I do believe that phase (2) of the group implementation will be similar to what you request. Give it time.

And then what would you complain about when you still got stomped?

Teirdome "I live in a house built in 1890. The interior walls never had insulation added to them, so they are only slightly thicker than paper."

I live in a similar house. If your computer is not 1 room away from where she is working it should be.
Second, 1 week and politics goes away for a while.

As to talking while she is working, unless you are a screaming ***** who can't control himself, headset and a quiet tone of voice would never be picked up on a phone call in another room. Thin walls or not.

PS for anyone who prefers Ventrillo to TS we are throwing our merc vent server wide open for a while.
Come hang out, play MWO, no pressure, no expectations. Just the chance to make some new friends.

Shouldn't have to use voice comm in order to enjoy a good, quick game. If you want to play competitively in groups, then go play competitively in groups. Some of us just want to hop on for a quick match or two, then get off. It's really that simple. If it's something intergrated into the system, then so be it. I personally don't use voice comm in Dota 2, CS (which is/and has a far more competitive community), and TF2, but I do just fine.

People act like this is the first game ever to have people working together as an actual team... Some good points though OP... I myself was a little confused at having to DL a third party program in order to talk ingame (C3)... I have TS and Vent already, however, and use them in any game I play unless ingame voice comms are the norm in that particular game... But face it, clans have exsisted for a long time and use comms to talk...

The issue is, in my opinion, that people are getting used to the console way of doing things, in other words, matchmaking... You have no idea who you are going to end up with on the same team and when you do get into a game the voice comms are filled with annoying squeakers who constantly berate each others mothers... So people turn voice comms off and everyone just runs around klilling, dying, respawning, rinse and repeat till the round ends without ever hearing another living soul...

Sorry, but that is not how a PC game works... Or rather not how it's supposed to work... Notice how Black Ops started on PC with matchmaking then quickly switched to dedicated servers and the ability to mod the game..? Because PC players don't want matchmaking and no ability to mod the game... It sucks... It's boring... It strips away the fun of playing a game to the PC gamers who are, on average, older gamers with alot more knowledge than the console gamer...

Now after having said all that I still agree that voice comms not built into the game itself is a little odd (They are working on it from what I hear, it wasn't acting right apparently)... Not having hotkeys to hit some basic commands to coordinate is a little odd (Maybe they are working on that I don't know)... They have had some issues getting the game going and are running behind... It happens... Oh well...

I so badly want to get on peoples case about NOT using voice and acting as a team but this is not what this thread is about... It's supposed to be about encouraging people to go ahead and give it a try (right?)... It really is fun guys... Really... Working together you can play out the round and win in around 5 minutes and gain more $C than all these 'Gain c-bills fast' threads say you can by being a putz and disconnecting or suiciding whether it's suicide by overheat or suicide by running into the enemy and dying... You PUGS should be more angry at those people than the premade groups... They are one of the main reasons you get stomped so fast...

On the flip side, you don't have to play competitively to use VOIP. I use voice all the time when I play with my friends. Two or three of us grouped up. We have no desire to do clan stuff, or do anything competitive, just have fun playing the game together.

Keep in mind, FPS's like CS and TF2 plays out far differently since you can respawn in these games. Games where you can't respawn like in MechWarrior, are far less forgiving. Once a side starts dying they become progressively weaker. This isn't the case on the other games you mentioned.

You make some good points, as to the underlined bit of the quote, if people wish to take it as a friendly encouragement they are welcome to ( ;) ) but i was honestly just interested in a civil conversation about VOIP and why people do or do not use it and whether or not it impacted their choice to run with/as premade groups.

It's so easy to actually get on a team and play in a dropgroup, it's seriously sad that everyone's not doing it. The game would be a ton better if they did.

That's the thing though for many it's not about competitiveness, but your point is well taken and exactly the kind of thing i'm looking for.

Would people say (as I've seen two now say it explicitly in this thread) that the time overhead of setting up a premade/voice every time is dissuading you from wanting to run in a premade group? (to clarify when i say premade i am talking about any group playing together using the in game grouping mechanics not just organizations like merc corps.)

Agreed 100% with all the OP.

Spectacular win in a silent pubbie match?
So what; You hit launch again and it's all forgotten in less time than it takes for the next map to load, it means nothing, may as well score a hot date with your hand, you know?

Playing in a pub no matter which team kills the other or gets capped, is still a loss.

It's nothing to do with being competitive per-se, or wanting to win; That's just a false argument used by those who don't want to accept a simple truth ~ Multi-player games are only fun with multiple players; If you're not in comms with the other players, they may as well just be bots with simple AI programming.

Sure, I play pubs now and again, to try new builds and so-forth, but it's like going to a party and refusing to talk to anyone all night, pretty pointless in the end.

