A long, long time ago...
Playing under the same name as this one on the 3056 muse. 1st FWL Guards, which was a mainly european unit so we were actually awake around the same time. (And then there were the faction-wide meetings, starting at 3am my time).

I still remember sitting at home, using a 1200 baud modem, which meant that a full map took 10 seconds of loading time. It would be great to see the old names back.

Hah. Nikolay Smith, here. Cool to see a bunch of names I recognize. Played those sites on and off from the original Battletech MUSE. Honestly, with the addition of THUD, that was literally the best gameplay experience I ever had.

Were those sites frustrating at times? Sure, but mostly because I wasn't as good as everyone else. The way the system was set up made learning hard, at times, and none of the sites (well, most of them) were casual-friendly.

That said, a LOT of the basic ideas would fit perfectly into the vision of MWO. I look forward to fighting (and getting blown up by) old hands from the btech MU**.

Have to say, while I was on some MUSHes (and tried a couple MUDs) Battletech/Mechwarrior was one thing I never thought to look up a game for. The giant robots I was into then were the transforming kind, and the games I played a lot were more social RP then combat based. But I do remember them, and it was one thing an old IBM PS/1 and 14.4kbps modem could handle without any trouble.

Even more old school, I also used to play Legend of the Red Dragon on a BBS back in the day. ^_^

Oh wow. A few names I remember.

Specifically AJ and VP. Nice to see you guys again. Hope you remember Loch ^_^

I remember my first time ever RS, I newbed by broadcasting our main freq on zfreq. DOH.

My first mech was a Clint which I promptly hexed off a bridge and engine critted it.

Some of my best times on the internet are from that time. It's where I learned to type. Before THud, that is.

I would be interested in a merc group staffed by old Muxers.

I see some familiar names/faces.

I used to play Alaric on '56 in CSV (hey Galavon, remember me?).

I also played a bunch of the others as well. Pretty excited about MW Online so if a merc unit gets together, count me in!

Holy Cow.
Bunch of old names I recognise here.
I played most of the MU*'s back in the day. Went by "Ash", "Fey" or "Galen" most of the time.
Might look into the one that was listed as up earlier in the thread.

Hello! I was on btech3056 in Clan Ghost Bear as Xela. I usually piloted a VTOL or Aeromech, the 5 ton Ferret or the 100 ton Kirghiz. I never managed a safe landing in that last one and only occasionally hit anything, aiming was pretty difficult when you need a considerable speed to stay in the air. I loved the Ferret. Flying the Ferret was a lot more fun. It was a lot more effective than the Kirghiz, at least! Ok, it only had a mg as armament so fighting in it resembled more a game of tag than anything but dropping a few elementals on a mech or giving coordinates to a Long Tom was fun. And the memory of toppling an Atlas after giving it a point blank headshot is still priceless! (Ok, that happened only once, usually when I tried something like that I was swatted out of the air... ;-)

Every so often I tried out a tank, too but as someone (from Rhonda's Irregulars?) once pointed out: I've seen mechs jump up and down on a tank often enough but never the other way around.

I loved the complexity of the Muse. I even got a pack of Fasa Mech recognition flashcards so I could quicly see what I was up against, even when I already had the miniature game. I was briefly on some other servers, too, but they held little appeal to me. I can vaguely remember one with large mobile fortresses where the mechs and other vehicles operated from.

how about Mechwarriors United eXecutive

Mobile Ultimate Support Hussars

or, something more just 'blast from the past', like the Varxsys Vigilantes, or the Bryant Battlegroup

Wow, so many names that sound so familiar! I played when I was younger back in high school on 3034/3035 and eventually Varxis. I wasn't very original so I went by the name "Franklin Sakimoto", from the old BattleTech cartoon. After graduating from training, I was assigned a Harasser hovertank and started going by the name "Zoom". Something about flying at .s 160 (someone else that mentioned the JEdgar knows what I mean) really made my blood rush. Every once in a while I would smack right into the face of a mountain however and need a tow back to base. Good times! I look forward to seeing what MWO has to offer.

I played btech3056 ;) God that was fun back in the day. I was Daena Leigh, Clan Nova Cat. I remember the most fun time in the game was getting my Bloodname. I had no idea I would so so well. I was so scared of dying during it too, but it all worked out.

So many fun battles we had back then

Also played on some game called Buckminster which had amazing battles too.

Hey there, blast from the past and present.
Game name over MU* was Yakko aka Dechan Fraser and also ran WD as Jaime Wolf on 3056.
Also more widely known as Jazz via 3030.

I was in WD during that time as Joseph Clavell. I remember you well. You actually sat in on my ToP. Can't believe I remember that.
