I believe this addition is a absolute necessity.
look at the COD, Halo, BF fps games every single one of any decent fps games has a private games. i bet if you were to ask those developers how much of their client base play private matches only it would be at least 30% or higher. i would imagine this game would be higher personally. honestly halo adopted a new matchmaking game type from private matches, it is now called infection but if you played halo 2 that was the big deal is to get a massive private game started and play hrs of this infection game type and you see it now in halo 4 as an official matchmaking variant now.
this would also do the existing matchmaking a favor since the only way to really practice with a clan member is to try to sync drop against each other or just to drop as a group and kill eachother off in the corner of the map. i would bet there is a high percentage of that going on in in the existing matchmaking also.
as far as paying MC for a private match is a terrible idea and i would loose alot of respect for this game if they did that. look at league of legends another freemium game and they dont even nickle and dime you like this company does. and it is wildly successful (only thing you cant get in that game for free is champion skins for those who dont know) but my point is they allow private matches in that game at no expense to the player.

Honestly, Private Matches shouldn't take server space at all. "How is this possible?" you ask. Local Hosting/Dedicated Private Servers. Cheating is a non-issue in training drops and the like. These games should NOT offer rewards beyond experience, not to be confused with Mech XP or GXP.

I like the sound of challenging another to a duel. Maybe they could introduce trials of possession with the clans invading.

I think a private game mode is fine.
But I hope you realize that C-Bills should not be rewarded for private game modes.
As it would be way too easy for one team to sit down and let the other team "farm" them.
Or easy enough to setup alternate accounts and farm yourself.
All you would need is to create an alternate account, take out a trial atlas mech and challenge it in 1.vs.1. Then begin to strip it down piece by piece to gain the most Cbills.
You could do this with 1.vs.1, or get some friends and do it 12.vs.12.
Either way no Cbills should for private matches.

I don't think it's essential, a nice feature sure, but not essential.....

private matches should cost money to enter, be part of a solaris setup & integrated into CW ideally.

I amend my earlier statement. Being able to set up private matches has now become essential. CW is possibly a myth so what's left but for the community to rise up and hold our own matches and tournaments?
