If I want to travel from one end of the galaxy to another, I'll have to wait 2 weeks or more?

Since the game is in real time, I'll have to wait 2 weeks to reach my destination?

This won't happen in the game though because it crosses the realism/fun barrier

This is a game, after all, and the developers want you to participate in the metagame.
Cheers.

And it works just fine, thank you.

Ever played Spaceward ho? probably not. You could have weeks happen in game, and all you would see is the time it took, and play. Of course it was turn base, but each drop is in affect, a turn. A very fun or frustratic turn.

1. The Inner Sphere (roughly 500 ly in diameter) can be crossed in a minimum of 9 jumps (63 days or roughly 2 months).
2. It takes a minimum of 34 jumps (238 days or nearly 8 months) to reach the Clan Homeworlds from Terra.

With standard jumpships it would take about 35 weeks to cross (on average it takes a week to recharge a jumpship).
If you are lucky to have state of the art LF-equipped jumpships it would take half that time, about 16 weeks.
Strana Mechty (the Clan homeworld capital) is about 1800 light years from Terra.

All my calculations were done assuming an average jump-distance of 60 ly. The Clan Homeworlds estimate was made assuming a flat 2,000 ly distance (because it was easier).

It was, for the time, a great game. Just not sure how this relates? If you're inferring that the Devs could go the route of taking weeks of time in transit between planets, they very well could. As I stated, there hasn't been any official word.
They could very well only allow you to fight "mock battles" or simulations in that time period. It seems unlikely however that they would do so. Although i could be wrong.

This is assuming lone wolf status. If you're a merc or house unit you probably don't have much say in where you fight.

Not quite. Jumpships with lithium-fusion batteries aren't twice as fast as regular jump ships. They simply can make two jumps in a row, but will then need twice as long to recharge afterwords. The primary advantage of Li-F batteries is being able to make a second jump right away, not being able to move twice as quickly. Which means that a jump ship that finds itself jumping into an ambush at the nadir jump point will be able to jump out again, or a jumpship pursuing raiders can jump again if it guesses wrong about which star system they're jumping into. They're quick response transports, not fast transports.
Generally, if you want to travel across the Inner Sphere in a hurry, you make a "command circuit," which involves a chain of charged jumpships waiting at each jump point, while the drop ships move from jumpship to jumpship. This is generally considered quite expensive, because it ties up valuable resources and reduces a House's ability to respond quickly. But sometimes, getting assets on site quickly is more valuable than any other factor.
While I had hoped that Mechwarrior Online metagame would include these kind of things, I've long since given up hope on being able to play in a "realistic" Battletech Universe.
edit: darn typos
edit 2: darn freudian slips

If this was done in realtime? Bleh.

yep you guessed it, I was responding to the idea of it being difficult, no mock battles, the only ones that would need time variances acounted for would be those that always stayed on planet, or in system. The rest would be balanced. It is not important either way anyway.
