Clans haven't started the party yet, at least we're not invited for now.

Wait till March and you'll get your precious. :)

I'm an IS pilot and I hate the IS designations for the Clan Mechs. I think it depends on how you were introduced to MechWarrior. I began with MechWarrior 2. Ergo, I use Clan names for Clan Mechs.

I'm going to yell MAD CAT when one is on the other team. But I'm going to say I'm driving a Timber Wolf.

But for most part I'm accustomed to the clan names because my introduction to BattleTech was MW2.

I never played MW 1/ 2, so I was never exposed to the correct name until much later, but even having grown up with the "Mad Cat", I now refer to it as the Timber Wolf, and have for a few years. Why? Because it's correct, and this is from someone who would side with the IS over the Clans.

the only clan mechs I use the clan designation for are the hellbringer and the fire moth, cause loki sounds ********, and I can never remember the fire moth's IS name...

A Nissan Maxima is a Nissan Maxima, a Ford Taurus is a Ford Taurus, and a Timberwolf is a Timberwolf. To me, those who take to calling it something it is not always signified ignorance, either willful or accidental. Same goes for the other Clan to IS names. Even with the Ebon Jaguar, a mech whose official clan name was unknown to most clanners until quite some time after its deployment, I would never willingly call the Cauldron Born as I know what it is really named.

Yup, this here. My first BT game where I actually got into the naming conventions etc was Mechcommander, so I'm comfortable with the IS designations. It also makes huge sense from a lore perspective (how the hell should they know what this never-before-seen mech is named). I fancy myself a Inner Sphere Mechwarrior, and I can't believe how angry some people get about what I call a mech. I'll call it a Mad Cat, you can call it a Timber Wolf, it's flavorsome in my opinion, and it isn't the end of the world.

I guess its like the Cold War...Soviet submarines had NATO designations...

IE: Delfin was the soviet name, and DELTA was the Western designation, so I guess that that is where BT based the different designations, to be more realistic perhaps ?

It just drives me nuts to see Clan mechs referred to with the lame inner sphere designations. Have any of you actualy played Battletech? You know on a tabletop with dice, pencils, terrain or hex maps? Sounds like a few of you have, but sadly most of you havent. The game was SO boring until the Clans showed up and the invasion was the best thing to happen to the inner sphere. Too bad Tukkayid (however its spelled) turned out the way it did. Its not a fenris, its an Ice Ferret. Its not a vulture its a Mad Dog. And its not a mad cat its a TIMBERWOLF! I look forward to the Clan Invasion, the dirty ignorant freebirths of the inner sphere wont know what hit them.

you honestly think that clan mechs are going to faceroll IS mechs? maybe if IS was still restricted to primarily level one tech. with the wide availability of t2 tech in the current game, the clans tech advantage has been drastically reduced. even ignoring that, the high heat in this game is going to significantly nerf the clan's advantage in firepower (aka you aren't going to be hitting much harder, if at all, than an IS mech of equivalent tonnage. take the nova, if it can fire more than 2 alphas without shutting down, I will be impressed, 9 medium lasers produce 36 heat for 45 damage, 12 er mediums will produce 72 heat for 84 damage.36 heat on my 4p with 19 double heatsinks (the nova probably won't be able to fit more than a couple more due to weight) is about 56% heat with masteries, assuming 24 doubles on a nova ( max I could use on SSW (solaris skunkworks) while still maintaining the prime config though I did drop the jump jets if you keep them you lose a few heat sinks) 71.52 on the nova plus 7.152 heat per second lost. my 4p has 63.12 heat and 6.312 hps. you would overheat every alpha strike, which even a few seconds of disruption in the open could potentially kill you, especially since clan tech would probably be the number one target, even more so than ECM due to what advantages it has left (range is much less useful due to the way the maps are set up.)

sorry about the ramblingness in this, but I was writing during a short break and do not have time to clean this up too much.

Warhawk.

Seriously, with minimal knowledge of Japanese, those "Kurita" names sound cheesy as hell. Hatamoto-Chi the worst offender.

That said, the "proper" names for IS pilots are the Mad Cat and so forth, so I'll stick with that. Not into that aff aff neg wolf wolf stuff.

The Day the Mitsubishi A6M is called Mitsubishi A6M when spotted in a Computergame
i will call a Timber Wolf a Timber Wolf in MWO.

So i guess i will stick with MAD CAT and Daishi.

And Ryoken is a very good name for a fast hard hitting Mech. (meaning Hound, Gundog )

Ryoken... "hound", 猟犬?

Well, that makes sense, but I always thought the guys who made the mech just kitbashed something like "Demon* Sword" (魎剣) or something like that in half-correct Japanese...

Curious: do you have a source on that "hound" translation, or is it your own interpretation?
