I play both ways. I often go pugging when I'm experimenting with a mech or play style. I find it incredibly rude when I join a group and constantly have to wait on a group member who's messing around in the mechlab, so I don't do that to other people. It's nice to pug sometimes because you don't have to wait at all. Just hit launch and go.

Which gets me around to why I lone wolf:

Almost every time I have played with a named group instead of just a generic dropship with a number on it, I have encountered the same 2 frustrations:
1. They take forever to ready up.
2. They talk endlessly about irrelevant things. Most annoyingly, they do this right through the countdown timer when we should be discussing a plan. I hate being in a position of either rudely interrupting your cool story bro or not having a plan.

Finding a good group takes a bit of luck whether you pug or teamspeak. I've played with plenty of teamspeak groups that didn't co-ordinate as well as the average pug group using text chat.

And lastly, teamspeak makes the game too easy. If you want to improve your game, try winning games with pugs. You have to pay more attention to where everybody is on the map. It helps me improve a set of skills that is under-used in teamspeak matches.

All of that said, teamspeak is definitely the best way to play the game. One last message to those of you who play exclusively on teamspeak. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FOCUS FIRE. PRESS THE R BUTTON, AND TELL YOUR TEAM WHAT YOU ARE SHOOTING AT. IF SOMEBODY CALLS A TARGET, LEAVE THE TARGET YOU ARE SHOOTING AND FIND THAT TARGET. If you aren't going to at least do that much, then there is no reason for you to be on teamspeak. Go pug if you're going to chase your own targets.

It's more of a challenge than running with a premade group. And the word NOOB is a little degrading and childish ,i prefer to use the word Rookie.

Honestly?

Because I have difficulty fighting and talking at the same time. It makes me very terse when I play games like Day of Defeat, and I tend to speak more slowly, because I'm rather busy trying not to die and my brain is saying "Look, you want to deal with that sniper in church, or say it?". Typing is a pain, because usually the only time I need to type is when I'm recon, and when I'm recon, I really need my hands to maneuver - a light mech's speed is its second layer of armor (oh, the poor urbie).

Likely I'll use voice chat when its available in-game, and theres really no other way to effectivly coordinate a lance or half-company.

-Don ("3 in tunnel, atlas, 2 awesome" is easier to type when you're dead)

couldn't even vote. There wasn't a "I'm lazy and thus far haven't had a need for it" button. I don't think I've used TS since mw4. and back then it was mostly irc if I recall correctly.

Group drops were only implemented recently, it's not shocking a lot of/most people are still doing random drops. Personally I crash so often it's just impractical for me to join a group right now. I rarely make it through a single game.

My PC is in the bedroom and most of the time I'm gaming my wife is asleep. I can't be talking without also receiving a pillow upside the head.

What a PUG thinks;

"We don't like to be meddled with. Premades tell us what to do, what to think, don't run don't walk they're in our matches and in our heads and they haven't the right. They're meddlesome."

What Polls like these say;

"PUG, we're not telling you what to think. We're just trying to show you how."

*Premade violently PLUNGES the Gauss slug into the PUG's forehead*

It's hard to take the poll seriously with choices like those. They don't seem to be born of genuine concern/curiosity. Ragepoll?

That's also what I was thinking. Stupid response options. The guy's just mad but trying to look mature.

Just to be clear I wasn't trying to be rude, biased or elitist.

I could not think of every single response for the poll so yeah I am sure whatever issue people have are valid. I believe the I have no mic is probably the most valid reason I left out ..horrible assumption on my part.

Hate people or have a speech/hearing issue I understand that as well.

Not wanting to install more software ...yup I get that ...if C3 is implented seemless like vivox product is in EQ2 there wont be a need to teamspeak.

Want to avoid the foul mouth and whiney dbags ....I have dropped channel and even exited the game from some really foul or rascist ones only alternative would be to leave the planet to get away from some of them.

Being told how to configure your mech ...wow so many people want to help or tell you something wont work so don't even try ...had to deal with those guys too ...they can *******.

The term noob, rookie, fish, pug ...whatever they fact is at one time we are all new to the game. Are you having fun? Are you learning better techniques? Are you going to rage quit?

