Please stop using the Awesome trial mech

I know it's the biggest mech, but bigger does not always equal better. It's just awful:
1) Huge torso hit boxes.
2) Relatively light torso armor.
3) It's SLOW!
4) It counts as an assault mech (80 tons). So the other team will most likely get an Atlas(100 tons) to balance out the teams.
5) Only 12 shots of LRM ammo. So after a minute of firing, you're reduced to a giant slow target with 2 large lasers....
When I see an Awesome on the other team I giggle and rub my hands together with glee.
When there's one or, god forbid, multiple Awesomes on my team, I cry.
Please, please, please. Choose anything else. Try out the Raven and do some scouting. It will help your team much more than driving a free kill like the Awesome.

The Raven is much worse at scouting than the awesome is at being a fire support platform, as flawed as it is.

Why, you ask? This is why.

And sadly, I frequently end up doing more in that "free kill" than the rest of the team will during a match. That LRM ammo is enough to drop an enemy 'Mech in a hurry, combined with the large lasers. After that, you've got the firepower of a heavy, but that's often enough to maim or kill another 'Mech enough to do your fair share. You just don't have the LRMs to waste on low-odds shots.

Totally agreed, in fact I think the awesome is the most viable trial mech of the four.
Make your LRMs count and you can do massive damage.
Also it is the ONLY trial mech with any semblance of heat efficiency.

Raven is slow and any real light mech can wipe the floor with it without taking a hit.
Centurion has a huge liek xbox hitbox.
Dragon is a mixed-range pile of "Help, I'm having a teenage identity crisis"
Awesome at least has an optimum range to work with and a solid loadout of weapons built for that range.

The trail awesome may be a strong opponent to some mechs, but the it is simply no match for an atlas.
Problem is that it is very often balanced against an atlas.
Would be nice if the matchmaker would try to match the actuall weight, and not just the class of the mechs.

It also can throw a large amount of damage with it's LRMs for a short period of time then close and stomp the enemies you just softened up.
I have used the Awesome as an Assault pilot and a Missile Boat Captain I approve of this Mech as I get as many kills as I do in my Custom Atlas and I don't have to pay for repairs.
The OP does have a point though, you do not want to drive Just the Awesome, you could be missing out on finding you are actually a scout instead of Fire Support. SO do try various trial Mechs as they come out. You never know you may want to buy one and mod it to your personal style and rock the Successor Houses.

This is not a thread about the loadout of the trial Awesome.
This is a thread about matchmaking.
The Awesome is sorta like a madcat light, not terrible really. Soften things up with your LRMs and then brawl with the lasers...
The problem is the Awesome will be matched on the other team with another assault. When means something big and possibly optimized, in lots of cases an atlas.
The trial Awesome may be good, but a Founder's Atlas being piloted by a closed beta player, totally tricked out is going to drop that decent Awesome and three of his friends without breaking a sweat.

yeah it sucks as a straight out slugger but the standard Awesome was never meant to be more than a ranged support mech and the trial version is just that. Honestly it does well if you use it carefully and I've won handily in the thing.. tho also in close quarters... I've been torn to ribbons..

The only Atlas the trial Awesome cannot match is the Atlas D-DC or the 8Q(?4 LRMs) which can carry 3 LRMs. I have drove the trial Awesome and give it my Missile Boat Captain's approval.

I see a lot of vets saying they can make the Awesome work in spite of itself. Awful mech aside, yes I guess my main problem with it is that it will usually get matched to a fully maxed out Atlas.
The worst case I've seen was our 4 trial Awesomes got matched to 4 Atlases. That's an 80 ton advantage. A free assault mech. That extra tonnage plus customization equals a loss.
At least if new players picked a lighter mech we wouldn't be at that great a disadvantage.

The awesome is the only somewhat viable trialmech right now, and it sucks a lot. Does that not say pretty much everything about trials...?
Trials are broken, matchmaking is broken... it does not matter at all who drops with what, founders and premade always win. Choosing a even worse mech then the awesome will not help.
Its irrelevant if you get thrown against a maxed atlas or a maxed catapult or a maxed hunchback. Trials will always be the punching bag for the real mechs.
