Another good thing about quads, they can side step!

I thought the goliath was a straight star wars rip off of the ATAT. At least that is what I thought when I first saw it.

I would also like quads since they are canon and lore. Besides the maneuver of sidestepping really comes into its own in close quarters and urban environments as well as going hull down with your turret. Which means the quad can lower itself because it has four legs so that only a sensor or periscope as it were are showing and get target locks and then raise up slightly and fire its main gun on the top of its torso. A really nasty surprise, trust me.

There's BT canon and then there's MW "canon". Quads sound sort of like heresy to MW vets but not to BT players. If PGI can make it balance and work well then I'm cool with quads. I think what will happen though is that slow=dead regardless of the quad's firepower. Most players dont want to sit back and be a support mech and most other players dont want to hang back and defend their quad.

There is an anime flavor to quads though that I want to avoid for the same reason I generally dont want to see melee and hand held weapons. Again though, if PGI can balance it and make it feel like Mechwarrior then I can deal with something new.

I am both a Battletech(Tabletop Stragety) and Mechwarrior(PCgame & TabletopRPG) vet and I can say that Quads are cannonical to both, BTW ever play Mechwarrior 2? Guess what is in that game, a Quad.namely the Tarantula. Also Melee/hand held weapons are cannonical and they are IS designed weapons so chances are we will see them, don't like them but that is because of old gaming alliances within the Battletech universe.

The one thing I would love to see them incorperate is an option for us to design our own mechs, doubt it will happen to be honest but would be nice.

That's a little to Chromehound-ish for me in my opinion. Also, possibility of Franken-mechs.

The scorpion was an excellent scout hunter with its speed and low profile, as for the Rhino i forget which anime it comes from, but Harmony Gold snagged the rights to them as part of a bizzare robotech offshoot comic that had nothing to do with Robotech or Macross lol.

If I remember correctly only the Scorpion and Tarantula could go Hull Down.

Sometimes I wonder if the "MW vets" would cry out in outrage if MW:O had something like piloting skill checks. Afterall, in anime you often see mecha stumbling and falling down for various reasons, including foot placement errors (and it happens in TT too). In MW:2 the 'mechs stand as long as they have intact legs.

Okey, granted, in MW:4 you could fall down after heavy weapon hit. But in anime and TT you can fall down just from wading in water or traversing rough terrain (inconceivable and utterly unrealistic and anime-like, I know).

That happens in lore too. Mind you, not the games, but in a lot of the novels. Be them novices, or seasoned vets, something a 'mech can't just stand up to. This is in reference of course to the Novels. :)

I would like some kind of skill check when traversing rough terrain, and the same for being hit with more than 20 points of damage in a ten second time frame ala the table top game. How PGI would do that I do not know, perhaps have a few flashing arrows coming rapidly in your hud and the pilot having to immediately move joystick mouse in that direction and then the next or fall down. I would hate for it to be just a roll, although I would be ok with it if they couldn't install a skill based aspect to the falling. This is a sim and pilot skill should trump random number generation at least where pilot skill comes in.

As for thru armor crits, I really do think there should be a gasp rng which gives you the chance of criting thru armor. at the 2 in 36 of rolling either a snakeeyes or boxcars. Just saying it was a balancing effect in the game and even allowed mg's, small lasers and ac2's the chance to shoot the proverbial golden bb. Because if there is a window or target area you can target for crits, trust me it will be hacked and or abused.

In the new version of the rules quads can hull down, not just some of them. But to get full advantage a turret would probably be more useful.

It sucks that i have to wait so long for my favorite quad the Barghest. it is a 70 ton monster packin 2 er large lasers for long range and a lb 20 ac for close in work. Good speed/mobility and good mix of firepower.

Personally outside of the MW genre Chromehounds was the only mechgame worth a flyingFK. Armoredcore genre wasn't worth it's programing!

Titans of Steel is very nice IMO. I also liked Mission Force: Cyberstorm (from 1997 or something I think).

The Scorpion and the Goliath are from an anime series called "Fang of the Sun Dougram". This series is also where the Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, Griffin, Thunderbolt and BattleMaster "Unseen" originally come from.

I personally love the quads because they are different and quirky and hope they make an appearance. I'll take one anyday.

Cheers Chasseur, I didn't know that. I always looked at the Goliath & saw a AT-AT with a hovertank on top. Bit like the AT-ST Flea. I thought they were "Unseen" because they were such blatant Star Wars rip-offs.

Must admit i'm in the lot of people who want to see them , I doubt I'd pilot it but nice to have the option for that moment of madness when I get out of my warhammer (/dragon)

I would say try Chromehounds but the servers died a couple years ago. the multiplayer was great until people started hiding there pits behind invincible spacers with additional armor plating bolted to them.

anyway that game handles ballistics very well, good god I wish I could have a cannon from that game in an MW game.

You do realize there's a quad that looks disturbingly similar to an equine, right? =P

Anywho, I'm all four (pun!) quads. Leg me now, herk-face! >=-)

I am going to be honest here, never even heard of Chromehound until now. I am mostly talking about converting the tabletop creation into the game itself, yes it could turn around and create some nasty possibilities if people min-maxed, but when used right I could actually turn around and make the long rang support mech I designed years ago for tabletop, it was a Heavy 75 ton Quad that in level 1 rules had 17 heat, 1 LRM 20 with 4 tons of ammo a Machine Gun with 1.5 tons of ammo and 4 medium lasers,100% armor allocation, 4 walk 6 run. very little change from that to level 2 rules but in level 3 it was no longer a support and traded out the 17 heats for 13 doubles, the LRM+Ammo for an Arrow IV with 1 ton of ammo, the medium lasers for 4 ER medium lasers dropped half a ton of Machine gun ammo and added in a Case II for ammo protection.

Personally while I highly doubt they will add in the custom mech builds I would hope they allow us at least to design personal varients of the mechs they do release, by adding that it would give no reason not to include Quads because some of the best surport mech designs come from Quad chassis IMHO.

Also the Goliath should be added and usable (just not common or very easy to get, yet in production) right from the start considering it has been in production for 397 years prior to the start year of MW:O, Xanthos I can see being something they add since it is the original Quad but I would say it should be something that we would have to work at own since it isn't in production but does exist. Not to mention since it does predate the Goliath by 82 years, the Scorpion should be accessable.
