I love how most of the replies to the LRM problem are "learn to use cover" when LRMs go over cover and hit you... or the cover your using is merely the illusion of cover.

So either you are hiding the entire game while their scout caps or you come out to defend and get rained to death. But cover cures all, apparently.

Ive seen some LRMs go through cover, my cover. They hit me, cause explosions, shake my screen but deal no damage...

if you just group up, use ams, and share damage, there is no issue at all. when you are being targeted, if your in a mob of ams equipped mechs, stay right on the *** of one ally at a time, so most of the missiles hit him and some hit you, then switch allies when he is getting orange. sure voice is necessary for this to work, but that just means get a group.

easy peasy.

One problem with this is if your team is trial mech heavy. Trial mechs do not have access to ams.

When you see the LRM squad of a team don't go straight at them. Go around the terrain and rush them. Once in short range they fall apart. If you are on Forest Colony and the LRM boats have the big hill spawn, send some brawlers through the tunnel.

LRMs in groups are always dominating in the open, you have to use terrain and close the distance. Light 'mechs are great for this and will shut the LRM rain off fast.

Most cover does not work since indirect fire shoots the missles up in the air and then rains them down on you so cover really does nothing. I seen missle go through a couple of hiding places like the storm drain, or the rock arch.

Line of sight fire 300-500 meters cover works a bit better.

Sweet so their spotters are now capping your base, with whatever non LRM mechs they have now also closing on your base. While you haven't even reached their LRM boats as you have to make a large detour. You are damned if you continue and are damned if you head back.

Protip: stay behind cover, kill the spotters first, then go after the missile boats.

Do all you people just run into derp spotters that run right into your group presenting themselves as an easy kill? I run ito one that make it so you have to leave cover to have any hope of killing them in any reasonable time.

They have to. LoS is reciprocal in this game. If a spotter is spotting you, you can spot them, see how that works?

I don't know, when I am in a light or medium 'mech with a few others we scatter the LRM boats fast. There is always give and take, but if you are being capped your scouts can get back there fast. Alot of sneaking up on LRM boats is picking the moment to rush out of hiding when they are distracted or zig-zagging to keep them guessing. That's just thinking as you approach. If you do get locked up, power down behind a hill.

Anyway, if you walk through their killing field, you died. Take the different route.

Yeah if it's only one spotter. Most groups run multiple or by the time you down the one they have their non LRM Mechs on you. A good spotter can keep you lit up for a long time while taking minimal damage. I swaer you guys act like teh spotter just runs up to you and stops and stares at you.

Thats why you need to focus fire. If your group doesnt focus fire on spotters first youre doing it wrong. And when you focus fire on a mech, even a light mech, it tends to die almost instantly.

They know where you are, in cover. They can pop up from multiple areas for just the smallest amount of time as target holds long enough to fire a volley. If there are 2 you will only ever hit them by blind luck and they will rarely lose lock.

And again, we have use a light. Incase you haven't actually read the thread, the issue is not that they can't be countered, but that their is 3 ways only to counter them Counter LRM, light mech while the slow stay in cover, or everyone running AMS and staying in a mob. 1 of which requires a specific mech setup, another requires your team to have a similar LRM loadout to your opponent. The last is about the only thing a group not designed specifically to LRM things down or to counter an LRM spam can do. It's not engaging gameplay. It makes the game stale and just frustrates new players and makes others that want to do more than hide in cover bored. It's not good for the game at all.

Well youre welcome to come play with us on the NGNG server because we win 99% of our games and have absolutely no problems beating pugs or premades that use LRMs. In fact ive only died 2 times since open beta started and ive played well over 100 games.

theres your answer. Once the current trial mechs get swapped out for something that isnt LRM heavy, it'll die down somewhat. Lets make all the trial mechs laser boats next time so we can test the DHS "Fix".

Oh man, since anyone who can run a graphing calculator knows the DHS Fix is screwed IDK if its a good idea to turn new users into guinea pigs. They would probably all quit after taking Gauss Rifle shots to the eye during shutdowns.

And where are your spotters? And where are your LRM equipped mechs?
You have a bunch of ****** heavies hunched in a corner armed with small lasers and nothing else, of course you're going to get wrecked.
You're acting as if your team has no balance and the enemy team is extremely balanced.

Unless you are implying that the enemy team is nothing but missile boats and 2 spotters, in which case you can just go wreck their **** with 4 mechs sneaking around while rest draw fire and brawl with the scouts near your spawn. All it takes for cat missile boats is to wreck their ears, Awesome is easy as **** to core and Atlas boats are the most dangerous. Those may be a problem so definitely a good idea to try avoid the firing arc of those. Or you can just camp on your arse and waste their missiles. If they are dumb, they'll gladly oblige.

Also if you lock, fire volley, unlock then the volley will miss. Unless the target stays PERFECTLY still or the missile boat is able to reacquire lock before the missile arrive.

I have noticed some people started rushing at the LRM boats in Light mechs and those LRM boats don't do well to defend themselves.

Which is why I run 4 streaks and 2 x LRM 15 or LRM 20's on my Cat...

Great light mech bait, it's great to watch them run away just as fast as they came at me when the streaks are landing. Plus That mix is devastating to any Mech sitting in between 180-270m. They eat the lot.

Streak/LRM cat gets some hate.

I'm going to try get together a Premade of these things...

Oh the tears

Don't know if they're OP and I don't care. They're no fun to use and no fun to fight against. Boring as hell either way. I wouldn't cry if they took them out altogether. I had to use them on my Founder's Cat after the reset and I couldn't wait to swap them for SRM6s... it was either a snoozefest or felt like I was using hacks to win... and Lord, who wants to win like that? I'd rather play a different game entirely.
