Because the old thread is currently lost in the Beta Forums and I don't know the link to the download, I am uploading and rewriting the guide. Also - the Guide subforum is dead as a doorknob and this is pretty important to some people.

(Originally made by L etranger.)

Step 1.

Download the .zip file from this link: [Redacted]

Step 2.

Open it in your favorite file extractor: (Windows .zip, WinRAR, 7zip, etc.)

Step 3.

Extract the "Engine" folder to your MWO folder.

Step 4.

Merge it with the "Engine" folder already in there.

Step 5.

Enjoy MWO without the Film Grain!

Just get drunk, the alcohol will balance the fever out.

I thought they removed it already? Cos I do not seem to see that buttugly filmy filter any more... are u sure we still need to do that unzipping thingy so more after Open Beta?

Can someone post some Screenshots before and after application of the zip files?

Thank you OP and supporters to NO UGLY GAMES movement.

Third party apps. Bad. Violate TOS. However, noted. I'll talk to the config guys and see if can be an option!

You took out collisions until they could be fixed properly.

Taking out the "film grain" until it stops hosing visuals would be an excellent quality of life change.

Just tried this. No problems. But not sure I can tell a difference. World looks all the same, however, I think mech models look a lot cleaner for some reason.

I'll have to get some screens and compare.

With all due respect-when this was put out originally, we were told that this would not be a problem. That's the only reason why I (and a lot of others) finally dl'd and used it. I don't recall who actually said this, but I do recall it was a dev who did so.

Now, if I'm mistaken, my apologies. But it did work at the time, and it actually made the maps a lot easier to see on. We were actually able to see all the eyecandy in the game for a change. That's it.

As has already been said, it's not an app, just a texture (.dds) replacement.
