Wed. Apr 4, 3049: Second Sword of Light outraged at emerging moderates asking the Second Battalion to discontinue displaying Kentares flag.

They don't have to. It's ok.

We'll make sure to fly it proudly over their graves.

They can continue flying the flag as long as they fly a banner right below it that says "We're Sorry"

The Kentares Massacre is a sore point for the Combine. I doubt challenging that memory in any fashion is looked on favorably in DCMS circles.

The "accepted" story of Kentares massacre is mostly self-serving Davion propaganda anyway. There's even a rumor going around that the event was intentionally instigated by Davion troops. These Davion troops were ordered to dress as civilians and attack Kuritan soldiers in order to provoke violent retribution against the civilian population. Federeted Suns was losing and was desperate to gain some moral ammunition against the DCMS, population of Kentares IV was deemed an acceptable sacrifice.

Assassination of Minoru Kurita happened there as well, but it was apparently not the true cause though admittedly it did fuel the fires quite a bit.

Whenever you find yourself considering your 'Honor' or 'Glory' Snakes, just think back to that day, when the universe saw you for what you really are. Kentares will be avenged!

Even if that's true... killing 90% of a planet's population is a bit drastic.

Pointless genocides are... pointless. :)

We once had to do it. Everyone volunteered to save his own nation, no slaughter of innocent civilians. That's the point in history we got that national pride. Honor to their deaths. :)

DCMS is not bent on glorifying the massacre itself. But there were also actual military actions on the planet during the 1st Succession War, and this is why certain formations get to carry the honours. I see no reason to appease our enemies by stripping troops their battle honours.

Really - so the whole sale slaughter of 90% of a planets population isn't always an atrocity?

BTW, I did some digging and found this paragraph from DC Field Manual that explains the usage of the flag by 2nd Swords:

In addition to the House Kurita crest, the Second Battalion of the Second Sword of Light wears the flag of Kentares IV on it's 'Mechs. Ever since the Second Battalion's participation in the long-ago Kentares Massacre, it's MechWarriors have painted the flag of Kentares IV on the back upper-right torso of their BattleMechs as reminder of their predecessors' willingness to sacrifice their own honor in service to House Kurita and the Draconis Combine.

If they had any honor they would have told the Coordinator to stuff it. Keep in mind folks, Jinjiro didn't just order the executions, he freaking watched them from the comfort of his Mobile HQ like it was an episode of Jersey Shore. The Comstar rep wouldn't have anything to transmit if the crew of that HQ hadn't slipped him a tape of it. They all got shot when Jinjiro found out, but heaven's knows they're the only ones with honor out of that whole unit.

Wow, that's even worse than I thought. So much for "It's from the 1st Succession War guize! No relations!"
