seems to be common place for anyone using this weapon.. I personally believe there should be some sort of system in place to identify and ban people using macro's it's nullifying the jamming system put in place to prevent continualy chain firing these weapons.. which is being basically hacked out of the game with macro's

.
Misguided... It does "NOT" nullify jamming at all, "JAMMING" still occurs, the Macro you mention is to "UNJAM" the weapon.
.
I personally do not use the Ultra AC-5, but if I did, I would unjam the weapon with the most efficient way possible.
.
You cannot ban people for Macros, they are simply key presses.. That will be all..

again... to reiterate, the problem isnt players using macros. the problem is the terrible implementation of jamming.

1) if you want players to have to unjam manually, then do it in such a way that its impossible to macro, as in you have to push a randomized sequence of the arrow keys (like dance dance revolution).

2) otherwise just make unjamming automatic.

Again.

Hold down fire gives %0 jam and fires the UAC/5 at default rate (1.1)
Tap button again(doubletap) during weapon cooldown/reload causes %8 jam and gives the ultra/double shot.

When jammed the UAC/5 can not be fired for a set time. Then automatically comes back online.

Program it with razer software or certain keyboards.

Also can make tag toggle on/off as well.

It's not hacking it's short cutting FYI.

Well with my G15 I have the option of either letting the macro unjam it basically in miliseconds or - by recording my own button pushing speed - to do it in the time I'd need to do it manually. I'm using the latter option now so the jamming actually puts it out of the fight as long as it should. Obviously the macro is still putting me at an advantage over non-macro-users as I can still focus on the fight while it does it but tbh it feels more like the uac is intended to work that way.

So, all the first topics that come up on "Utlra AC/5" search talk about some unjam move/macro.
I guess - but would like to verify - that this mechanic got changed?

Because I just do nothing for a while at its back to pew pew...

Yes, mechanic is changed, threads no longer relevant.

Used to be that you had to deselect and reselect the jammed UAC from every group it was in... which was like playing DDR on your keyboard. And so, people wrote macros to do it for them with a single button press.

So a balanced (but annoying) mechanic was circumvented, and the weapon was more powerful than intended. Now it's on a straight timer, and working as intended.

Personally, I like the idea of giving players the option to use the ultra acs (hoping that there will also be ultra ac2s, ac10s and ac20s introduced soon, similar to the hope that more streak SRM variants will be introduced soon) in ultra or regular mode. If they choose to implement "ultra mode" during the match and the cannons jam, then the weapon/s may as well be jammed for the rest of the match. However, the chance of jamming should be fairly low (either 5% in general or, in my opinion a better solution, linked to the general heat buildup during firing - resulting in a higher jamming likelihood at higher mech heat buildup - so that those use ultra acs in "ultra mode" will not dare to fire anything else (like lasers, PPCs, missiles, etc.) at the the same time, limiting the heat buildup and damage output).

I would also suggest the same approach for the upcoming implementation of the MASC system (that is likely to be introduced with the Flea mech), giving the mech pilot the option to go into "MASC mode" and associating this either with a general fail percentage of, say, also 5% or the mechs heat buildup (taking a high risk of freezing the mechs legs for good and automatically dropping the mech to the ground for good during a match, when firing weapons in "MASC mode" that cause the mechs heat to increase further).

Naturally, all macro-related gaps should be closed by the developers (during the Beta and subsequently), so that cheaters cannot have an advantage over those choosing a fairplay approach in MWO.

Why couldn't they have just made unjam 1 button for everyone?
