LRMS where OP pre-patch...the new trajectories are crazy...much preferred missile boats having to get the high ground to rain LRMS down on stuff over THIS madness.

LRMs combined with Artemis and having double the TT damage is having a devastating effect by removing significant elements of the game. Even a 4-mech premade running two LRM-15s each is enough to finish off an 8-man group.

I am curious why PGI didn't bring out the ECM with the Artemis which would have been the balancing counter to this "Artillery is all-powerful" strategy. I realize they said the ECM still had issues, so I would have preferred the Artemis also be delayed. As it is now, it is going to be a lot of long-distance fights...

Last night, I did what I normally did, ducked behind cover only to get myself killed by the highly destructive rain of missiles which went over the massive hill which had protected me pre-patch. The only way I could protect myself was to get under cover (good luck with that in Caustic!) though fighting from under a bridge (I was getting hit even if I was behind buildings) in a close-range mech in River city is pointless...

This is the general opinion over at the Australian Mech Corp also. There were some very peculiar changes made in this most recent patch & the LRM buff is the most problematic of them.

Yeah LRMs are overpowered but personally I find the game far more fun when it descends into a brawl - You guys have to admit there is something satisfying about bonking an AC of an enemy mechs face.

It's really hard to judge the LRM changes right now because we've also got the structure/crit bug.

I've definitely got some suggestions, but I really want to wait for the bug to get worked out before I make any actual judgements.

it gets a bit funny when 1 LRM boat (me) can keep an enemy strike lance at bay;

just fired 1 salvo and then the whole enemy lance rushed for cover and aborted their plans to exit at D4

map - forest colony
enemy strike lance location - mining town (C4) / consisted of an assault mech + heavy or medium...
my location - around E4

Totally agree with the op.

I think there is enough noise from the community that this promblem will get looked in the next patch or maybe even a hotfix.

Until then, time to get my xp on my support cat

We of Ryuken-Ni Sorei have also conducted our own field tests and agree with this conclusion.

1. In particular the lack of impulse makes it difficult to ascertain whether you are taking damage or note apart from the missile incoming notification and your mech condition window.

2. A combination of a dedicated spotter and just 2 LRM specialized mechs are enough to melt enemy units in a matter of seconds. This ability is greatly augmented by the use of TAG/NARC/Artemis.

3. LRMs widely dominate the battlefield making brawling a poor decision - much to the dismay of some our members.

A fix should be in order to relegate LRMs back in a support role and a not weapon that dominates battlefield. I'm not suggesting that it should be weakened back the LRM nerf patch state but to a point where it should still remain a battlefield viable weapon.

ECM however is on the way and was suggested in the "In the Lab" thread that it is quite powerful, perhaps this may justify the change to LRMs with Artemis. If that is the case, then ECM should have been launched with Artemis to provide a ready counter.

Perhaps the developers are just doing some data gathering to see how effective Artemis and LRMs without ECM although these are the observations we've made for now.

I agree.

There is something else I've been seeing with LRMS.

My Internals are taking damage with out my armor being removed. Many times my internals are red but my armor is yellow. The LRMs are also hitting by back armor more than my front. This happens when I'm facing the missile swarm I have had many matches where I've been behind cover and get hit. Not just a 3 story building but the very tall buildings and rock spires in caustic valley.

The flight pathing must be fixed.

I'm glad the missiles climb rather quickly out of the launcher its the return of the 90 degree dive that must be changed. AGAIN.

As a member of ARMD I support the OP's comments. I run an LRM cat, and even though its helping my K/D right now, its too easy to run over an opposition lance with volley after volley of missiles. I suggest keeping the launch arc the same, but fixing the end flight path back to what it was, and allowing support units to think about position rather than stop, lock, shoot, repeat.
I also agree that ECM should have come out with Atremis, and if that meant holding back the issue of the Atremis upgrade, then so be it.

I play a lot as LRM support and can definitely say that the current version of LRMs are just too powerful. It's not because of the Artemis FCS. It's the missile flight path that is making them too effective.
