Original Gundam came out in 79, Macross (before It became Robotech) was 84 if memory serves, and Robotech was 86.

Yes when I think of the LAMs I think of them as the Varitechs from Macross because of the exact transformation methods involved and honestly while they would be awesome to use I believe for the time being they should just stay as a TT device, should the devs ever advance to include aerospace units as playable then I would like to see LAMs added in, otherwise no thanks besides it will take a few years before someone restarts the project on them canonically if memory serves.

Oh I know Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century the REAL GUNDAM) came out before macross but I mean that all of the gundam series that had transformaming suits (I think zeta was the first one) came out after macross. I think zeta came out before wing for that matter. yeah I'm pretty sure the wing gundam is based off the zeta so technically gundam is ripping itself off...

I don't think there will be any LAMs. They were considered failures during the timeframe we're currently playing in. The Jade Falcons tested a pair with upgraded Clan technology and they still achieved dismal results.

You will not find enough players who will want L.A.M.s

The Jade Falcon testing failed because they used Dual Cockpits. The Pilots refused to yeld to each other. So if the LAM was in Aero mode the Aero pilot refused to convert and let the mech pilot take over and vice versa.

I both love LAMS and don't love them.

Let me explain.

I like transforming fighters as seen in RoboTech and in BattleTech. They're fun, especially for a kid who grew up watching Transformers on TV from the very first episode on Cybertron. I wanted to join them, and along comes RoboTech (although the first episode I saw was the Mospeada/3rd Generation part).

I still love Macross and try to follow along with the current Macross Frontier stuff that is being made.

BattleTech was another great game to play as that same kid, and it used some of the same artwork which was how I got into both. I also played the RoboTech RPG pen-paper with my friends (never played D&D, just sci-fi games from Palladium Books).

However, the lawsuits and such that went with the Unseen of BattleTech has soured the whole thing, plus the "feeling" i get that the head honchos of BattleTech have been trying to eliminate Land-Air Mechs from the game under the simple moto of "they are too silly".

As for Mechwarrior Online, the answer is completely no. No. It can't work with a competitive multiplayer game. I even hate the jets in Battlefield 2 and 3 because they are so poorly done and can't use real air combat techniques (I am a big flight sime guy too).

If anything, I would hope for a proper Macross rip-off game. At least give me a game similar to Halo, but the guys use transforming motorcycles like you saw in RoboTech 3rd generation/Mospeada. That I would love.

But, for now I will keep playing Transformers War for Cybertron and pre-order Fall of Cybertron.

I've always felt that LAM's are the straw that breaks the camel's back in terms of suspension of disbelief.

Walking tanks... sure. They're impractical, but maybe myomers of the future make it feasible, and they -would- have better rough terrain movement.

Walking tanks that turn into jets? *facepalm*

Is it still a ripoff if it has Robotech in the title?

Only a little? They're a direct rip-off of anime, Macross specifically. I did like them. In Macross. Battletechs setting just never really convinced me they had a purpose beyond taking the unoriginal art in its rawest form. There are more recent ones...but they just don't feel right.

Well technically in Macross they were Variable Fighters, or the Valkyrie (VF-1) but Macross was 82. At least the original series.

Zeta was 85 and the first one to have Suits that transformed without coming appart to do it yeah. Wing was a decade later though if you're looking at it like that the Zeta wasn't even the first Suit able to transform, there's a few before it (but in that series). It made more sense in Gundam though, they were large and USUALLY in space or specifically, around space colonies. Which I would agree might make sense for Battletech...if it wasn't 99% planetary.

...Only because it was originally titled Mospeada. Though HG changed Mospeada's story the least oddly...beyond the Mars Base stuff.

I actually do own that game, though for my old PS-2. It wasn't that good, and had a truely horrible HUD. I also have RoboTech Battlecry, which was actually worth playing.

The only good transforming game was War for Cybertron. I cannot praise it enough, and for a good year it was my brother and I's "go-to" game for multiplayer.

LAMs would be a great addition. I dont think its a problem with the coding. Problem a balancing thing.

LAMs have no place in MW, imho. There's a Transformers MMO coming out soon for people who like that genre.

Like them... Yes

Think they belong in MWO... No

To get 20-30 tons of flying metal they would need to be traveling around 200-300 kph just to stay in the air. Crusing speed would probably be closer to 1000 kph Wait till you try to hit a light scout mech traveling at 100 kph and then see if you think it will be hard to hit.

Lams are cool. but have little place on the battlefield even if devs could implament them. can you imagine the repair bill if you accidently ran into a steiner flying atlas scout?

For what it's worth you can add one more LAM fan to the bunch... Sure they can be a pain to use and are probably super expensive to build and maintain (not even mentioning the programming resources required here) but I would still consider it worth every bit if they could be brought in... The tactical advantage alone would be more than worth it.... Maybe not right away, but if this game is going to be a real addition to the MW line then having aerospace fighters, tanks, and perhaps even elemental armor should be considered, as should the LAM line of mechs.

I don't like them. I don't like any manga, mecha, anime, gundam c**p. If i want to see some transforming freaks, i would whatch the three bad Transformers movies. Yeah they have their fans and they were (are) a part of BT, but i always tried to ignore them. Of course it's just my personal opinion.
QuadMechs? Yes pls, every time! LAM's? Never!
