Close to it's effective range or drop in a heavily urban map and you'll sing a different tune. AC20s are the hardest hitting weapons in the game and hit a lot harder. heck even past 270 meters it hit like a truck.
As for me, I've said it before and have no problem saying it again. King Crab. Dual AC20, large laser and an LRM 15. Not even the toughest brawler Atlases want to close with this thing.

Heat will still be an issue wit h the DHS or have you not seen how they are fixing them?
It will eventually be fixed properly .. just watch. Any weapons heat can be managed with proper amount of heat sinks ... The mauler is able to counter the heat very effectively. Once again just wait and see.

Thats the issue , Gauss does it at ALL ranges , and can be fired more then 4 times consecutively. The close range edge is so minimal I just don't care.

gauss also requires precise aiming ... AC20 is a shotgun

Quad Gauss anyone? What could possibly go wrong?

True, crits might be an issue.
But even with 4, you should be able to fit your structure/armor/engine/ammo into the remaining 30 tons.

Really? If we both get off 3 alpha strikes, you do 90 damage. I'll do 120. That doesn't seem minimal to me. I can survive 90 damage to CT. You can't survive 120.

I believe the problem is that 2 of them are in the center torso. Again, I don't really know precisely, I have just never heard or thought of making a quad gauss mauler and my belief is that it's unviable.
I may be proven wrong.

Problem is that the mauler is too slow and too big a target. Those AC/20's will be out for anyone that wants to kill anything.

Dispite that.....the mauler will still be a good mech, it always was and I hope its the next assault mech they come out with.
