This may just be wishfull thinking, but how soon will IS names for Clan Mechs go the way of the "Toad"?

"Toad" used to be the IS name for the Elemental battle armor. ;)

I don't mind most of the IS nicknames, but the words "Puma" and "Black Hawk" are not spoken at my table.

I make it a point to always use the Sphere denomination for Clan 'Mechs and Omnis; they're just what feels right for me, seeing as I've grown up with MechWarrior 3 and 4.

We here in the IS will stop using proper designations like mad cat, thor, black hawk or puma when clanners are no longer test tube babies with delusions of being a 'master race'.

All of which would make the RPing clanners among us scream "Free birth!"

You know Most people Missed Mechwarrior 1 and 2. I Got to play two and so I learned a few of the names the Clans gave their mechs I have to say The Timberwolf fits its name... the way MW portrays it is like a lone wolf in the woods hunted but not out classed. The IS name while WRONG! Is understandable... simple as they are they thought Catapult with arms that kills us. I can live with that, HOWEVER I do feel the Maddog is better named the Vulture.. I like the idea of the Maddog standing over their wasted mechs below on a canyon floor like a vulture smiling over its kill! Anyway may the freebirth mechs lay in piles!

Frankly, I could care less what the IS calls Clan mechs. They do not know the real names at the time of the invasion so lore-wise it makes sense. Besides, the less the IS knows about the Clans unique dialect the greater an advantage using it will be.

The only clan mech I know of where the clans use the IS name is the Cauldron Born because that went around faster then it's clan name "Ebon Jaguar". Plus Cauldron Born sounds better anyways.

Free birth and proud of it. Real warriors aren't designed in a tube they're born in battle.

And they don't go bad after a couple decades. Y'all gotta trust age more, give ya wisdom.

OT: I doubt you'll ever see IS names go away, too many of 'em just sound so much cooler than the Clan names IMO.

lookj at the loadout of the Mad Cat-C and you understand where it got its name: 2 ERPPC and 2 ERML in the arms, 2 LRM-15s in the shoulders, and an Ultra AC/5 in the torso. Its a Marauder, and a Catapult. a MAD CAT

Actually Myndo Waterly and crew called it a Mad Cat because it literally looks like a Catapult with Marauder legs and arms. I also think Phelan Kell's targetting system kept ping-ponging between the two when trying to identify it.

I'm a Spheroid to the core, but the name 'Timber Wolf' is way more badass than 'Mad Cat.' Mad Cat just sounds so dumb, now if it was a Madcap I'd like it more.
