Ultima Online has lasted for fifteen years (whether it's been going strong since then, I wouldn't be able to say), while it took a sequel to get people to stop playing the first StarCraft. I'm hoping that MechWarrior Online will last a similar amount of years or failing that, sequel games will keep the 'Mech action going strong for another ten years (I sure as hell don't want the franchise to be dead for another decade!).

So I don't know, any chance of this game lasting long enough to see say, the Uziel or the Mad Cat Mk. II get introduced?

I personally think they won't adhere to a 1:1 release ratio with Mechs after the game releases. It's just too restrictive to keep in place and reduces content that people want.

When Clan Tech comes, I'm sure there will be a want to play "IS Tech only" games as well as mixed tech.

It will last as long as there are Battletech/MechWarrior fans, Piranha Games stops getting money (which then maybe they'll pass the rights of the game to the community or MekTek for non-proft) or until a new premier MechWarrior Title takes the stage.

A timeframe? Well I still play MW4... so I mean... years?

It will last at least longer than this thread.

Edit: WM:O is not even released and people worry about the games lifetime?
[deity of choice], what a meshuggana world we live in!

Pretty much this. Unless something unexpected happens and the game is horrible (which I doubt very much will happen).

They would REALLY have to screw this up bad for it to fail...there isn't even a playable beta and look how many members are signed up and actually use the forums...

Because they used Cry-engine, this game will potentially last for a very long time. It all comes down to their FTP model.

Merc Corps can go play elsewhere if they don't want to get involved. House Marik doesn't see any Clan action does it. Hopefully there won't be any "mixed tech" and PGI will stick to "puretech".

Not even that. Eve Online has redone it's entire engine and texture work multiple times over the years to keep up with the advances in graphics. And that is a game that can be truly free to play for the players that have completely invested in it by purchasing Game Time with in game currency.

Reality is the only limits on how long a game will keep going are the player base and the people behind the game.

House Jurai has been playing MW since before 2000 using 'limited supported' MW games. With support and a good solid base it should go on for a long time IMO.

If its all we expect it to be I'd give it atleast 2 years....
If its just another Pay to Win i'd give the Devs about a month before we find out their home addreses, and then about 5 to 10 minutes life expectancy depending on physical fitness.

But personally i hope this game goes on long enough to use up ALL the lore and actually start making up new lore (so atleast 500 years)

Long enough for these sort of threads to die out for a while.

It's impossible to know however, as speculation must be based on the inevitable quality of the game. Screenshots have it looking good, but lots of bugs, or poor balancing, or overpriced stores, or a host of other thigns could kill it. The game's success inevitably resides on the shoulders of how well it is executed. I have high hopes, but no way of knowing, nor does anoyone posting in this thread.

This game will last as long as PGI is willing to support it. With big titles like this, long-term developer support will keep it alive. Halo 3 still has a large community and it was released 5 years ago and has seen 2 new Halo games released in its lifetime. However if Bungie hadn't supported the game and kept the community engaged, it would be dead today. As long as PGI feeds the people, this game will be successful for many yeras

You still play MW3? What do you run it on? Teach me your secrets.

I definitely see this start to "live" just based on fact that this is mech game after all, but how long, thats how good they're at marketing and how much press they get. Steam would be my first thing to contact. Also you need to keep adding content too.

I really hope they'd pull of World of Tanks, its just amazing how well they're doing.

Hard to say without it being released, but I'd be suprised if we don't see at least a decade of active development with large playerbase.

World of Tanks launched with plans for at least 10 year life cycle, for example.

IMO, 3025-3055 tech has enough content that no time skip is needed in forseeable future.
