Touhou 13.5 just got announced. New fighting game with apparently a brand new engine as well.

Still love Dodonpachi but it is more arcade shooter than actual severe bullethell like Touhou.

Ehm... You do understand that Shoot 'em ups/Danmaku games are a genre, right? It's like saying all FPS's are a rip off of DOOM. Though Touhou most certainly wasn't the first game that brought the idea of a character, rather than a space ship into the genre.

The new Touhous don't have music half as good as the old ones though... EoSD, PCB and IN are amazing in that respect. MoF has a couple decent ones... but GFW has few to no songs I'm half-interested in.

I want to say that has more to do with nostalgia, but I think there are standouts in the later games such as Lullaby of a Forgotten Hell and Emotional Skyscraper are ones that immediately come to mind. I also am really fond of the music that comes from the fighting games.

subterranian animism had a few good ones, Satori Maiden ~ 3rd eye, Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom and lullaby of a forgotten hell. (the three I liked)
Then UFO had Captain Murasa and Emotional Skyscraper.
Ten desires had.... I kinda liked the final boss theme...

Yeah I'd say the music is going downhill. It's still good.... just not the remembrable quality of the older games.

Subterranean animism had one outstanding one to me... Nuclear Fusion.

And the stage theme for when you go down the underground street or something. Stage 3 I think.

I don't really like Ten Desires at all. Music wise it feels a bit cliched. Gameplay wise... the bullets keep changing direction randomly, it becomes almost a luck game in certain cases trying to avoid it. Bullets coming from multiple directions is hard, curving bullets are hard, but randomly redirecting bullets are just... not fun. Hoping the next one will return to the glory of PCB/IN.

When in doubt, bomb. It might save you that continue.

Yup I know, she's an asthmatic.

But it'd be nice get a little health buff. Her zoning game is pretty good though, but I still get nailed by a good Aya player.

AAAAACtually, the game in which the genre is typically thought to have come into its own was Wolfenstein 3D. It was also released by ID back in 1992 and is hilariously about shooting Nazis, pretty much like every FPS we had during the early 2000's

Discovered this. If you haven't already, VSYNC patch your EOSD and PCB.

I can actually play Insane difficulty on EOSD now. Can't beat it yet, but at least Marisa doesn't keep sticking her face into bullets.

I'm still working on 1ccing IN on normal. I've done it on easy with all the teams. I can't remember if I've done it with everyone singly though. On normal, I hit start hitting trouble at Keine, then worse with Reimu/Marisa, then I get to Reisen and she mops the floor with me with her bulletspam and hypno-eyball powers (ENOUGH DAKKA!). So far I've not beaten any of the other games. It's only been recently that I was able to beat Orin in SA. I made it to Utsuho, but couldn't get past her second spellcard.

I need to practice more. A lot more.

So many bullets....

Once you have mastered it, you can subconsciously dodge rain when walking outside. Thus eliminating the need for an umbrella.
