I'm sorry guys, its not a 530s, just a regular 530. So its a regular tower. This is currently whats in it.

Processor: Intel Core Duo E2160 / 2.2 GHz

RAM: DDR2 SDRAM 2.0 GB / 4.0 GB (max)

Video Card: PCI Express x16 - Plug-in card ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB

PSU 300watt

Mainboard: Chipset type Intel G33 Express Data bus speed 800.0 MHz
Like I said, this computer was given to me and I really dont know if any of this stuff is even usable or if I will just need to buy new everything. I have a full 300 bucks to spend so I should be able to make it a decent gaming computer. I might can spend a little more, just depends on how much money I can save this month. Again, sorry for the bad info. I read alot of reviews online of this comp and it looks like alot of people say its no good for playing games. So more than likely I'll just keep the case and build from scratch. Good thing I have 2-3 months to get everything in order. Thanks for the help guys.

You can get by with the case possibly, but the card will have have a fairly low TDP. It might still be prudent to spend the $40 on a proper case, but leave it as a last priority.

That CPU isn't much good, I'm sorry to say. It's an older, low-clocked C2D. It might work in DX11, but again, it might not.

Get a used Q8200 or E8400 if it doesn't.

Let's set the CPU aside for a moment though.

Basically, here's what you're looking at, graphically, assuming no rebates, and the cheapest passable hardware:

PSU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817182202 (the Rosewill green series are pretty good, despite the low price tag and non-brand name)

Video Card: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814161395 (The 6670 only has 480 stream processors; this is vastly better for only a little more)

RAM: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231207 (cheap working set)

You may be running Vista 32-bit, in which case you'll only get ~3GB of useable memory, but that's still a lot better than 2GB. Games alone can use 2GB, and you want to avoid the game ever using the page file, at all costs.

That would come to $193. The 6750 should have a low enough TDP to work inside that case, just watch temps for a little bit (GPU-Z lets you do that). If you upgrade the CPU, I'd also recommend a dual core for TDP reasons if you won't want to upgrade your case. Just get an Intel Penryn chip, it'll be fast enough. But MAKE SURE your motherboard will support it first (we can help there; but it would go faster if you opened the machine and gave us the motherboard model, which will be printed on somewhere)

Can it be upgraded to work, yes.
Will it be pretty, No
Will it be worth the money, No.

I would look to re-use the case if its a regular tower,Hard Drive.

From there i would look at
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813128519
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820104261
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103996
http://www.newegg.co...st=Combo.868010

That came to $395.95 a little bit over your budget, but it brings you into a decent realm of budget game computers, its also easier to upgrade parts than what your currently looking at.

From here i would use the Windows 8 beta for a few months till you can afford to buy a Windows 7 64 bit OEM and then buy another stick of Ram.

In total though it will have set you back $500 in the end so perhaps more than you can afford, but it has a greater path of long term bit by bit upgrades as you and when you can afford it, than trying to drag your dell machine into the new world.

But once again, he has a low profile case. It won't -fit- inside of his case.
-if- he has multiple bracket slots on the back, he could put this inside of it; http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814131448 for the video card.
The PSU; http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817338082
Which brings us up to 210, before the RAM.
Otherwise, you can gut your system and put it in something along the lines of this; http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811148060

He said he has a 530, not the slim version.

If the case is an issue, he can just repace the case. An NZXT gamma will only add $45 to the whole budget

Maybe I'm not the only old veteran with this question. I'm a bit computer retarded I must say and just like everyone else here I'm wanting to play MWO as soon as BETA opens up. I've played every MW game since the first one came out, but havent played since NBT days. The current PC I have is about 3-4 years old and I am not sure if it will be able to run MWO. Its a Dell inspiron -->530s<--. 2.5 gig processor, 2GB sdram (4GB max) The RAM upgrade is pretty cheap (about 30 bucks US.) but I'm not sure about the graphics card, its a Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 Dynamic.Anything you guys can recommend for an old solahma on a budget?

(the s designates the slim model)
But yeah, a NZXT Gamma or that Logiysis case I linked are probably the best budget case options right now that I am aware of.

So he might be okay; it's a tough call

It'll depend on how much a GPU taxes the ventilation (I"m guessing he'll squeeze by, but just barely)

My Laptop has a Intel Core 2 Quad core with 2 gigahertz speed, 4 gigabytes of ram (no idea what type or speed), and an AMD Mobility Radon HD 4650 and I can play BF 3 on mimumue everything at 800 by 600 and still get 30 FPS. And seeing as this card is like 4-5 years old? If you buy anything that is like 58** or 67** for AMD you will be perfectly fine.

