Like many I would love to try and communicate with some of the other people out there, and doubt I would take the effort to connect to a strange TS/Vent server.
In Game would make is much easier. However, I also agree that most likely it would be a feature that be abused.
Cheers.
Do we need ingame VOIP? A poll...

Helmer but the thing of it is this. This game with its role warfare is dependant by its own design on rapid, clear communication between the roles. There are players out there who are polarized for some reason against a 3rd party VOIP and refuse to use them. Not having a built in VOIP at somepoint will hinder rapid and clear communication between all team members. I for one in a major firefight cannot take the time to remove my left hand from throttle quad and right hand from joystick simply out of self preservation. Being forced to waste pre-match time getting onto another voip outside the game is a waste of effort and time. Also, not every single player out there will be using the SAME BLOODY 3rd PARTY VOIP.

Well I'm going to go back to WOT yet once again, it depends on what kind of game your running.
In WOT, you have random battles, Tank Company Battles, Platoons (2-3 people going into the same random battle) and Clan wars.
Clan wars is almost exclusively done on TS or Vent. (BTW I'm one of those with TS, Vent and Skype.
)
For platoons I'll commonly hook up on either TS, or Vent with friends so we can coordinate.
Tank Company battles however are almost exclusively done on ingame voip.
Random groups of people thrown together that need to work together to win, that don't have time to hook up to someones TS or Vent server.
Also while I may not use ingame voip often, when I get into a situation where I'm trying to help someone new, and or text just isn't working, I thank god we have it.
As to shutting down comms between other players, even if you kill all voip, you'll still have guys using second computers to communicate, or landlines, or cell phones. And if you do shut down all comms, then those who cheat have a definate advantage.
Leave ingame voip for now, once we have beta released and your getting ready for full release, then is the time to relook if ingame voip is needed, wanted, desired.
In game VOIP may be a pain (hence it must be able to be muted) but its value can be huge in some situations.

My computer will have a hard enough time running the game as it is, let alone running anything else in the background. So I hope there will be a inbuilt system.
Not to mention it will reduce the hassle of organising players to use the right program, not everyone will run the same programs.

What do you mean by that?
Cromhounds was a X360 title, the radar / coms worked as follows..
A commander Mech had a radar modual, all team mates inside the range were able to use X360 VOIP / see friends / enemies on radar, when you leave the radar range, you lose both IFF and VOIP.
Capturing static comm towers would create team controlled radar areas.
In premades games we all would join skype on laptops and not have to bring a commander mech.
Spooky, this is why I am against make VOIP a gameplay integrated system.

There are many good alternatives as opposed to an ingame VOIP, and I expect most hardcore / semi-serious clans and players to use those. Then again, I've got nothing against the idea per se, I just hope they don't 'waste' time on implementing this if that time is required elsewhere. I voted for option 3.

anybody who has a webcam has a mic so an ingame VOIP would not be a waste. it may make the team aspect better as better communication leads to more strategic battles rather than just degrading into a slug fest