There are many people who know how to play and they are perfectly fine playing there way. That is also fine I just wanted people to know there are so of us out here that like playing and meeting people of all walks of life and enjoying the game together.

I admit that I am an "older gamer" at 47. I've stopped using voice on most games because of the foul mouthed brats. Heck, I don't even want to read the text for the same reason. The MWO crowd seems more mature overall though. I'll probably give it a go once it goes open and two of my equally old buddies are on with me. We'll have to look for an "Old Geezer" group.

Nope not mad just I enjoy the game better with other people. I like the sense of community and meeting good players. Not a ragepoll, not mad, not trying to look mature. I think its kind of funny to listen to how "salty" some of these guys are ..they have played battletech before tables existed.

Where is the option for 'can't stand some of the overly competitive people who seem to forget this is a game' ? Some ***** with too much time and no sense of humor that can't stand things not working out exactly right who is going to rant and scream over the channel. That's the reason I've mostly sworn off voice chat.

Not to say that everyone is like that. I just tend to wait and use voice chat later on when I know who's on the other end.

WHY?
I am posting this and asking you why would you not join teamspeak (the unoffical one or the NGNG one) or use C3.
There are education channels with truly nice people that can answer questions.
There are other people looking for group and learning the game
There are places to try new mechs and configuations
Just because you join a team does not commit you to a time frame or a certain number of games.
It does not guarantee a win. I have lost even while being in a premade but I win more often than when I do not jump on teamspeak.
You will get to hear and if you want interact with your team. (while some are immature the majority are adult players)

my blog: mechdaddy.com

Why should we.

let people play the way they wish and have fun doing so. Instead of trying to make people play your way.

To OP: You didn't take into account that someone can use another voice chat option than 'official' ones.

When I'm playing, I'm with my friends on our small TeamSpeak server, we can easily communicate using our own language(I'm comfortable with spoken English but they might have some problems), and it is not flooded by the constant rage and screaming that you suck by people who went straight into enemies' trap and blame you for their own stupid actions. When I have something to tell rest of the team, the least busy of us types it into chat.

And even text chat is filled now with people who know everything better than everyone, or so they think. Heck, when I was last one standing and I backed up to city fighting 3 mechs and started circling around buildings to fight one at a time, one of my dead teammates was giving enemy my exact position. Dealing with people like this makes me nervous so I say no to public voice chats. Too much hate and rage, too little friendly behavior and good advices to be worth it.

I understand what Basecamp is trying to say, I have been gaming along time and have belonged to more than a few corps. or clans over the years and currently belong to =TaT=(Thick as Thieves Gaming) We are an older bunch(we even have a guy who served in Vietnam) and we have servers for most of the popular shooters. All of our servers have game speak and we allow pubbies to come onto our team speak. Even with those, unless you are in an organized scrim it is hard to get the pubbies to act as coherent unit( kind of like trying to herd cats across a river), there will always be someone not doing something the others want them to do. Yes, having everyone on voice would make it easier to get organized but the reality is that some people are just going to do their own thing whether they are on voice or not. We need to put this in perspective, this is just Beta and there will be plenty of time when the game is released to be in organized play. Until then lets just just be happy that there is a new MechWarrior and we get to play it.

I am not trying to make anyone do anything ...It amazes me how blown out of proporations some make this and people blame me for ragepolling lol
I am in a group of good pilots none of whom I have ever met in RL ..the original reason for this post was a discussion after having a really good jenner pilot pugged with us of why they werent in voice chat ...turns out they were not even aware it was available.

Did they join us afterwards ...no. Did it matter ...no.

But if one good pilot out there wants to get in and try it ..well I hope they end up in my group. They will have a standing invite from me.

I am not sure if half of you responding are just trolling so I am through adding options and comments.

Thanks for commenting and stay frosty.

Thank you Dantiger, well said. I play in the TS servers as well as our Merc Corps own Vent. When people ask if we're a premade (in TS), I say "No, just a Pug on comm..." and in Ventrilo on with our own MC, we like to drop 4 or 5 on comm rounded out with a Pug. We don't always win, and only a very few are rage quitters. It's a way to socialize with people you may never meet IRL or be social with close friends. It's fun.
