"A Combine upgrade of the Atlas that uses rediscovered Star League technology, the K model is built with a XL Engine that reduces the weight of the engine by half. The 'Mech has been retooled for long range combat: the 'Mech now carries a Imperator Dragon's Fire Gauss Rifle and a Shigunga LRM-20. These are backed up by a pair of Victory Nickel Alloy ER Large Lasers, which allow the AS7-K to keep an enemy at range, though the use of single heat sinks causes swift heat buildup if both lasers are fired repeatedly. For close range defense, the K model carries two Victory Heartbeat Medium Pulse Lasers and a Yori Flyswatter Anti-Missile System. Finally, CASE has been added to the side torsos to protect against an ammunition explosion."

Those XL engines will leave you dead in the water faster than you think. All I can say is watch your flanks, because death by side-torso-core is a sissy way for an Assault Pilot to go down.

in urban terrain it's crap. any mobile opponent is going to repeatedly flank it and take it down.
in open country the long range is fearsome, yes. the heat management systems are pretty lousy though, so it can't really bring that firepower to bear for very long. there's no sustained knockout punch ability like warhammers or marauders have.
i'd want a decent lance averageing 55 tons of better per mech with some really solid fire support from say, catapaults. overwhelm the AMS, then flank it in a pincer. down he goes. liberal use of ECM keeps his own missiles from making the solid punch, and slows down his targeting.
all you really have to do is flank him and hit him hard. engine goes, what's it good for?
any pilot that lone-rangers in this mech is going to be toast in short order against any smart pilot.

i don't think it'll be any measurably faster than the snail's pace the base model has. they upgunned it like mad after lowering the engine weight. that tends to keep the top speed down, adding weapons like that.

Likewise I too prefer my mechs without XL engines. People don't release that an XL engine means increased vulnerability. In some machines the trade off is worth it, but I'll take the Original Atlas over the upgrade with the XL Engine.

this.
however if you want/need a direct-fire support mech to lay siege to a defensive works, or something to bottle up a choke point, this could definetly do the job with a little extra support. a full salvo from the 7-K-series would be a load of hurt on whoever's in the cross-hairs.
at range, in a snow field say, it'd be a tough mech to fight.
griffin-6S variant could prolly take it single-handed tho. lrm-15 distracts it at range while running in and jumping a quarter-kilometer to flank it, then hitting it in the back and side before it has a chance to turn with that bloody hard hitting set of energy weapons it has.
a PPC and pair of medium lasers will rough up your day, especially when they're hitting you in the soft spots.

It can definately hurt you, but the pilot has to be experienced at handling heat, and it's not as good in a brawl. It would be an awesome support choice, but it needs skirmishers to keep it from gettign surrounded and overwhelmed. The thing needs it's range and time to cool.
I would suggest pairing an ERLL with a gauss and the other with the LRM-20, and firing those as pairs. Don't group the ERLLs together or you're gonna overheat.

Good grief...the 'Mechs are all designed with a specific purpose or role in mind. Give them credit for what they were intended to do, not what you can butcher them into.
EDIT: Typo.

Modifying your 'Mech to squeeze the most performance out of it is one of the cornerstones of BattleTech/MechWarrior, brah.
Just sayin'.