BF3 is a funny game, spec-wise. It has a surprisingly narrow range of hardware requirements. Playing on low requires unexpectedly powerful hardware, while playing on high requires not a whole lot more, compared to many games. Desktop-wise, a Radeon HD 5570 is basically the minimum requirement for lower resolution (720Pish?), while a 5870 can run the game at high settings at that same resolution.

I bet a mobile 4650 would actually run MWO alright. It's like the desktop version, since the 4000 series was back in the days when the mobile cards were almost the same speed as the desktop cards.

g33mo2 foxconn is whats on the motherboard. Not too much good about it being said online. Looks like I'll be doing absolutely everything new on this i'll just keep the case and CDROM. It has some disks for windows Vista to be installed on it. OS I dont really care about because this comp is gonna be strictly MWO. Would just taking the side panel off the tower help keep it better cooled than having it on? May be a silly question but it seems like it should. I did hijack my wifes 22 inch monitor off her old work computer and managed to find my old gaming keyboard and mouse stored in the attic. Even found my little Hieneken mini fridge that holds a 12pack that I used to keep beside the computer desk so I wouldnt have to leave a game to go get a beer from the kitchen. I'll be all set as soon as I can get a decent tower! It looks like I've got a couple of months to wait so I guess I'll see what I can save between now and then.

I think Catamount's suggestions are great. I have a little bit of information to add about your motherboard that can be found here: http://en.community....3/19651566.aspx

Basically you can probably use almost all LGA775 CPU chips. I would suggest this from Newegg: Intel Pentium E6600 $79.99 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116347

Together we would have a total cost of around $283.

However, with that budget, we can get newer stuff. Assuming you reuse your case, optical drive and hard drive, you can get:
1) Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6Ghz
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116399
2) MSI H61M-P20 (B3) Intel H61 mATX Motherboard
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813130640
3)Team Elite 4GB (2x2GB)DDR3 RAM
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820313102
4) The roswill power supply catamount suggested
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817182199
5) The graphics card catamount suggested
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814161395

The total will be about $280, about the same as upgrading, much more powerful, and of course new with better future upgrade options.

Don't take the side panel off, dust is not your friend. The PC will be cool enough on its own.

This is a good basic cheap system. Just take out the parts you don't need. The only thing about it is that I would upgrade the recommended video card to the next level up. I would also go with the Intel Quad core.

The more physics a game has (and MWO will have a lot) the more cores the better and the sandy is a cheap over achiever.

Hmm, that's cheaper than I would have expected. I very much like Shepard's suggestion here

Now, a copy of Windows will be required, but that can be put off for awhile by using the Windows 8 beta, and there's some chance of convincing MS to transfer the license from the old Mobo. They say they won't transfer an OEM license, but I got them to activate one of mine on a new machine once over the phone; the guy just asked me if I was using it on the old machine, I told I wasn't, because it was dead and I was basically using some of the parts for the new machine, and he gave me an activation code.

Whether they still are or not, I know MS at least was once more flexible on that than they claim.

You guys are awesome. I still need to save a bit and wait on the game to come out. At least I know that it wont be that hard or expensive to get a decent setup. Maybe I can do better with money in a few months time. Too bad it did not come out last year when I was working and a thousand bucks would have been nothing. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in my brain lungs and sinus last year. After lots of chemo and radiation and surgeries, I'm still here. I think the good lord kept me here to blow stuff up. :D Thanks Shep and Cat.

So this is a hard question... I want to know if this machine can run MWO enough that I will actually be able to play (my laptop just does not cut it). I have very limited information on this system as it was bought dirt cheap used from a corporate computer reseller. I am posting what information I have in the hopes of someone letting me know if the system its self can run the game. I know it will need a ram upgrade (I plan on bumping it from 1gb to 3gb the day I get the computer and then to 4+ as soon as possible). I will also upgrade the video card but would like a cheap video card suggestion. The process is the last piece of the puzzle. Below is the info from the company I bought it and below that is the list of CPU's that were available which limits which CPU it could have down to 2 and more than likely 1. The 2Ghz ** implies 2Ghz Pentium D/Dual-core. The only non-celeron model 2 ghz cpu is a E4400 core 2 duo. Do you think the CPU will run MWO if it is the E4400 core 2 duo?

Oh for frack's sake... thread necromancy is terrible way to get your question answered.

The wolfdale core 2 duos MIGHT play mwo when heavily overclocked. However it won't do well as mwo basically requires a quad core CPU to play.

Seriously, just give up on this rig and build a new one.
