I do hope physical attacks and ecm get added soon when I watch those trailers. Nothing got you adrenaline pumping so fast going into a base/walled area and not knowing if there were Mechs hidden behind the wall waiting to punch your head off, or kick the leg off your Jenner.

On the name front, we could use one of the old Star Leauge unit names that are listed as unknown in the sourcebook. I would need to check it again, but I do recall the 151st Royal Battlemech Division as one.

The Clan XYZ sourcebooks are great for obscure names like that... the unit listing go off mentioning heritage down to the lance/company level for a lot of them....

Which stories were they, the zit ones? I had a few others... let say my colllege years were... interesting... I did live though and graduate... somehow.

3065 is still running, but no one playing really. It a revival of the old 3065 sim site Tarien/tji used to run (the old web site is still up http://btech.home.xs4all.nl/ Darn we look young) The addy is btmux.com 3065. I *think* I am still a wizard on there but cant remember my password. Didn;t matter anyways as I didn;t know any of the wizzen commands and none of the other wizzen would tell me any of them. I *knew* @nuke, but they disabled it after I tried it out a few times.... Oh, @Ard works!!!
Frontiers is still up I think, http://frontiermux.com
3030 may be down...

I think I remember you from 3065, Ard! Those were the times... Any of the old crew around? Mojo, Valkyre, Frosty, TJI, Cyn?

Things are shaping up. We have a good group of folks forming up and the site is slowly coming together.

We also went ahead and got a 25-person TeamSpeak 3 server and will bump it up as needed.

Even if you are playing other games, welcome to hang out and chat while we gather more folks.

I'm Null from Exile 3029/Frontier/etc.., AKA Dezgra Jacun.

I don't know about you guys, but all I remember about Battletech MU*'s are thousands of hours over a decade programming in C/Softcode till I bled just to +bbread a bunch of you wanting more. :D

Surely you must have some vaugue memories of running around the maps in small, very fast units harrasing the crap out of people. :) SRP FTW.

I was looking forward to this game, but this thread as me more excited now.

Just call it MUX - and dont tell what it stands for. could be anything.

'Mercenary Unit eXpendable' perhaps?

Apt description given how some Houses thought of mercs. Also fits the old mech jock angle as well for that matter.

You can put me down for the group, possibly with a +1.

Flashbacks. Lots of old familiar names on this thread. I went by Louie or Swapmeet or some variation of that handle. Minor role-player on 3056. Didn't do any development work, but just enjoyed the game. It's amazing that the game-play mechanics that were used on the Btech MU*'s 15 years ago are commonly found in modern MMORPG's. We had guilds, community content, persistent worlds, ranks, raids, PvP, in-game economies, etc. There were huge worlds that were built entirely by the community. I vaguely remember an academy of some sort. You had to pass scenarios to become active in your faction or merc unit.

I think there was a scenario where you were in a medium mech and had to kite a heavy mech. You had to use a small max range hex difference (2 hexes?) to counter the heavy mech's much more powerful weapons. A higher ranking player would be your instructor and would often pilot the opposing mech. I think I made it up to instructor level and even taught a few newbs myself.

Sign me up for any MU* guild/merc unit.

Ex 3056'er here. Rameus Hazen. But I'll be camping with Davion to start. At least until/if Jade Falcon gets up and running. And, depending on how/if it's implemented and how attached I've grown to my Davion lancemates, may not leave. Looking forward to seeing all you other old fogies in the game tho.

Kel

Excited about a bunch of old geezers getting mowed down by 12 year olds in digital battlemechs? B)

Suicidal Recon Pilot :)

I still like the Goblin on Varx the best. Nothing like a 30 ton mecha with an SRM and PPC and 6/9 with JJ. Panther? bah. Goblin!

Good to see ya kel.

Oh, I remember these, and quite fondly. Mostly played on 3030 and 3050 as Steel Lynx.
