I have fond memorys of stacking multiple LBXs or AC's or even ditching it all and going all MGA's (machine gun arrays).
I was pleasantly surprised with how fast it cut stuff down with all MGA's....fun fun fun

Basicly people who can't get Atlases, my fondness for it comes from a Table Top game, we playing a militia unit and we captured it from Pirate raiders.
I ended up piloting it because I lost my enforcer taking it down, and while I griped and moaned about it, I came to really like the machine. There nothing quite as satisfying as taking down a supposedly superior mech like an Atlas or Stalker down with a supposedly inferior Banshee.
And yes I took down both of these in the underrated Banshee. The trick is you have to either commit to a long range sniper duel or get in their face and go for a melee close combat battle.
The other point I was making was that the Banshee is a great place to plunk your commander. Part of the reason it makes a good command mech is that people don't tend to target it, I've lost track of the number of games were my commander was riding the biggest baddest mech in the force and when down quickly because they were a massive target. As an added bonus it's preferred position as a sniper means that your commander isn't mixed up in a close combat battle when he should be commanding.
In table top games I now tend to run my commanders in fast well armoured mediums or very heavily armoured long range assaults and heavies. It's the same reason why Jamie Wolfe and Morgan Kell Pilot the Archer.
And to my mind the Banshee is on par with an archer, so all up not great mech but not a bad mech either.

Not directly applicable to MW-O, where there's a lot less melee combat. But it has a place in my heart after that moment.

Devastator was AFAIK introduced 3058, I wouldn't be too thrilled seeing a "downgrade" appearing 10 years earlier(and the Twin-Gauss Variant just wouldn't be fair against AS7-D)

Devastator came close though.

Because it packs an Xtra Liable engine? You lose any of your torsos and you're done. The ANH has a very similar range profile with its 4 LB 10-X ACs. The ammo presents a similar danger if the sides are exposed/destroyed, but it's not a guaranteed destruction. It also packs 4 MLas. It's much slower, I admit, but looks so much cooler. The King Crab packs some crazy firepower, but its very short-ranged.
...not sure why the Imp is on here, what with being a Clan design and all...

EDIT: Why the Banshee BNC-3E? Because if I have only one option told three ways, I'll pick the most detailed one!

Not sure about Nightstar either. It's a relevant 'mech for the general period of clan invasion, but it might be one of those that gets into production in '50 or '51 or so. Anyway, the 'mech suggestions are undoubtedly coming directly from Randall Bills, so if he says there is only Banshee available then there is only Banshee available.
Actually it says the Nightstar started production again as early as 3036 so Nightstar should be an option, not to mention that it was produced in both halves of the FedCom and very popular. It's nearly equal to the Devastator at medium range.

Dunno where that sarna date comes from, but the Nightstar entry in TRO 3058 doesn't say anything about any production prior to the Clan Invasion.

In contrast, the more ambiguous one allows for greater customization. Maybe.
