Sorry Fräulein Zeppelin, but I have to correct you. Jäger (mil.) means Skirmisher (Infantry), not sniper.

Yes, this.

Its also synonymous with light infantry, as that's what Jagers were. By their very skirmisher nature they were marksmen, hence the sniper relationship. They were in fact made up of peasant hunters who had considerable experience with accurate musketfire. All european countries had these sorts of troops. In France they are known as Chasseurs. Their job was to provide accurate long range fire while screening the main line troops and avoiding close combat. The mech has similar characteristics.

I always went with yah-ger since I didn't expect the creators to be aware of the correct German spelling (Jäger) and pronounciation (yaeh-garr).

Aye, it's very much like 'Jägermeister', but you could also call it Jag, like the brits call one of their fine luxury cars. I'm sure they won't mind =)

You're definitely sitting comfy in this one, if you keep your range that is :P

Yeah! Jägermeister is very popular here...

The name comes from: http://en.wikipedia...._%28military%29
That where Light Infantry (skirmishers) deorganizing the enemy frontline.

Its pronounced like YayGer.

I've always understood the pronunciation to be Yae-ger-mech, but in conversation I've tended to say Jae-ger-mech (with a soft Jae, like ja ja gabor).

Probably because in my English accent it sounds too much like "Yay!" germech.

Is it Jager like Mick Jagger, or Jager like in Jagermeister?

I've never seen an umlaut above the "a" so I've been pronouncing it like Mick Jagger.

the right way is:

yay grrrrr mech

My Grandparents used to drink it, like they also drank "Eierlikör" (eggnog <-- sounds cool). Then Jägermeister started their ridiculous advertisement campaign around 7 or 8 years ago, and now it's everywhere, but they didn't change the ugly flavour. For me it will always be a drink for old people with digestion problems. Why are you drinking it?