No matter how much fun you think you're having playing alone, the team on comms is telling more jokes, having more laughs, and taking it waaay less seriously than you are, all alone in your head.

Just drop in for a quick 15min match and try it, stay for a drop and then go about your day, doing normal real-life s**t.
Job. Done.

In this order:

Lol :)

That is one way to look at it, i tend to agree

And that is very much why I do it,

So I've heard from a couple people who don't use voice, I am genuinely interested in hearing from more, have we missed any reasons why people don't want to use VOIP for MWO in it's current form.?

In that case, I use VOIP and get in premades because it makes the game fun... Any game... If I wanted to just run around by myself I would play a single player game...

ok, this one confuses me... they didn't fix collisions, they took them out altogether while they determine the best way to deal with them. right now, there appear to be NO collisions (at least mech to mech), i know i accidentally run through teammates and enemies on every drop (in a fast jenny or rav).

i'm not sure if you mean they should fix the problem by eliminating premades... but if that is what you are proposing, i would have to rather vehemently disagree.

Yes, that's a big part of it. A game of MWO lasts at most 15 minutes, but you can add considerably to that if you have to arse about herding the cats so that everyone is eventually ready. I'm not very technically minded so setting up another program and the channels for it is a non-trivial exercise, and if all it lets me do is read a book for half an hour while people sort their lives out then my enthusiasm for it drops dramatically.

Another aspect is the commitment. There are people on my friends list whom I'd like to group with, but that's because I've already seen them in action and know a bit about how we work together. Joining a group implicitly states that I agree with the group and what it stands for, and I don't feel comfortable about that with people I don't know.

Finally, the community really puts me off. The MWO forums are full of venomous and hateful posts, and the people who constantly push TS are not exactly blameless. I just don't want to asociate with people like that.

The TS server is already set up, all you have to do is join and then meet people... It doesnt take that long and once you're on it you can play several rounds one after another...

The loudest voices are always the ones complaining... We should all know that forums are filled with this kind of mess all the time... The people I've met on TS are pretty laid back and fine to talk to...

while i am generally a supporter of ts pick up groups (not units, but lfg type stuff), i do think Lavernti has a point at some times of day. for example, if i have a few minutes before i leave for work in the morning, i may drop in for a couple quick ones. just this morning (about 0500 PDT), i was on lfg for long enough to do a pug without one call to join. when i got back in and was applying xp to a mech tree, a taccom i have run with who pushes a tight turnaround contacted me on MWO social and i got another two in with his group in the 20 or so minutes i had available.

BUT, i have dropped in some mornings with 30 minutes to spare and gotten 1 (one) drop because the trickle of mechlabs, client issues, bios, and conversations ate all the rest of the time. that is frustrating, and i can understand Lavernti's initial point quite well.

I know you would.... along with most people who group up in this game at this point in time.

The whole pug vs premade debate and MM gripes are fine and understandable, in A FINISHED GAME.

Or at least say 80% finished.

Is MWO 80% or better finished?

I sure hope not.

There are way too many things this shell of a game needs at the moment and has needed, and premade groups are just not one of them.

Good idea to turn away new players.

PGI wouldn't need to waste time backtracking and redoing a system that never should have been implemented in the first place this early.

I even plan on joining a group if this beta ever really launches into a complete finished game.

Joining a group with the game the way it is now..... for what stat padding?

I know I know, you have your excuses.

And excusers are gonna excuse.

There is no time. Either it gets implemented within a week or EVERY SINGLE NEW PLAYER WILL HAVE QUIT.

And only one to blame is PREMADES ROLLING THEIR FACES. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Every day. Every hour.

It's like ALL OF YOU hate having a big community and a successful game.YOU PEOPLE are the ones who are responsible if the game dies a fast death.

PGI sure is working hard to stop it, but you people can stop it now.

Most Founder's seem to think that MWO is their game.

And anyone else should be fodder on the battlefield for their amusement.

S!

Poerisija, read the article by an American game developer. He has made games since 1970's and has experienced it all I bet. I think he nailed it well in his column: Today's gamers are lazy, spoiled and stupid waiting for a granted instant success without any effort put into it. A setback is so "devastating" and a loss so "humiliating" for them, to actually see there are people that beat the balloozas out of you. It is easier to blame the game or whatever, but not self. And this is the biggest gripe IMO.

I play in "premades" or you can call them "looking for group" teams over TS3. I've met one of the most friendly community there, the long time fans of BT/TT/MW. I've learned a lot from these ladies and gents. It just took one step: get on TS3 and politely introduce yourself. In no time you propably have already found some people you regularly talk and play with. I have :)

Forums are a battle zone with so many opinions as there are posters. But over TS I have yet to encounter a person acting badly. This is a TEAM based MP game after all, not a SP experience :)
