Yes, for 3 reasons:

A. It will let me see my mechs in all their CryEngine 3 glory.
II. The camera can be positioned in such a way that using it offers no real advantage.
3. It will make all the supernerds who ragequit MW4 flood these forums with their tears.

It will break the game irreversably, no.

I have yet to see a game that does 3rd person that does not give andvantage of first person unless it was literally right behind them to where you could even see anything infront of them, which pretty much make 3rd person for gameplay useless.

Yes, but it can be changed to NOT provide an advantage. I have said this before that you will not need a mech show up unless you mech can draw LOS to it. So if your hiding behind a corner, you will not see the enemy mech coming down the road until it is around said corner, this is if you are alone.

If you have a friend with you or someone else down said street/ally who can spot that mech, you will see it (much like how the targeting system is now).

This means 3rd person would give NO advantage at all as you wont be able to "peek" around a corner like you could in MW4.

The advantages of 3rd person? Seeing your mech in all its glory as it fires/dies in a fight and would even make player made vids even more pretty.

There is still the advantage of being able to see the terrain that you normally wouldn't be able to see. That alone can be the difference between life and death. You cannot make 3rd person have no advantages over first person unless you pretty much make the game look like crap by litteral not rendering half the screen, or bymaking it pointless to use in gameplay.

I checked the spore, it's a troll for sure. But least he didn't mention LRMs so it is almost refreshing.

Nothing says civilized like forgoing intelligent discourse and telling the other party they're wrong, their ideas are stupid, and they should leave.

Considering how often this has been brought up and how everytime it is a resounding NO! Considering that that the OP put zero thought into possible problems... I wouldn't call this an intelligent thread.

That's exactly what my nations of Japan and the united states say. Perhaps ur not familiar with them. On a serious note tho no to third person since piloting a mech was meant to be from the cockpit. If u didn't want that u would play mechassault

I'd prefer TrackIR support. instead of 3rd person view.

You cant see from outside your own body, why should the pilot?

Battlemech /= me – the mech has sensors, view screens, etc

You didn't think very hard for problems then. It provides a larger field of view and allows seeing over and around hills without putting your mech in danger. It would flat out make first person pointless.

Not necessarily – it could easily lack crosshairs or other targeting data for example.

I'm rather surprised no one has provided the link to the Devs' decision on the matter...

Quote

MechWarrior Online is being designed to put you the player in the seat of the pilot. It is 100% first person view only. Being the pilot is one of our key design pillars and 3rd person breaks that pillar on multiple levels as seen in many of the other 3rd Person discussions.

We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.

While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

We get 3rd person cameras the second I get camera seeking missiles.

OTOH, If they did implement it, I wouldn't be too opposed if there was no HUD data. Yea, lore says you should but gameplays say no.

A. 3rd person was always either available to everyone or denied to everyone. Refusing to use it doesn't mean the other guy has an unfair advantage.

II. TT CBT wasn't first person. Any "purists" that claim FFP was "the way the game was meant to be played" are full of crap.

3. In MW4 it was so effective because of the pacing of the game, the way mechs responded to control input, map layout, weapon convergence and weapon ranges. In MWO all those things are very different.

Δ. If nothing else, the feature should be at least tested before making blanket pronouncements. If it causes a dramatic shift in how games play out and there's no way to tweak it, then drop it. But give it a shot before threatening to ask for a refund, cancel your internet, sell your house and move to Canada.

Yes because having a wider field of view to see the landscape you may possibly get caught on is not an advantage. Thus 3rd person becomes the must use.

TT, you didn't control 1 mech. You controlled a group of mechs. It is closer to an RTS (see the mechcommander games) than a shooter

It was an advantage in MW4 because it allowed you to see things that you could in 1st person. The exact same reason it would be an advantage in this game.

What about missile mounted cameras? I actually kind of miss that from MW2, lob some missiles and get a video feed showing what you're hitting. Not really sure it'd be terribly needed here, or otherwise a part of Battletech though seems a logical thing to do in some cases.

I would like some extra views though 3rd person unless the only option does seem to change things if done wrong. Although if we get UAV modules I don't see why one couldn't be some sort of "over the shoulder" drone, just have to make sure it's not useful enough it's the ONLY module after that.
