reason I haven't joined a squad yet. Under preforming computer. When I get a new one. This will change. Right now, if I could go solo like in a free-for-all deathmatch. I would.

Barely enough RAM 4GB total about 3GB free
2/3 minimum requierment GPU. Constent, less then 10 FPS
CPU is fine. Decent duel-core for the minimum requierments
Internet speed is fine. Never more then 100MS. Consistant 60-90MS

I wouldn't call myself a noob, but I will throw in the reason why I didn't join any TS server to play MWO:

Because I can't ******* find any adress.

How about adding that option to your poll?

Finding an address shouldn't be an issue... just use the forum search or check the recruitment thread and pm that guy. :)
Or join the Outreach or NGNG TS server.

They need to set up a command so the commander can give orders, defend here, attack there, if you follow the orders you get bonuses

I'm not deaf but I don't hear particularly well, the vast majority of voice communication is fairly unintelligible to me. I have no real intention of trying to become uber-leet in this game and have plenty of fun with just random pugs. As long as they continue to have an enjoyable pug experience (I'm even ok with the occasional premade pugstomp) I will keep playing this game. I probably have a bit of a bias against voice anyways, before my hearing recently got real bad I did use headphones in several games and most of it seemed to be teens trash talking all the time or saying various racist and sexist things. Luckily this game seems to have a more mature audience.

Everyone on here complaining about abuse and drama... you're just dropping with the wrong people. I agree 100% with your sentiments, but if you'd only take a second to find a good adult-only group of like-minded folks, I feel like your experience would improve drastically. I've personally never had an issue with my group, or the crew I ran with previously.

Until then, enjoy complaining about getting fragged mercilessly by premades. :P

I may have been unlucky but after joining TS and been forced to listen to some
youth screaming obscenities everytime he was hit for a whole game then joining another group where
another dude were reciting Word of Blakes philosophy and then joining a third group where
forced to listen to the fast forward history of BT universe i just dont feel the urge to use TS that much
anymore.
Atleast not if i dont know the persons beforehand.

Personally, I find voice chat to be immersion-breaking in most games.

I really don't need to hear that Atlas pilot I am trying to support with a squeaky geeky 13-year old voice. I have nothing against kids playing btw, I have played with many sensible, focused kids and jerky, ADD adults - it's not age that matters, it's the 'idea' that I am playing with seasoned Mechwarriors and those are generally old enough to vote.

I don't need to hear some dorks opinions on Obama and gun control and whatever group he happens to be prejudiced against. In general, the difficulty/slowness of typing screens this kind of crap out.

I *will* use voice when it is crucial to a more significant effort than a PUG match (or PUGstomping with roflbuddies to build e-peen because they can't cut it in actual competitive 8-mans). Eg., in a clan/company effort at the eventual planetary stuff.

What I would prefer is first, that typing be as easy as possible. The current in-match chat is borked.
- it uses T to speak to everybodY and Y to speak to Team. Hello...McFly? (yes I know T could be broadcasT, but Y = team?) It is generally more critical for me to communicate quickly to my team... why do I have to reach past the T key to hit the Y?
- it sometimes disappears or kicks in half way through typing
- it fades out too quickly
- team chat isn't visible enough, broadcast is OK
- IIRC, you can't do chat while having the battlemap up (may be wrong on this)

Second, the mini-map/battlemap options need to be improved. Seriously. I can shoot lasers and PPCs but I can't type or steer or fire while I have battlemap up? Battlemap blocks out 2/3 of my screen? My HUD can only show me 200 metres in any direction? (Good map options are an essential part of team communication/coordination.)

Third, if voice chat is to be used in-game, it REALLY needs to be in-game and not some third-party option I install. As in, I configure my push-to-talk key and boom, my team can hear me.

The only other MMO/shooter I play is World of Tanks. They do this typing/voice/map/battle commands stuff 5 times better than MWO. Sorry if people are tired of hearing 'somebody else does this better', but if easy, well known techniques for doing this stuff exist, why the heck are you re-inventing the wheel and making it SQUARE?

Lastly, keep in mind that good communication, with or without voice comms, is one thing. Joining a team is another. I play to relax, try new things, learn my mechs, have fun. I also play to make exp and creds fast at times. I want to jump in a match, do what my mech is best at, get out as soon as I die and jump into the next mech. That isn't always conducive to team play, and team play is ALWAYS slower paced than playing solo.

There will be times when I choose to team. But 80% or more of my play time, I will play solo because it suits me to do so. I suspect a heck of a lot of other people do the same. If PGI wants to toss away cash flow by making the game harder on solo players, that's their choice. A lot of MMO's have disappeared over the years because they didn't make the right choices to grow their PAYING player base. I suspect that forcing people to play according to the 'developer vision' instead of the players preference, would be one of those.

I refuse to use a voice chat outside the game. I don't play with premades ever and when I drop into a game I want to talk to my new team mates. I don't want to search around for players with voice op get a premade going and stomp pugs. I prefer playing with a different group of players every match. I feel PGI should have integrated it long ago. It's a pretty basic function for FPS games. If you don't want it just turn off people like any other FPS. COD, Hawken, Battlefiield etc.

"Pugger" is essentially the same as the "N" word, so please stop using it - it's derogatory and unkind.

Also - if playing in groupy teamy voip talky games is so great, why don't you go and play in 8 v 8 instead of pugstomping?

the question is why play 8mans when it's more profitable to stomp and it makes people buttmad?

Elo solved this 'problem' anyway. What they should do is remove the separate 8 man queue, add in 5,6,7 man teams again. And then have a lobby so people can organize team v team matches, and anyone in teams or PUGs want to have random matches, the regular random drops will sort out evenly matched teams in terms of skill. So even if PUGs are playing against premades, they will still be equal in skill.

Biggest reason I pug is because I am a fan of chaos, I feel more engaged and thrilled when a team manages to fluidly come together with basic communication or even when it's all just a giant fustercluck and rounds and mechs are dropping everywhere. I don't mind if it means losses I just want good games, give me a pug only option and I will gladly take it.

The reason why I leave voice chat alone is multifaceted, most communication can be typed out and kept concise. Coordination is better in voice chat but it's breaks a barrier I would rather not cross. When people can use their mics at will it turns into people playing crappy music and often going full-******. When i'm in a lobby with other people on TS or whatever I get to hear people freak out over games which does nothing but **** me off. In every experience I have had with regular groups there is always some form of drama that enters the picture and i'm allergic to it. The final straw is the small windows of perception that open up with some people. I have heard more than my fair share of parents ignoring their kids to game or sharing parts of themselves I really want nothing to do with.

As a lone wolf pugger (hopefully not a noob) I don't like how you worded your poll. This won't accomplish anything.

I would use a an integrated voice chat such as the one included in many other popular online games or use Mumble when I occasionally play with friends but that is about it. I refuse to install TS3 or whatever and try to find a lobby of players, wasting my game time only to be matched up with a premade clan. When I can truly pug with integrated voice chat, that will be the day.

EDIT:I should add, the main reason I play this game is because I can play a round in about 5-7 minutes. It is great for my lifestyle right now where I can't commit to a solid hour of game time that many other multiplayer games need.
