Mechanized Urban Security Element

Origin might have been one company of an old garrison regiment on some backwater world. The regiment gets dissolved when that world rebels or the government collapses or... something. The core MUSE pilots stuck together for 20 years and have become a solid, if aging, merc unit :D

(Muse... ahhhh -- Butterflies and Hurricanes anyone?)

Angel/Scipio/Kelly/etc.

Come to think of it Angelicon if you have read the back story for the Night Stalkers regiments in House Kurita that would really fit the theme you're going for there. Its full of retirees who don't want to quit fighting.

Our motto can be, "Pay me? I do this **** for free!"

well, we are certainly aging these days :)

when the game launches, it will have been 19 years since I first strapped myself in a FLC-8R in a Davion Sim Bay and killed 3 opfor mechs in my first actual battle, after learning the basics of move and combat in a Locust back in 1993. All within 4 hours of signing in to 3056 for the first time. It helped that I played the Boardgame before this.

within an hour of that battle, I was in charge of the MI-6 mech unit, a 7 mech force designed for deep raids.

Well obviously I am late to this party.

(What? No tanks? And none in MWT? What the hell am I going to drive?)

I like the Varxsys Vigilantes... but I may ressurect my clan Shimmen no Samurai from Exile 3029 :D Just need to find the old crew: Ood, xtc, anger and all of those feglores. Oh the memories of politics and youthful social skills (or lack thereof).

Btw, I saw Belldandy in this thread. Never to be seen out of the repair bay unless it was a salvage op in a htow.

hi Nick.

I guess 'Varxsys Vigilantes' is a good operating name for the Merc unit, assumingt everyone here reports back in when the game starts.

Wow, glad I got pointed to this thread. Not sure if I remember a lot of you but some names seem familiar, getting older and all that.

Roboute Guilliman for a long time, but I believe I started in DC on 3030? Kyvn Starkiller or something like that? That was my first one, anyway.

Then there was the one with the crawlers? You guys remember that? That's when I switched to RG, and I think I was Kung Pow on the arena style one where you bought your way up the mech ladder.

Anyone who never played these games really missed out.

Clay

I definitely remember you as Roboute Guilliman... wow, so many names in this thread I haven't seen in so long. I used to go by Pytr Valiance, alias pv(Not to be confused with vp... but I seem to remember some people did). I haven't played in 10+ years... I'm still in occasional contact with rgr, gc and Imac. Imac tried to get me playing again a while back, logged on and said hi to a couple people, but the new graphical maps and such got me all screwy trying to re-learn the controls.

Kinda crazy thinking back... I was 12 or 13 when I started playing on 3058(The Periphery based one) I believe... good times. From the looks of it, some of the people here were schooling my newb butt 14 years ago. Not trying to make anyone feel old, but... just saying.

May as well sign in on this thread as well as I have on the other MUSE threads.

I was Ishido Kagei on 3056 and Retsudo Kagei on 3034: Battle for Bryant. Draconis Combine, naturally. Awesome games. Spent far too much time playing them. :) 3034 is where my love for the Phoenix Hawk originated as I piloted that one mech throughout the life of that game.

Heh. I remember me and some other DC pilots being bored one day and deciding to go out to burn the DC emblem into a wooded area in Lyran territory. If memory serves it was me in my Phoenix Hawk, Senjian Wolf in his Thunderbolt and Ivanova Kerensky in her Griffin to start with, and then some others joined us on the way. Had the whole thing drawn out in ASCII and mailed to the other pilots so we all knew which hexes to clear the woods from before we headed out. Unfortunately we were interrupted before we could really get started, but the idea was amusing enough at the time. Lyrans spotted us and it turned into a fight. Darn Lyrans interrupting fine art in progress. :D

I loved that game. I tried getting into MU*ing again a few years back, but it just didn't feel the same. Probably because none of the same people I had played with were around anymore as far as I could see.

You guys do realize that a unit of MU* veterans can only result in endless boozeops? ;-)

Started on 3026 in '91, then 3056 in FedCom, in which at the end I pumped out a lot of rooms as Peter_S-Davion, never had a problem with Guzzer tho I could understand others doing so ;-)
Did most of the other MU* till I got mostly immersed in 3030.
Ran out of time to play around the time the graphical clients got better.

Sometimes I do wander around and log into any MU* that is open but haven't piloted a 'Mech in years, either afraid of looking rusty, or of being sucked in again.

I'm pretty sure any unit consisting of mostly MU* veterans is going to have enough "Well, back in my day..." and "I remember when..." rants to make any more recent BTech fan roll their eyes. Because, let's face it, we're all OLD now. :D

Oh wow. A few names I remember.

And some of us haven't forgotten you either Loch. Man this thread brings back so many memories. I muxed I think starting in 98, or 99, I believe 3030/2796/3065 (later some on 'exile' and Frontier) were the first sites I hit. First real space scenario I remember was a Northwind Highlanders Versus Draconis Combine. Fun times, I still have memories of a certain player zero-frequing a tower and then we got chased down. I think my first mech ride there was a Zeus, an Enfield, or a Phoenix Hawk If I recall. Then I was back and forth between sites a bit, not so much 3065. I think the main character handle I used back then was Brett Dixon, with a callsign of Feret or Chord, if memory serves. Man those were such good times.

I also remember serving a lot of 'Home Guard' duty training new comers in the sims so they were ready for their first operations, and then waiting in jail, or running tows for salvage runs.

Oh what fun that was. I probably played from 98 or 99 up to around 2004 or 2005, and then I had to cut it off because I needed a break. Good times for sure.

Nice to see a few names I recognize around here :D

Just found this thread and some old names here that I remember playing with back in the early 90s...

I can't remember all of my names and the names of the various MU*s that came out. Spent most of my time on '56 in the old Kell Hounds.

I played Christian Kell (CKell), Narc (my admin char) and Jorel on the sim sites though I never really got into them.

Good to see so many of us all around - it's been a hell of a long time Yakko....

I'll have to send Zak an email and see if he'll be playing.

well, with the announcement of Beta invites coming soon, who's still around to form the Merc Company of old MUSE pilots?

"Varxsys Vigilantes" or "Mechwarrior United eXecutive"?

I loved 3056 i worked my way up through the 12th VR. What I loved was the skill to process mass amounts of info and still type in commands to your lance. It makes everything since feel slow. I swear there was an adrenaline high playing that game.

All I remember doing on '56 was paperwork to get Explorer Corps up and running :) Had to choose the mechs of the company, attendant vehicles and then try to recruit, I was even given the role of Omi at that point, which was right before the place closed :D All I remember was trying to decide if I was going to pilot the Guillotine or the Grasshopper. In the end I think the Guillotine ended up being my chosen ride.
