but to appeal to the hypertechnical age of young minds these days, it's gotta be dubstep.

Hi, hypertechnical young mind speaking. I don't like dubstep. Neither do many people I know my age. It's far from ubiquitous.

Clearly MWO needs some Kpop.

I would rather keep the current music than have it switched to dubstep, but i would love to see some heavy metal.

Clearly the 80's metal (that is still freaking everywhere) is horrible for business and the... *ahem* "hypertechnical age of young minds" need to be spoon fed remixed and sampled techno in order to have their attention held? By that logic we might as well use lady gaga, Beiber, "other crap pop sensation" of the month which has far more (unaccountable) popularity than dubstep if we want to appeal to a bigger audience.

To my mind keep it simple make it fit, 80's era music fits teh 80's era theme steeped in the MW franchise but failing that heavy strings, driving base, and a little "meedly meedley meedly WOOOOW" is all we need. Giant *** robots pretty much speak for themselves.

Except the year is now 2012... I'm not against 80's metal but that the music should be 80's like just because the game was created in the 80's is BS.

Part of the theme infused in the battletech universe, the look, the designs these are all derivative of that era. The music fits that aesthetic, I'm not saying that all there should be but it definitely has a place it's place.

No limits on the music is where I would go. As long as its good. Heavy, dramatic, sappy, etc. all good.

The trailers for mwo were well done so far.

If they put in anything other than electronic MW music I'll be muting it forever on the first day. Listen to music from MC1 or either of the first 2 MW2 titles. All that stuff was awesome. Then came the PoS rock music in later titles. News flash gaming industry; rock music is not video game music. Unless you're playing Guitar Hero, that stuff sucks. Whatever happened to music like THIS?

OR THIS?

But maybe I'm biased because I don't listen to any crappy rock/metal IRL either. I listen to bands like Santa Hates You and Nachtmahr. Also, Blutengel, Blutengel, and more Blutengel.

As a musician, I have one question.

Dafuq did you learn your genres, OP? That's a modern solid state modeling amp or you can call me Hikyuu.

Don't really matter what ingame music is playing cause I turn it off. I'll just play some mp3's if I need some music while playing. That way I control what music is playing.

You forgot to add the option "I disable music and play my own" hehe

Just so you know most dubstep artists have alot more musical education than rock guys. Most are music school graduates (the successful ones) or started in other musical fields. My favorite dubstep group (Nero) are comprised of two Musical University graduates, one plays classical guitar, and the other plays the cello. Also, Skrillex (most known US artist) started off in a rock band. You don't have to like dubstep, just don't talk about something you don't really have a clue about, you just sound dumb.

Talent is not something that can be produced by education - honed or refined perhaps, but not produced.

The absence of a formal musical education does not negate musicianship, or knowledge of the craft.

On the other hand, formal musical education can produce such things as the Wiggles. Wildly commercially successful, not necessarily something I want with my Mechwarrior Online either (I get enough of it as it is, my son is two).

That's what I do these days too. Once upon a time game music used to be awesome. Now days... you just mute it and play something else. GW2 managed to have amazing tracks though.

I understand the connection, I just think it should be updated to meet the times.

I think alot of the music choice is to do with the age groups involved in the game, for example, I'd post a video with the music I remember listening to while I was playing all those mech games back in the 80s, 90s, I'm not a young man you know ;)

i would expect more recent fans to use more up to date music though, so do see your point.

No way, but I'm guessing you're a rock music fan or never played many classic video games.

good god, I was trying to watch the videos for this game, but the music is so bad I couldn't do it. please stop using crappy 80s p0rn0 rock songs for the vids. considering how much dubstep is coming up in the US, lasers and dubstep combine real nicely.

Just to spite you my next video will be set to this:

It's going to be awesome.

Fun fact: the venn diagram of "dubstep" and "music" consists of two circles that don't touch.

Fun fact: the music of prior mechwarrior titles (and mechcommander titles) is a great sample of what the music for MW:O should sound like.

Fun fact: Theese facts aren't funny at all.
