(Edited title, I left a word out!)

I'm an "immersion" addict. I do everything possible to help me get "in character" and really feel like I'm in the game. Presently I'm brushing up on my Battletech history while I wait for open beta =)

On to the point:

It has become fairly standard in FPS games to put a bass punch into gunfire and explosions to really amp things up for those with good sound systems and in particular "bass shakers/butt shakers".

I installed a butt shaker in my mech cockpit chair today and it works fantastic in battlefield 3, but when I watch the (admittedly old) "reboot" trailer I get nothing at all from the gunfire, hits taken, and/or explosions. All I get is a steady rumble throughout the whole thing.

Would it be too hard for the devs to simply add a bass punch where it makes sense (if they haven't already)? AC fire, getting hit, and nearby explosions are where I think it's needed.
In FPS games I can feel the recoil of my gun, and a big boom when a grenade goes off, it's fantastic!
(and only cost me about $50 since I had the necessary amp etc. on hand).
I'm using an "aura" bass shaker from parts express if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the space!

Truly. Very much hoping 5.1 and 7.1 sound is supported. I once took apart an old Aura Interactor vest and used the parts to make an Interactor chair. Worked awesome.

i really dont see them having anything but a complete sound package
it mean, they are nailing every little detail about this game
when i heard the "reactor online, weapons online" from the Atlas drop trailer i had to fight back the tears of nostalgic joy at how perfect it was
to go that far , to get such a minute thing 100% perfect i am sure they will make full use of the crytek3 sound platform

now thats something to note about the videos, they are pre-rendered packages, not as in a non game footage way
but a its had a few passes though compression tools and video editing suites before getting stuffing into you-tube
and you-tube alone is enough, cant say i have ever watched a dolby or dts complete surround sound content on you-tube

so really battlefield 3 sounds so much better is because the game engine is feeding your awesome sound system all the information it needs
where as you-tube is just a stereo down mix of what ever pre-alpha audio they had on those videos

it will be ok im sure

Well my concern was simply that the "bass hit" for butt-kickers might be overlooked since it's not all that common for gamers to have such a thing. Not that many people need it but hopefully it would be extremely simple for the devs to make sure it is there.

This youtube video (I find the guy talking a bit irritating) sets my butt kicker off beautifully when grenades and gunfire go off. Excellent example starting at 9:30 on the gunfire, it feels amazing on my system. I'm hoping for similar effect from MWO =)

Hopefully pics of my setup tomorrow for those who have been waiting. There are a few details to tie up yet but I think it's ready to be seen for the most part.

I have no problem with this, as long as it doesn't cause poor performace for those that don't have a rumble seat.

I intend to grab a set of Razer Tiamat 7.1 headphones just as soon as they come available. If the base kick for rumblers messed up my sound, I'd not be too happy. But if it can be done without messing the sound up for those that don't have such cool tech, more power to you!

how silly. maybe you can install a gun that fires into your face whenever you die in the game.

I'm sure it will work out in the sound department.

I don't have the rumble chair, but I am using a 700 watt 7.1 surround system, so I'm hoping I won't have to upmix my system from the standard 5.1 to 7.1. surround. I'm sure it will still sound good, but a true native 7.1 sound output from the sim will give better positional awareness.

Well, there is a vest available for FPS games that uses compressed air to punch you in the right place when you get shot so you know which direction it came from. I'm actually tempted to save up and buy one. http://tngames.com/products pretty cool tech.

Always nice to hear from you Cinco!

I'm happy to report that today I got the (legit) free version of MW4 from Mektek working and the butt kicker performed beautifully in that game. This gives me high hopes that MWO will work as well or better.

It was dead on what I wanted, I was getting more tactile feedback through the seat than through the force feedback stick! I could feel each step of my mech, nearby explosions, every shot I fired, and every hit I took, it was great!

Make sure you get a return policy with your Razer Taimat 7.1s!!! The Razor Megoladon headset had a bad hissing sound that many could not get rid of.

The Taimat wasn`t released when Razer said it would be (delayed) imho because the Taimat suffers the same hissing issues. Hopefully they work out that problem. Cause I`d like this headset as well.
