The Centurion-A is a multiweapons system but still gets the same number of ballistic hardpoints as a ballistic design weapons system. You also see a lot more variation in Centurion-A ballistic loadout than just "gauss rifle" because it has 3 slots instead of 2 slots.

The A has 2 ballistic hardpoints.

Edit: Correction The A has a single ballistic hardpoint.

Just wait for the JagerMech or a mech designed for ballistics to come out.

We all know Jagermechs will just have dual gauss rifles. Because whenever you split up ballistic points like the Jagermech does it just invites people to use as many gauss rifles as they can. Its having multiple ballistic slots in one location that gives options because you can do dual gauss in the same location.

Just going to drop this reference in. As far as I can tell you're both wrong :)

I wasn't talking about dual gauss, it's going to have a large number of ballistic hardpoints because it's a mech built around them. I bet we'll see quad ac2 builds on it that are far more annoying that dual gauss.

Were both wrong it only has 1 ballistic hardpoint. I thought there was a centurion with 3 ballistic hardpoints, I guess not.

Nah Quad AC/2 is way too much heat. Thats 8 heat per second. And you could only fit like 10-12 heatsinks on after ammo. I could see triple UAC/5 though for sure.

There was. It was the AH which revolved around a ballistic damage output with some missile backup. Sort of like how the 4G revolves around ballistic damage with laser back up.

I just realized that, while a 50 ton mech can 'boat' three cannons, a 100 ton assault mech who comes stock with the same gun cannot.

This arbitrary hardpoint system is a little...arbitrary.

It's not arbitrary; it's to give different Mech variants different advantages. For instance, if the Hunchback 4H had 1 ballistic and 2 energy in the RT, and the 4G just had 1 ballistic, then why would anyone ever use a 4G? Look at the Dragons, they sequentially swap energy for ballistic points to cause Mech usage variations.

A secondary factor is that the restriction of hardpoints on larger mechs is meant to encourage the use of large weapons platforms instead of boating small ones. This is why you can't put 2 lasers on the arm of every Atlas anymore (like we used to with earlier Beta builds)

Heck, if they followed the line of reasoning behind the OP, then the Devs would take one look at the Komodo and say "Hrm, if a 45-ton Medium Mech can have 5 Medium Lasers on each arm, then I guess all the Assault Mechs should have that ability, too." They granted smaller Mechs the ability to "boat" small weapons because smaller Mechs can't boat the same number of HS as larger Mechs can. This is a balancing factor, and I think mentioning the 8ML Catapult K2 serves as a fine example of how hardpoint reduction on large chassis makes sense.

I know the sized hard point idea will never be implemented, but this really reminds of that idea(which I did like).. oh well.

Then why does the heat system punish you excessively for using large weapons and reward you for boating small low-heat weapons?
