Fission Chips.

After a character in a Robert Anton Wilson book.

Edit: My current handle is based on a short lived but rather, erm, eccentric character in a tabletop battletech game.

Hey Logan,

Well first, the question was, and I could have been more precise in my asking, "Of the many semi-auto rifles chambered in either .308 or 7.62, which rifle do you like for long range?" (FAL, M1A/M14, LR-308 etc...)

That being said, the civilian .308 and the Nato 7.62 are very similar mostly interchangeable but most definitely not the same thing. The NATO round has a much thicker case wall. Also the shoulder of the case is shaped a little different. When a .308 is in a rifle chambered for a 7.62, there is a very small gap in the shoulder that the case has to expand into when fired. So basically, yeah they're interchangeable, though some rifles may run into extraction problems, and if you're using reloaded ammo, you're more likely to have cases split on you if you switch .308 cases between the .308 and 7.62 chambers.

Here's a couple articles
http://www.thegunzone.com/30cal.html
http://www.303british.com/id36.html

Anyhow, you got a favorite.308/7.62? I'm shopping and leaning towards a Springfield M1A.

I opted for the AR-10.

I think my first callsign for MW was 'Phoenix,' and I've generally used some variation of that or 'Dragon' ever since.

I change my nick in every other game altho there is one nick that seemed stuck upon me, so much that even my RL friends will call/refer to me by that nick instead of my real name

My first: Mechanoid from game "Mech Minds" (literal translation) or "A.I.M." (official allowed translation).
After too much flood in team voice comm i was renamed to muha-noid (muha is "Fly" the insect).

Havoc, but someone else in the lobby had it, so I exited MercPPP, thought for a few seconds, and came back in with }{avoc.

Been that ever since the late '90s. Changed it when some lame *** games (read: MMORPGs) wouldn't allow special characters to Havyek.
MPBT:3025 it was DC_Havoc (no special characters in that game either).

Hells yes!

You must be shooting some crappy AK hodged together by cheap unskilled labour from used, missmatched, imported parts and a junky US made reciever then. A proper AK-47 pattern rifle is accurate in semi auto mode out to about 300m.

The G-36 is the most overrated rifle in the world. It is just a Stoner AR-18 with plastic thrown on. I don't think it can do anything that an AR can't do.

Barrett M-82 series is nice for throwing rounds (Money?) down range, but for precicion work I would take a McMillan TAC-50.Posted Image

Honorable mention for pure cool'ness factor: EDM Arms Windrunner 50. Yes the Barrel detaches and the entire rifle fits in that case.

Maybe so, it was just a personal preference. As for the G-36 being the most overrated rifle in the world, it's debatable, but I would not want to derail this thread by doing that. And I wasn't talking about a junky something or other, I was talking about the ones actually produced in Russia, the standard version, which even the Taliban, and AQ have access to. It doesn't have a great accuracy to it's name, though, maybe one of the later improvements improved upon this, if so then forgive my ignorance, as I did not know.

for all the gun guys here i own.

4 FAL rifles
3 AK rifles...soon to add AK74
2 Mausers
3 Mosin-Nagant

and a bunch of assorted other goodies along with reloading a lot of ammo. i have a saying...FAL's are like potato chips...just one won't do.

I had a few but Ulric Kell was really the first one I began using actively. We had our own Solaris system in Mech Commander 1 and all had clan/house names.

I never really bothered with call-signs and used a short version of my true name or stuck with the default player profile name in what ever game I played. That pretty much all changed when I experienced my first LAN party, what also happened to be Mech Warrior 2.

Not exactly sure if I picked it myself or it was given to me by friends all I know is that I used the Timber Wolf a lot . It was than that I started using the Call-Sign "Wild Cat" and I'm still using it to this day when ever it's available.

Actually, now that I think about it... My first one was FlameRider35, not Black Arrow. Plus it's still the one I use in most places including Xbox Live.
