if you really wanted to be more vague you would have done this

and wouldnt u expect a custom mech to have decals instead of just being a paintjob.

anyways you are showing new customers some of the worst problems/oversight in original Btech lore from the getgo. i'm glad we got this out of the way though.

There are plenty of chinese japanese culture mixing throughout the rest of battletech.

There is still time for change before it goes live... it'd be super awkward to have to change it after people have bought it with real money

Will we ever see this bad boy with useable claws (or hatchet) and TSM?

I'm glad we've at least gotten a response on this. Yeah, it's canon, but... just apply all the same arguments to whoever designed it back then. What changes?

Just fix the offset and center the sunburst.

That switches it from the Japanese naval ensign to the Imperial Japanese Army's war flag. Not exactly an improvement!

I just hope we will be able to repaint the YLW. i like the AC20 in a cent, but i dont like bright garish colors :)

If only there was another Centurion variant that could mount an AC/20...

I posted this on the other thread:

Listen, to whom it may concern(PG) - (because in the end it doesn't really offend any of us on a personal level) games have previously gotten in trouble for having insensitive content in their games.

It doesn't matter if it happened a long time ago, it doesn't matter what our personal opinion on the matter is, the only fact is that it's wrong. You can't hide behind enough lore to say it's okay to have a version of the Japanese flag on a Chinese mech when people in China are rioting right now (ongoing) over the Senkaku Islands dispute, it's going to offend someone and you'll never hear the end of it.

The skin is okay, there's nothing wrong with it. But the skin is currently tied ONLY to a Chinese mech.

You can listen to us and put that skin up on the store and change the YLW skin to something more appropriate or you can just let it go and gamble to see if you get any negative media on Kotaku or other news site that don't care if they stir up controversy on your behalf.

Doesn't matter to me or others, we're just here to warn you guys of the consequences. Personally? I don't care, but I do like this game and the least amount of negative publicity you get, the better.

Stick with the paint scheme. If some commie Chinese get angry, well they can suck it.

Besides, traditionally white and red are the Buddhist colors of life, and what better contrast than to paint a mech in white and red only to have it named after the Chinese god of death?

You guys are driving me nuts. :(

The paint scheme on Yen-Lo Wang is a CANON paint scheme. We did not mistakenly stick a somewhat Japanese related emblem on a Chinese named Mech. We just kept the color from the stories/miniatures/trading cards/TT etc etc etc.

And before you start waiving your torches around, we will be releasing some new info on the other hot topics. This one was personally grating on me.... so there! :D

- Paul

BTW: I am Japanese and am very well aware of the slight oversight of the original design but we kept it since it was canon.

Whatever.

We call them 'eggrolls' when we see them. Close enough to 'Yen-Lo'.

You're right, those Buddhist colors really do fit the Yen Lo Wang.

Even if it's bad, I don't want to hear any whining until those of Irish heritage complain about the "Fighting Irish" drunken leprechaun mascot, the of Italian heritage complain about Mario stereotyping Italians, and those of English heritage complain about the fact that the only people in StarWars with British accents are baddies.

People just need to get over it.

After brutally pulverizing a dead horse on a previous thread about this I don't feel compelled to reiterate my arguments.

However I would like to point out that though the art direction on battletech was horrible about mixing the two cultures(YLW, the house liao symbol) the novels(at least all the michael stackpole ones that i've recently re-read) were pretty decent about differentiating the two cultures, the two houses that represent them, and the people living under their regimes.

and just to get one last kick on that horse in, saying that it's cannon makes it no better. It's about public perception and with the current chinese-japanese tensions I would be surprised if there wasnt a reaction to this from the chinese living in china. On the other thread someone posted a link to kotaku about how chinese gamers protested a chinese mmo that had the exact same symbol on a wall inside the game.(i know its ridiculous but this is a reality for any company that wants to expand their business to foreign markets). Lets see which should pgi value more, money and public perception or a cannon paint job?

edit- sry i could not help myself :D

Because people living across the galaxy in the 31st century fighting in giant robots should be politically sensitive to us mere mortals living on Earth in the 21st century... :D

I didn't realize people across the galaxy in the 31st century were buying this game.

That would be silly. It will be a red, white, and blue art deco rendering of Little Boy: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Little_Boy

edit: pssst, PGI, if you offend everyone, it's not racist! And I'm not just saying that because the skin I just described would look really cool.

Like I said PG, you can either take our advice or just ignore it and see what happens. But Kotaku is full of vultures just flying around and waiting for an opportunity to stir up trouble. So if and when they bring this up, don't say we didn't warn you.

Again, I repeat - me and others don't care one way or another, just trying to look out for you.
