Blame the whiners who kept crying about PUGs vs Premades... the best you can do is make two partial groups and hope you're on the same side (and the same game), I guess.
I'd rather get slaughtered by a team of founders or premades or whatever than not being able to play with all my friends. And I dont see why there was any whining in the first place. I can destroy in trial mechs. I think the people who are complaining are just bad players honestly =P

First off, it was posted in General, albiet by a user. For whatever point that's supposed to serve, since I don't see one. This IS an announcement, and was posted in Announcements. Mission accomplished, right?
As far as the main page, looking at the stuff they have posted there, this might be something worth putting there, but I doubt that. MAINLY, because they've been slaving themselves away to fix the lag in the last patch and did so, today. Which would you prefer... a working game... or several posts of the same announcement in several locations...?

PATCHING...
OMG whers patch nots?
find this post, cry for joy.
now
the incentive for playing in a group is that you will often, you don't need to give them anything else.
You will often what? Perhaps you left a word out.
When people are trying to gain c-bills or xp, they will choose the route that gets them there the fastest.

This one planned changed gives me doubts of the long term viability of MWO.
Sad. Just Sad.

However the game/product is going to be judged by the critics and players as soon as it is open to the public. If all accounts are treated as active and perminant with no resets between OB and the full launch then the full launch is in name only and the OB had better be what the developers want to show the world because it IS what they will show the world.

How does a patch that will be brief in it's lifespan give you doubts about the long term viability of MW:O? What, you don't like them testing stuff? Because that's sort of what Phase One will be. Besides, it's a beta. Losing the MM in it's current form was a GIVEN - neither does it matter what it becomes on it's way to being finished. All that should matter is what it will be when it IS finished.

But the rest of the announcement is awesome, and I will not be taking the offered refund as this was exactly what I hoped to accomplish by requesting it.
Thanks for listening to what we had to say and glad to be sticking with the game.

Players will be able to convert their 4-player group to an 8-player group similarly to how World of Warcraft’s group to raid conversion works. With a click of a button, a group leader can convert a 4-player group to 8-players and invite 4 more players to the group. There is a limitation to this however. If the group leader decides to convert to an 8-player group, they MUST have 8 players in order to launch. (i.e. you cannot launch a game with 5,6 or 7 players). In addition to that, your 8-player group will be matched to another 8-player group ONLY. This does reduce the change of finding a match quickly but at the same time 8-players teams will finally be matched to other 8-player teams exclusively.
Now wait a damn minute. So you are saying the "solution" to matchmaking is to completely **** on folks who run in smaller groups bigger than a single lance? Once we go OB, I have several friends I had planned to form up with, and among us are some heavy-duty roleplayers that like to take our TOE seriously - we are Comstar/Blakists at heart, which fits just about perfectly with the fact that there are 5-6 of us expecting to play together on a regular basis.
And don't give me that "well pick up some new folks" line, the guys I plan to roll with are folks I have known IRL for quite some time, and we all know each other well enough not to get offended when we start smack talking each other midmatch. I have little patience to have to start expending time in filtering through however many "new recruits" just to get up to a mandatory 8 members, and like hell am I going to be forced into playing the "Raid Time Schedule" ******** I had to deal with through EQ1, EQ2, and WoW.
Few things have made me mad at the route the developers have been taking, this has definitely jumped to the top of the chart.

- Communicating with your stakeholders (project management definition, not financial)
- Laying out a basic roadmap
- Acknowledging obvious issues and widely held concerns
- Formatting communication in a concise and humour-free manner
As opposed to:
- Lack of communication
- Trite jokes
- Avoiding addressing widely held concerns
Most of the forum dissent of the past week could have been avoided with clearer, earlier communication about obvious issues.

Seriously, thanks for the headsup and letting us know that we are being heard. I will admit that I have been one of the people talking down about the open beta idea, as well as the premium time issue (even though, at this point, I don't have any).

Sarge came up with a better idea the other night, and it went something like this:
-group of 4 or less, you go to the random pool.
-group of 5 or more, you go to the vs other groups pool.
fill in the blanks with randoms - I would like to modify this, with randoms in NON trial mechs, even though some of them are deadly in the right hands, and a lot of custom loadouts (especially mine) are downright useless.
This is better then what phase 1 proposes. Makes everybody happy : pugs and premades.
