Im on a dual 2.0 with 4gigs of ram and have a 9800GT graphics card. The mods here that people post really helped with the performance of my machine for the game. When I first started I could hardly move around. Now I can sometimes get closer instead of being a LRM boat.

I take it with buying mech you can pay with C-bills or MC they give you 2 different options? Do you need both or one or the other as I have not purchased anything yet? I have to be in a bigger mech as running in lights lags me out a little. I am thinking about getting a hunchback. I have around 3.8 million cbills, but I am kind of undecided right now.

Ah ha! I started out in the Beta with a core 2 Duo (E8400), 8 gigs of old DDR2 RAM, and a GeForce 9800GT!!! It was a challange, I'll say that. Since then the game has ben tweaked to support Core 2 Duo CPU chips a little better... but I have to say that getting a new gfx card (GeForce 560GTX) and a Core 2 Quad processor (Q9300), but using my same old motherboard, HDD, and RAM, has literally changed the face of the game for me. That, and my computer runs a lot faster now, too!
Welcome to the Game... there are so many things we'd like to show you...

Welcome to the most current virtual incarnation of the war for supremacy in the Inner Sphere. Nice to hear you like what you have seen so far - chances are it is only going to get better! If all goes well, we will have a big new patch tomorrow, and people are anxiously waiting for new toys to fiddle with in their mechbay.
As far as battlemechs are concerned, I would recommend trying out all the Trial Mechs as long as you are unsure. They are supposed to rotate every now and then, so that you will be able to attain more experience with the various models before committing to one. The biggest question is how you would envision your role in combat, however, meaning what sort of gameplay you think is most enjoyable. Long range support, brawling, hit&run, scouting, escort ... many of these tasks are possible with more than a single weight class, but very different in tactics and equipment, and thus gameplay experience!
Regarding your computer, I would say getting an upgrade for your hardware is only a matter of time. There is no need for haste, but perhaps something to look forward to in the new year? Also it would not have to be the most current equipment. My own machine is 2-3 years old by now, but runs MWO like a charm, so keep an eye out for good upgrades that are not as expensive. As Prosperity Park mentioned, it may well be worth it for even more enjoyment of the game.
See you on the battlefields, and a preliminary merry christmas to you and your family - or, as we in the Draconis Combine say, merii kurisumasu!

Please make sure to avail yourself of the many forum resources that can be found in the stickies and the helpful community.
Battletech/Mechwarrior can be daunting when you first approcah it, however, its a very diverse, deep , lore filled franchise. I hope you have fun and feel free to ask questions!
Cheers.

Would any of these processors be good? Also, is changing a processor like changing the memory? I know with installing a graphics card you have to shut off your integrated graphics. Is it the same with changing a processor? WOuld I need to change anything or just take out the old and put in a new one?
